The name “Monitor” is special to Polk Audio. The original Polk Audio Monitor Series, produced in the mid-1970s, ushered in the modern loudspeaker era by setting the standard for performance and value. The original Monitor Series is the line that made Polk Audio famous with its simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging—all at a price that made great sound available to everyone. The newly reborn Monitor Series II is classic Polk: a quality-built, affordable line of high performance loudspeakers for music and home theater. They are highly efficient, so they can be driven easily by unpretentious receivers and they are voice matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish contemporary look, with vinyl veneer finishes, modern dark grey faces, and bold stabilizer feet on the tower models. Built for speed, sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound.

  • newegg Slim, High Efficiency Design The Polk Audio Monitor50C features a slim tower design with a footprint of less than one square foot to fit your flat-panel TV, plasma monitors and other thin-line home cinema components. High efficiency design allows the Monitor50C to reveal the classic Polk Audio sound (open, spacious and clear) even when driven by modestly-powered amplifiers and receivers. Bold, fat stabilizer feet ensure stability on carpet or hard floors for more precise bass response and superior imaging.
  • newegg Exceptional Sound Quality The Polk Audio Monitor50C boasts two 5.25" Bi-Laminate composite dynamic balance drivers stiff with good damping for high efficiency, excellent bass and midrange clarity with lower distortion. And a 1-inch Fabric/Polymer Composite Dynamic Balance Dome Tweeter with powerful Neodymium magnet structure delivers clear and detailed high frequency response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments.
  • newegg Enhanced Features The Polk Audio Monitor50C features small-diameter driver design that delivers wide dispersion, better mid-range and more detailed bass response for an open, “box-less,” three-dimensional sound. Non-resonant all-MDF enclosure construction with ¾"-thick baffles ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality. Crossovers use Mylar bypass capacitors for more detailed high frequencies. Critically Tuned Flared Port minimizes port noise (“chuffing”) for good low frequency extension with low distortion, resulting in natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.
  • newegg Magnetically Shielded The magnetically-shielded Polk Audio Monitor50C can be put at any proximity to display devices such as TVs and LCD monitors without loss of sound quality caused by interference.

5 out of 5 eggsWow! Beautiful sound @!@

Pros: Beautiful clean and loud sound. If it is on sale, it is a steal, really! well made and beautiful cherry wood finished.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Powered by my 10 yrs old Denon AVR 2802 (love it, Denon is the best), sub is Polk PSW110 all cherry. Polk is poor man Rolls Royce to me, it is affordable and sound really good. Good quality products. My whole system sound like high end system and look like high end system too. It just blown away Bose and any $500 under soundbar.

5 out of 5 eggsReal Nice Sound !

Pros: Not to big
Sound great
Nice finish

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: Last year this Time I had bought a pair of Sony SS-F7000 speakers to replace some smaller Sony speakers. Big Mistake ! After that I upgraded to a Yamaha RX-V471 Receiver because the sound still wasn't there. I blamed it on the old Pioneer receiver I had. Since last year all I been doing is messing with settings on the receiver trying to get it to sound right. It got to the point I just quit listening to the system cause the sound was more irritating than anything. Been looking into the Polk Speakers and found a great deal on Newegg for the Monitor 50 series 2. Thought about the 60's or 70's but really wanted to keep the size down to as small as possible. The speakers came early this morning, I hooked them up, ran the setup for my receiver, and PERFECT ! I have not shut the stereo off with the TV the last 4 hours. The sound is real clear, clean, and pleasing. No more messing with settings cause this station don't sound right, or the radio don't sound right. I also have a Pioneer 8' sub and it matches great. For the heck of it I turned the sub off and set the fronts to large. The speakers actually still sounded really good. Thank you Newegg for the great deal of $74 each free shipping. Don't know how you do it, but I can't believe I got such a great sound for the price. These speakers sound great with the TV on, radio, and all music sources. I actually have a 3.1 system since my living room is not ideal for 5.1. My TV sits off to the side on an angle, and I can only place the speakers close to the TV on each side about 6 ft. apart. Not the ideal "triangle" they recommend for speaker placement, but I'm very impressed with the "separation" and "imaging" these speakers have. And to think I almost got rid of another receiver for nothing. All because I made a bad decision last year buying the Sony's. Thank You again Newegg, this was the best $150 I ever spent.

5 out of 5 eggsPolk M-50 Loudspeaker

Pros: Being an over the top audiophile, I have spent far too much money on Jeff Rowland, Aerial, Wilson Audio, Mark Levinson, etc!! Don't get me wrong, it's wonderful equipment, however to enjoy audio, you just DON'T have to spend the big bucks, and I have spent the big bucks. I have a good friend that just wanted a modest audio system, smaller receiver and nice speakers. I went out on a limb and found two pair of Polk M-50, series II loudspeakers, not expecting much, and I was so surprised. Many people on this site talk about the M-60 and especially the M-70, both great speakers, but just not necessary, as all the M series are lacking in the very bottom end of the audio spectrum. So, what to do, DO WHAT I DID! Forget about the multiple drivers in the M-60 or M-70, unless you just want a larger speaker. I bought the M-50, with the smaller drivers, smaller footprint, and they can be bought for $75.00 to $120.00, a good deal in that range. The construction is wonderful, sure your not getting Sontos Rosewood, but who cares, we are saving money here, and the sound of the M-50 is wonderful, crisp, great high end extension, and I am comparing to aerial 10Ts, Aerial 20Ts, which I have both. YOU MUST, HOWEVER, HAVE A SUB WOOFER, YOU MUST, NO TWO WAYS ABOUT IT, however, you have to have a good powered sub with the M-60 or M-70 as well, so why waste money on more low frequency drivers that just will not do what a quality sub will do. I use subs with my $8,000.00 speakers as well, so, whatever speaker you buy from $75.00 to $8,000.00, you just need a sub woofer to extend the low end. I took a $75.00 Polk M-50, coupled it with a good 250 watt powered sub woofer and the results are astounding. Here is another key factor many people are not addressing. With MANY people, like myself, storing music files on external 1-3 TB hard drives, in my case I-Tunes in the AIFF format, I downloaded Media Center Juke Box, and it's FREE, FREE, FREE, and has a wonderful equalizer and best of all, digital delay, and concert hall settings which can be very subtle or very pronounced, however you wish to set them. With careful listening and tweeking, I was totally and completely amazed at how I got a pair of Polk M-50 loudspeakers and a quality sub woofer to come reasonably close to systems costing thousands of dollars, so, in summary, download Media Center Jukebox, use the audio functions to your advantage, don't spend more money on one or two more low frequency drivers that STILL require a sub woofer anyway, get the Polk M-50s while you still can, buy your powered sub, tweek it with Media Center Juke box, and really enjoy the music! Cheers

Cons: There is simply no downside to this little wonderful speakers.

Other Thoughts: Buy these speakers, they go for as little as $75.00 each, but do NOT let a price tag of $125.00 stop you, they are well worth it! A bookshelf speaker sells for much more than this, just don't forget to purchase the powered sub woofer, and you will be a very happy camper indeed!! I guarantee it!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome upgrade

Pros: Looks amazing, takes up less room than other budget floor standing speakers, decidedly un budget like sound, eyebrow lifting value.

Cons: Took a little time to loosen up..

Other Thoughts: Well last week my 9 year old Denon AVR 485 blew up on me so I decided to buy a new budget amp and went for the Yamaha RX-V373 (purchased from Newegg and terrific amp). Anyhow after setting up the new amp it was obvious that my 9 year old Advent Newvision 5.1 speakers were the week link in my home theater. I visited a local store and listened to a few setups that cost from $800-2000 and really was not impressed, I did however get to hear a few Polk Audio sub woofers that impressed me and for the price I purchased a Polk PSW 10 for $99 and after this there was no turning back. I added the CS1 center and Monitor 50's for the front and Monitor 30's for the back. WOW, first of all, Newegg delivered in 24 hours (advantage of living close to their distribution center) and Newegg had the very best prices. $69 for a center speaker, come on. $79 for a floor standing Monitor 50!! And $69 for a pair of Monitor 30 providing surround sound!!! I immediately threw on my Tru Blood DVD's and was blown away, I then played a few hours of the Walking Dead and finally followed up with the Battlestar Galactica mini series. Awesome. The speakers sounded a little bright for the first 20 hours or so but have loosened up. The sound stage is unbelievable, the sub does not overwhelm the center speaker and the surround effects are amazing. Obviously I am unable to attribute the sound on speakers alone, the amp is a key ingredient, however the speakers look unbelievable in cherry finish and sound fantastic. I am not an audiophile by any means, just a regular Joe who likes watching movies at home. I do not have the budget of the true audiophile and was reluctant to spend a huge amount of money on home theater upgrades. The cost for my 5.1 surround upgrade was ridiculously cheap and the quality of sound just blows me away, I have a huge grin on my face now every time I sit down to watch the TV, even if it is depressing news! $395 for 5.1 speakers!!! $249 for the Yamaha amp. Come on!!! Win Win situation... I looked at the Energy Take Classic 5.1 which retailed at $399 but I am so happy I went this route instead.

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely great for the price!

Pros: Value! These are nice speakers for the price. The last set of Polks I bought cost much more and these are comparable in sound and build quality.

Cons: The plasic pointed feet tend to vibrate a bit on the wood floor at higher volume levels. Should be an easy solution.

Other Thoughts: I replaced a set of Polk RT400's with these and I had always been satisfied with them and a 12 inch powered sub. My ears prefer the Monitor50's to the RT400's in the mid and high frequencies. I have them paired with a PSW10 sub and it does a decent job picking up where they leave off. For the money, they are a nice buy.

5 out of 5 eggsPolk = Great Speakers

Pros: Great speakers for very little dough.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: At first got a pair of Polk Tsi200's for my office Hi-Fi, which sounded great. I then saw the Monitor50's on sale and snapped them up for Home theater duty in my bedroom. After testing them out on my office Hi-Fi, they replaced my Tsi200's as the fronts, and I moved the Tsi's to the rear, making a 4-speaker setup, using the A+B option on my Yamaha. I then bought a second set of Monitor50's for my home theater, as it was the last day of the sale. The Monitor50's sound really good. Better than my more expensive Tsi's, I would say. Crisper highs. Also, they fill the mid's really nice, due to their larger size & bigger port. Better than the Tsi's ever could. You will still need a good sub to round out the low end. I bought the PSW505, and the combo sounds great. I really like the color combo. I got the cherry, and the black face really sets it off. Very stealthy. They look nice with the grills off, like a piece of artwork. Thanks Polk & Newegg!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the money

Pros: Amazing for the price. yes, of course there are better speakers out there, but honestly, for the money they really do impress me. I love having a good home theater setup, but dont have the thousands of dollars it would take to build the perfect setup. This is the next best thing for me. I now have 4 of these (one set about 1 year old, the other set brand new) as left/right/front/back and a Polk 10" sub and Polk Center. All fit the same rating from me. Great for the money. Once they break in, you should be very happy with them. If not, get ready to spend 3-4 times as much for a noticeable difference.

Cons: First set was bought about 14 months ago, they have been perfect so far, but bought this second set a few days ago, and the housing was falling apart on one speaker when I took it out box (which was in perfect shape, so not UPS fault it seems...) I hope POLKs quality isnt going to pot...I have had nothing but praise for them in the past. Only reason its losing an EGG is because of this. I am happy to report that Newegg promptly got me a replacement of course. So thats good. The replacement looks perfect and they both sound great, although not broke in yet...high hopes though

Other Thoughts: My (audio only) theater setup is under $1000 and I couldnt be happier. Get:

$250-300 Receiver
$50-150 Center
$75-200 Subwoofer
$100-150 Front Right/Left (each)
$50-150 Rear Right/Left (set)

...and you should be happy as me! Just my opinion, but anything more and you are looking to spend a lot more money...

5 out of 5 eggsAnother Polk speaker choice

Pros: Purchased a Polk CS-1 Center to solve a size issue with my HDTV stand.. I have a high end system..but the new stand for my 82" Mitsu was to small for my current Center.

Looked at many "Centers"... the Plok CS-1 would fit... But was very skeptical at the price point.. never owned a Polk product..

Well forget those comments.. The CS-1 is a jewel... I did a side by side compariosn with my "huge" Center.. which has a horn loaded tweeter and 4 midrange speakers .. It is not an exact match but very close... for one 10th the price..

So...Needed two "presence speakers" for my Yamaha "Aventage" 2020 Reciever.. grabbed these 50's

Like almost all reviewres these ARE exceptional for the price point.. When my "Mains" die.. which maybe never as they are 17 years old..I will seriously consider Polk speakers

Cons: samller than I expected.. but works well as "presence speakers".. read the specs.... dummy

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome value

Pros: Awesome sound from these puppies. Much better than I expected, since I picked them up for about $65 a piece. I have a 7.1 Denon HD receiver, which might make a lot of the difference from all the bad reviews out there. If you have a cheap receiver, your speakers will sound cheap.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Wait for these to go on super sale, as they do from time to time. Won't be disappointed, as it would be hard to imagine going bigger than these even in a decent sized living room.
