Polk's Monitor Series has been the gold standard of speakers since the 1970's. This current generation features clear, accurate sound with strong bass and exception aural imaging. Polk made the enclosures out of MDF to be uniform in density and not resonate. They've also included ¾" thick baffles to help produce clear lifelike sound.

The two 5.25" cones are made from a bi-laminate composite for an optimal balance of weight and rigidity. The small driver delivers a wide open sound and exceptional responsiveness. The 1" tweeter is a fabric/polymer composite the responds swiftly to the high efficiency Neodymium magnet. The crossovers between the drivers use Mylar bypass capacitors to let all of the details in the higher frequencies shine through.

No matter how good they sound, they have to look good too. Their contemporary look compliments today's flat panel televisions and modern decorating styles. They're magnetically shielded so you can place them near your electronics. The slim design takes up less than one square foot.

  • newegg Slim Design The Polk Audio Monitor 50 features a slim, elegant design for a perfect match with your flat-panel TV, plasma monitors and other thin-line home cinema components.
  • newegg Exceptional Sound Quality The Polk Audio Monitor 50 boasts dual 5.25" Bi-Laminate composite dynamic balance drivers and a 1" dynamic balance silk/polymer composite dome tweeter to deliver crisp highs and accurate lows for an immersive listening experience.
  • newegg Magnetically Shielded The magnetically-shielded Polk Audio Monitor 50 can be put at any proximity to display devices such as TVs and LCD monitors without loss of sound quality caused by interference.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat speakers

Pros: Clear highs mids and good bass. I can feel the floor vibrate during movies now! The height of the speakers put the movie dialog right at ear level, much better than a bookshelf way up high.

Cons: One speaker was dented on back corner while box was undamaged, it had to happen at the Polk factory :( Would like to take 1/2 an egg for that but the damage is unseen. Push the bass too far and the need for a sub is apparent, could be my old Sony htib receiver though. The feet are removable - they are very ugly.

Other Thoughts: I was using 10 yr old KLH bookshelf speakers and what a pleasant surprise!

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice addition

Pros: Small footprint
Crisp sound
Nice bass and mid level

Cons: High center of balance (my cat knocked one over already)

Other Thoughts: Very nice entry level speakers. If you are looking for a ton of bass then you will want a sub, I like bass but these are very sufficient for now, more bass than you might think. May add a sub down the road when I add the surrounds.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value

Pros: Clear sound, these speakers seem very efficient.

Cons: I don't care for the silver front fascia, but no problem if I leave the grilles on.

Other Thoughts: I bought these as an upgrade for my PC speakers (yes, overkill). They sound fantastic for what I paid, and considering that they are entry-level. They really should be paired with a powered sub, but I've been using them w/o, attached to my PC and I can't complain much.

5 out of 5 eggsA great value

Pros: These are very efficient speakers and I am quite pleased with the soundstage they create and their range and clarity. Don't assume you need a sub with these until you have them installed and have given them a listen. They do deceptively well on the low end depending on positioning. Mine were abit boomy but after breaking in they are surprising smooth for a speaker in this price range.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I don't understand complaints about the posts on Polk speakers. You connect them, and then forget them, and 14 gauge wire is going to be adequate for any 8 ohm application in your average sized room with runs of 45 feet or less.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good for the price

Pros: More than enough bass for my taste. I don't understand people who suggest to add the sub-woofer. I had to lower the bass frequencies a little bit for the walls not to vibrate in my apartment. I using these in connection with cheap Sony AV receiver and CD Player. Speakers are stable even on the deep carpet, because of additional rubber feet. Previous speakers I owned were easily overturned by my cat all the time. Cat also gets on the top of these, but was still unable to push them down.

Cons: For the price paid I couldn't really find any cons. I wasn't expecting anything super hi-end from this pair, but I cannot complain about the quality of sound.

5 out of 5 eggsReally Impressed

Pros: The size. It is amazing. They are slim and can fit in pretty tight spaces. The sound is amazing and clear. They make my other speakers that I have had sound muddy and not as accurate. I have it paired with the PSW-505, it is absolutely amazing. They have rubber like surrounds and the tweeter is actual cloth. The cabinet is gorgeous. The cherry is such a great color. I'd opt for this over the black. Power handling is good as well. They don't max out as easy. Produce great sound for their size. Bass is more defined than expected. The port hole is HUGE...lots of air movement.

Cons: The bindings posts seem kind of cheap. Not a big deal. The do what they do. I only got one. UPS left the other at thier facility. Very upsetting mistake. Contacted UPS they said I have to wait another day to listen to the brilliant sound that these produce. The grill is hard to remove and put back on. Plastic feet are spikes. They wobble on rugs and "bounce" on hardwood floors.

Other Thoughts: I'd register them for warranty as soon as you can. As with any speaker...they could become a bad egg. 5 year Warranty that's worth taking the time to resister.
I may upload a video review after break in period.
All in all. A bit better than the 40s...not a noticeable difference between these and that 60s...if you have the money though; I would pick up a pair of the 70s instead.
All in all. for the currant price of about 200 for a pair. Definatley get these you will NOT be disappointed.

5 out of 5 eggssimply great speakers....

Pros: great looks!!!! great sounds.......!!!!.....great price...... great other words....stop looking and buy a pair or more already..........i use these strictly for music since they are hooked up to my imac.....using a yamaha v365 that i got the other day from newegg.....great deal...stop reading and buy while you can......

Cons: the only con i have is that these speakers dont make me rich ..but what the hell....

Other Thoughts: I had these for about a year and they were just decorations for my room...but finally I got to hook these babies up.....if your setup is simple nothing too wild these would fit your needs just fine.....and come on $99 and free shipping.....nothing beats that "blazin deal"......seriously stop reading and buy......i feel like I am stealing from newegg since these are indeed quality speakers.......thanks newegg you are the best.....keep up the fantastic job....

5 out of 5 eggsextremely good...but not on it's own

Pros: very good sound quality, easy hookup, and they can be pushed for loudness if need be. they're perfect for a home theater system. highly recommended

Cons: they do everything they say they do....but the sound comes out so much better if you have a subwoofer to go with them (just like everything does :P)
so they're not meant for a substantial amount of bass on their own. they just cover the perfect highs and mids

Other Thoughts: like i said, get a sub for them if you don't already have one. it'll make your overall sound system sound so much more balanced than having them alone.
i got two of them, and i'm possibly considering getting another two :P

5 out of 5 eggsNot bad for the price.

Pros: So lets get one thing straight, these speakers are cheap. They don't look cheap, and they don't sound cheap. However these are definitely not the most powerful setup by a long shot. Quality is what you would expect for a 100 dollar per speaker setup, good enough. It even makes 2 way easy by having two separate connectors per speaker.

Cons: For this price, I really have nothing bad to say, other then the fact that they are not all that powerful.
