5 out of 5 eggsA True Audiophile Speaker

Pros: Wow, I’m really happy with my purchase. These speakers are worth every nickel I spent. I’ve owned the Polk Monitor 70’s for a couple years now and believe the 70’s are a great value but even though I tried bi-amping them and powering them with a dedicated XPA-2 amp, I could never get the mids and lows to sound natural without raising the volume to an uncomfortable level and then the highs would sound too harsh. Vocals always sounded relatively subdued unless I enabled my CS10 center speaker in 7 channel stereo. The Monitor 70’s also required the use of a powered subwoofer which always had to be adjusted every time I switched from one type of music to another.
Enter the RTi A9’s. Using my Yamaha RX-A2000 as a "fronts" preamp for the XPA-2 amplifier to feed these beasts is two channel musical heaven. I can now listen to music at a full 15db lower volume and hear every nuance, whether it’s a barely perceivable cymbal strike, a crack in the singers voice or a series of deep bass guitar notes. No subwoofer needed…no lie.
Great recordings sound awesome! To test vocals I listened to Nora Jones’ Come Away With Me and Rufus Wainwright’s Hallelujah. For percussion it was Talking Heads’ Papa Legba and The Judds’ Water of Love.
The kick-rear bass was proven with New Orders’ Blue Monday, Sublime’s April 29th, 1992 and Harold Faltermeyer’s Axel F. Music that is poorly recorded or heavily compressed sounds so much better too. Amazing! These are truly outstanding speakers. Hats off to the folks at Polk Audio.

Cons: None so far. Did I mention the vernier wood finish and how beautiful and glossy it is?

Other Thoughts: Thanks to Newegg also for shipping these Fedex so they didn’t get pulverized by the rough handling perpetrated so often by that other ground carrier. They arrived undamaged.

4 out of 5 eggsRti A9

Pros: Great sounding speakers across the spectrum!
Beautiful design.

Cons: Heavy. If that's a con.

Other Thoughts: One of the speakers came with the bass port that fell off or had been knocked off. Other than that great speaker. Shipping took about 1 week to my door and for 399.00 each you really can't complain.

5 out of 5 eggsUPDATED REVIEW

Pros: Good investment, Great for home theater, Great for music, Easy to drive, Very attractive, When driven properly has thundering bass, Articulate, Crisp, Detailed

Cons: A little harsh, or bright during break in.

Other Thoughts: If anyone tells you these speakers don't do music well, then maybe their expectations are worth $100,000.00

I drive my A9's with an Emotiva XPA-2, 300wpc. I can crank these things til I can't stand it, no distortion.

As they break in, these speakers really deliver the quality audio I hoped they would. Mine are towed in just past the listening point, almost 9' apart and just over 2' from the wall.

During movies, if I take my sub out and set the 9's to full, LFE can be felt in the floor and in the chest, they hold no candle to my Epik Empire but they can punch out the bass.

For music, I use them for 2ch listening only, no other speakers and no sub. The detail in the 9's are incredible. If you watch, it looks and sounds like the vocals are coming from the center channel. If I close my eyes, the detail provides an illusion of 5 speakers playing at once, the sound actually places the instruments right in front of and to the sides of you.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with these 9's.

5 out of 5 eggsRTiA9, Awesome Speaker

Pros: Beautiful piece of furniture, optional carpet spikes, handles plenty of power, great detail right out of the box

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Advisable to feed these with plenty of power. I have an Onk 807 but in my 7.1 set up would not be enough power to do justice. I have an XPA-3 that feeds 200wpc and they sound great. I'm thinking of getting even more power to these speakers as they break in. For 2ch listening, I take out the sub and set these to "large" and they sound great, for H.T. I put the sub back in and set speakers to small. I've only had these speakers for a short time but I see them as my last upgrade for years to come.

5 out of 5 eggsStop wasting your time looking around and buy these...

Pros: A very musical speaker; could possibly be the last tower speakers you’ll ever buy. The sound is very neutral and consistent from top to bottom. The bass is accurate and natural, but has the ability to take charge for more demanding audio tracks, and can go down to 20 hz quite comfortably. The Cherry Finish is beautiful and will blend well with other shades of wood. For the quality of product, the price is very reasonable, though Newegg does occasionally kick them back a couple of hundred dollars.

Cons: Will sound very bright if under-powered. Moving them around can be awkward because of the shape and size of the cabinets, so save yourself the trouble and get someone to help you move them...use gloves.

Other Thoughts: The RTi A9’s are very capable speakers; however you should give just as much consideration to your other equipment. NO commercially-available receiver will do these towers justice because they have so many drivers. I originally bi-amped them with a TX-NR906 (~290 watts/channel), and while the sound was decent, it was obvious that it could not fully control the entire range of the speaker in addition to the demands of the other C/R/S speakers. Spending your money on good quality amplifiers (such as a pair of XPA-1’s) will give you the best possible results with your receiver because it will take the load off of the C/R/S channels, though you’ll eventually want to move to a dedicated preamp or processor with amplifiers for the other speakers.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Speakers

Pros: I bought these speakers on another site. After Listening for a week I can tell you these speakers are AWESOME. The highs and midtones are clear and precise and the bass response is deep and clean. Im using it in a 2.0 stereo set up with a yamaha rx-v995 receiver. This is definitely the best Set Up i've ever owned. For the price I'm willing to say these are some of the best speakers you can buy. If you can find them lower than the retail price, GO FOR IT!! you won't regret it.

Cons: HEAVY! but that's not so bad. probably a good thing!

Other Thoughts: I want to find an amplifier to see if I can get even better sound.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat speakers

Pros: Great speakers in their price range if you provide enough power. They were ok until I bought two power amplifiers. After that they just sound great plus apparently break in period is large then 100 hours because they add more color to the sound just now(probably after hundreds of hours of listening).

Cons: Need a lot of power to sound right. High frequency is soft but I would prefer crispier sound sometimes. I guess I cannot complain at this price level - got new ones for $500 from tweeters when they were going out of business.

Other Thoughts: If you want to buy these speakers buy also stand alone amplifiers - this will make a huge difference. Be patient to let these speakers to break in.
