Polk's Monitor Series has been the gold standard of speakers since the 1970's. This current generation features clear, accurate sound with strong bass and exception aural imaging. Polk made the enclosures out of MDF to be uniform in density and not resonate. They've also included ¾" thick baffles to help produce clear lifelike sound.

The four 6.5" cones are made from a bi-laminate composite for an optimal balance of weight and rigidity. They are split two and two for subwoofer and mid/woofer reproduction duties. A Cascade Tapered Array design maximizes bass response along with precise midrange reproduction. The 1" tweeter is a fabric/polymer composite the responds swiftly to the high efficiency Neodymium magnet. The crossovers between the drivers use Mylar bypass capacitors to let all of the details in the higher frequencies shine through.

No matter how good they sound, they have to look good too. Their contemporary look compliments today's flat panel televisions and modern decorating styles. They're magnetically shielded so you can place them near your electronics. The slim design takes up less than one square foot.

  • newegg Slim Design The Polk Audio Monitor 70 features a slim, elegant design for a perfect match with your flat-panel TV, plasma monitors and other thin-line home cinema components.
  • newegg Exceptional Sound Quality The Polk Audio Monitor 70 boasts four 6.5" Bi-Laminate composite dynamic balance drivers and a 1" dynamic balance silk/polymer composite dome tweeter to deliver crisp highs, detailed mids and accurate lows even at high power levels, ideal for home theater applications.
  • newegg Magnetically Shielded The magnetically-shielded Polk Audio Monitor 70 can be put at any proximity to display devices such as TVs and LCD monitors without loss of sound quality caused by interference.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Covers

Pros: Without echoing every other positive comment I will just add that the covers on these speakers are solid and snap solidly into place. I have a few young children and this is peace of mind that the covers are not easy to remove. Speaker domes attract children for some reason. Having these out of sight is a good thing.

5 out of 5 eggsYou will not regret it

Pros: Awesome sound, paired up with my denon 3805,psw10 sub and in wall side and back for 7.1ch. rented step up 3 which is dts 7.1 and wow amazing! Concerts unbelievable. Good thing i ordered these and not the moniter 60's from reviews there. Also got the cs2 for center which is nice and loud, matches perfect to the 70's.

Cons: They are huge. could be a good thing though.

Other Thoughts: Wait for the sale, i paid 170 when some people paid 150. I do all my shopping at newegg now!!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome with warnings

Pros: Amazing speakers. Great range, perfect sound.

Cons: Need a LOT of juice. See below.

Other Thoughts: These are amazing speakers that sound great and have a terrific range. Here's my warning though. I bought these owning a HK 40 watt per channel receiver. For kicks I plugged them into it and the speakers predictably sounded terrible. Very muddy, no distinction between highs and lows. I pulled them out and plugged them were I'd planned all along, a sony with 100w per channel. They sounded just slightly better but still terrible. I got online and ordered an HK 354 75w per channel with the ability to re-route into 2 channel at 120w per channel. When it arrived I plugged them in as a surround system at 75w per channel and they sounded awful. I hoped HK's non-processed sound would be enough at 75w. It wasn't even close. So I finally set them at the 2 channel setting and...heaven. Some of the best I've ever heard. My warning is obvious: If you're thinking about buying these, make sure you've got power to spare.

5 out of 5 eggsSounds awesome

Pros: Crank it up and you don't hear any distortion. The tweets will actually start hurting your ears before you get to maximum volume and there still won't be any distortion. The bass is present but obviously you won't be hearing the low bass that only a sub could reproduce but you will hear the bass just not the deepness in it.

Cons: Size. My living room is odd shaped and its more like a hall way. These speakers jet out of the wall almost as far as my entertainment center.

Other Thoughts: Outstanding speakers. Take the covers off if you want to impress or leave them on to just enjoy the sound.

5 out of 5 eggsDo not miss these!

Pros: To start, no UPS box issues that several have mentions.

Now... When I first opened these out of the box my reaction was, this is a fantastic looking speaker! After hooking them up to a higher level sound source of 110w/ch (people, please use a high quality receiver or risk damaging these babies) I was immediately blown away by the quality of sound they produced. After using them for about two weeks I was once again impressed by how much better the quality was getting after being worn in. I pared these up with a CS2 at center and loved them so much I just bought another pair today to run them in 5.1

Cons: - Requires a quality power source (if that's a con, why are you looking at these? ;) )

- If you are married, your wife will be very mad at you for taking up so much space. ++ If you are single, they do wonders for wooing the women in your bachelor pad

Other Thoughts: Just make sure you are using a good receiver.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat deal.

Pros: Less than $300 shipped for a pair. Wow! Very well built and sound very good. Best Speaker in the world, for the money, at the price I paid. Plenty of bass and mids out of this box.

Cons: Nary.

Other Thoughts: Wish I had waited till the cherry went on sale for just a few dollars more.

5 out of 5 eggsFine speakers

Pros: Newegg's insanely low price. Awesome sound reproduction. Excellent integration with the rest of the Polk Monitor line. Sometimes when a phone rings in the movie, I reach for it now. I can nowlisten to music in the original stereo format with full range sound. "Yes Live at Montreux 2003" was a treat. Rick Wakeman couldn't make a sound they couldn't reproduce well.

Cons: UPS was hard on the boxes as others have noted but they did survive without a scratch. The style is dated.

Other Thoughts: I had Monitor 60s as my fronts in a 7.1 system and they were accurate high mids & up but really couldn't reproduce the low mids & down very well. I moved them to my side surrounds and bought the Monitor 70s as my fronts and I couldn't be happier after about 20 hours break in time.

When I ran the automatic sound balancing routine in my Onkyo, it reduced the maximum volume available dramatically. I had to manually bump it back up among other tweaks.

Receiver: Onkyo TX SR606
Fronts: Polk Monitor 70s
Sides: Polk Monitor 60's
Center: Polk CS2
Rear: Polk Monitor 40s
Sub: Sony SA-WM500 250W 12" sub

4 out of 5 eggsHuge but Nice

Pros: Sound great, especially for music. Music always seems to sound better than movies and the music in movies sounds great too. I purchased these to replace some old JBL bookshelf speakers that I had been using for 10 years in my home theater. Watched the Imax movie Oceans on them with my HD TV and Denon receiver in blu ray. Sounded amazing.

Cons: Huge, make sure to measure them before buying. I had to rearrange my home theater to fit them but now they look and sound great next to my DLP.

Other Thoughts: Make sure to get the CS2 center channel to go with them. Im waiting for it to go on sale for 99 instead of 120. Got these for 150 on sale.
