Polk Audio Round, In-Ceiling Speaker with a 6 1/2-Inch Driver
You're about to install some inset lighting into your theater room or living room. Maybe add a dimmer. Take a moment and think about this first: You can add some "insets," and install a few RC60i in-ceiling loudspeakers, and no one will even notice! That's because, on first glance, painted to match your decor, RC60i speakers match the look and spacial effects of inset lighting. So on the one hand, you'll have plenty of light from the insets you're installing. And on the other hand, you'll have plenty of great sound from the RC60i speakers you dropped right in at the same time! Hooray DIY!

In-Ceiling Audiophile Magic

RC60i's round profile looks just like a lighting fixture so it will blend into your ceiling without calling attention to itself. But they sound sooooo much better than your typical in-ceiling speakers that resemble a watering spout.

RC60i Features:

  • Easy one-cut, drop-in installation puts built-in audio within reach, with Perfect Fit templates, a precision flange, and (available) pre-construction brackets; achieve secure, vibration-free efficiency with a simple turn of the patented Rotating Cam system.
  • With infinite baffle tuning, RCi speakers utilize the "virtual enclosure" of your in-wall and in-ceiling space to enhance their bass response and smooth low frequency blending with the midrange.
  • Lightweight and stiff blue polymer cones deliver excellent damping and bass response.
  • Durable, computer-modeled, injection-molded butyl rubber surrounds suppress unwanted cone resonances for a lifetime of reliable sound.
  • Aimable swivel tweeters for greater accuracy and more realistic imaging. (All models except RC6s.)
  • Polk's proprietary, patented Dynamic Balance® technology allows our engineers to design out distortion-causing driver and system resonances, so you only hear the good sounds.
  • Klipple motor optimization uses laser measurement technology to ensure a smooth excursion path at either end of the volume spectrum for uniform performance at both low and high volumes.
  • Rustproof stainless steel hardware, durable butyl rubber surrounds and powder coated aluminum (in-ceiling) & painted steel (in-wall) grilles make RCi Series speakers suitable for high moisture areas like bathrooms, transitional spaces or even under eaves or in the ceiling of an enclosed porch. (RCi series are not suitable for exposed outdoor use. For outdoor speaker fun, use our Atrium® Series.)
  • Paintable grilles let you build them in, and then forget all about them; RCi Series speakers practically disappear into any room.
  • RCi Series speakers are timbre-matched to other Polk speakers to insure utterly seamless blending from speaker to speaker in systems that combine traditional and built-in speakers.
  • All Polk products are made using the best materials and the most advanced manufacturing techniques. They pass the industry's most exhaustive quality tests, including drop testing, extreme signal response and UV & salt exposure testing. Polk loudspeakers are built to perform for a lifetime.

5 out of 5 eggsQuality

Pros: Clear articulate sound. As rear surround speakers, these speakers perfectly compliment
2 Polk 40's, a CS 10and PSW 505 on a Pioneer 5.1. Some shows mix there surround sound brilliantly. Have you seen Justified?

Cons: Not really a con. Slightly inefficient. I have had to boost each by 4db.

Other Thoughts: Removed builders installed speakers from my new home. Wow. What a difference.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good for the price

Pros: price

Cons: dry wall clamps are a little cheap

Other Thoughts: boxed up a pair for outdoor speakers. For the price, sound way better that an official in/out door speaker. Lows are pretty good for an outdoor speaker (what I'm using them as).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for rear/surround

Pros: I just installed 2 of these in my living room for back/surround speakers they sound great for music and movies alike I was a little afraid they would get lost with my promonitor 70 fronts and 25c center but they fit in very well not a ton of bass however I wasn't expecting a lot from them these are not meant to blow your ear drums out in my opinion they are for surround and presence however in the ceiling between my 1st and 2nd floor they do have some kick I did not add insulation around them at this point as others have done. I did not have any issues with the grill as others have.

Cons: I hate patching holes in the wall after snaking wires, not really the speakers fault. I do feel that the wire connectors could be a bit tighter I used 14ga wire and it was popping out of the connector because it was so stiff.

Other Thoughts: Great addition to my setup!

4 out of 5 eggsGood quality, GREAT looks

Pros: Clean look, paintable grill, targeted tweeter "aiming" - great mids and highs, built in crossovers

Cons: Plastic retaining tabs could be better - they bend a lot making me wonder if they'll hold over the long term.

Other Thoughts: Maybe its due to the fact that I don't have a subwoofer in the room but bass response is limited at best. But... what the hay - they're six inch speakers!

4 out of 5 eggsI POLKed some holes in my wall!

Pros: OK sounding speakers for the price. Very nice mounting method for drywall.

Cons: High frequencies not as pronounced as I would expect.

Other Thoughts: Makes a nice addition to get music in my kitchen without having extra equipment standing around. Clean install and decent sound. High freqs not as pronounced as I'd like, but then again I guess I am spoiled with M70s in the tv room.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Wow, these things sound a heck of a lot better than I thought they would. The tweeters can be angled to provide the separation you want, and the mids are pretty clear. Bass is okay for 6.5" speakers - I'm happy. They also install quite easily, and if you need to pull them out for some reason that's easy enough as well (hint: use a paperclip to remove the grill).

Cons: While they say they use the wall as a "virtual enclosure," don't believe it's going to sound like a sub - their bass response is decent but it's still a set of 6.5" speakers. Comparable to a good car system (without a sub).

If I had to nit pick, the plastic legs that are used to secure the speaker in place could be a little more robust, but just the same they didn't break on me. Also, a lower profile design might be useful for some users (I didn't have a problem installing them in my dropped ceiling).

Other Thoughts: Works fine as a ceiling install. If you want really big bass sound, get an in-wall sub or similar - but try these out first as they're pretty effective just the same. I gave them 5 stars because I got something that sounds better than I expected!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: Clean sound, easy to install, works great for surrounds

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: I purchased four of these for the side and rear surrounds on my 7.1 setup. When I play music, I use whole room stereo, and they sound great. If they were your only speakers, you'd probably want something deeper with a bit more punch, but if you are using them for second zone music or surrounds, they are ideal. I debated about going up a size, but these really are great for my installation. Tweeters are easy to position.
