  • newegg Magnetically Shielded 5.1 Home Theater System Each two-way MX speaker has a maximum power handling of 100 watts and boasts a .63-inch pure titanium hybrid tweeter for warm, rich high frequencies and a 2.5-inch aluminum woofer for substantial, low distortion bass performance. An 8-inch cube constructed of rigid MDF, the MM-6 subwoofer employs an 800-watt amplifier, dual 6.5-inch black anodized aluminum passive radiators and a 6.5-inch black anodized aluminum cone woofer with an inverted Ribbed Elliptical Surround, delivering tight, powerful bass response with low distortion. The system is magnetically shielded to avoid TV interference.

The subwoofer also includes a proprietary protection circuit, letting you achieve clear bass at all volume levels. A low pass filter with bypass mode allows the subwoofer to blend perfectly with the other MX speakers, using the built-in crossover or a home theater receiver.
  • newegg Omnipolar Technology Mirage’s Omnipolar technology brings unprecedented performance to a variety of speaker sizes and room positions. This 360º sound philosophy—achieved via an Omniguide module employed on MX speaker—works with your room, rather than against it, to create the proper proportion of direct and reflected sound. Omnipolar speakers embrace and optimize reflections, offer excellent imaging, width and depth and perform optimally regardless of where they are placed in a room.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat for size (need to get crossovers correct)

Pros: Great overall sound. Lacks mid bass but as a small satellite system you can expect very spacious sound that should satisfy the average listener. Subwoofer is very accurate. What really blew me away was putting in blue ray "the 25th anniversary rock & roll hall of fame concerts" in DTS. Great sound.

Cons: Lack of mid bass but I was expecting that.

Other Thoughts: At first I was not happy. Set your receivers crossover to control your subwoofer at 120 (by pass on sub)

Set your front to 120
Center to 200
Rear to 110

Awesome. These are the Denons Aaudyssey settings and made a difference!!

5 out of 5 eggsCrystal Sound

Pros: Laser sharp sound! I was hearing new things in movies I have seen many times. Beautiful speakers fill any size room with consistent and incredibly crisp sound. The satellite speakers are surprisingly powerful. After using the auto calibration on the Yamaha, the center put out just the right amount of sound. I suggest placing the center at or below listening eye-level to enhance the sound.

Cons: The sub is pretty incredible for its size, but may not fill out a larger room with the kind of cinematic rumble most are used to. It does make for a very even and precise listening experience.

Other Thoughts: I put together a new sound setup for my parents since they were using an OLD RCA HTIB setup. I saw these on sale and told him to pull the trigger. I set up the new speakers, with a new Yamaha receiver. Totally blown away. I had always heard of the Mirage technology and figured it would be a great choice for my parent's large living room. Those little MX speakers produce serious, clean sound. Highly recommend!

5 out of 5 eggsOne active woofer - two passive radiators

Pros: see below

Cons: see below

Other Thoughts: To answer the question(s) about the subwoofer. It does not have a port to vent the bass from the cabinet. Instead it uses two (2) passive radiators on the left and right side of the cabinet to transfer this energy out of the cabinet. The woofer in the front of the cabinet is the active one that does all the "work". Because the box is sealed, the passive radiators move in and out as the active woofer generates most of the sound. It is still a "bass reflex" design but, doesn't use a port tube or slotted port to vent the lowest frequencies out into the room. The biggest gain is the cabinet size can be made MUCH smaller and there is no port noise (aka - chuffing or port turbulence).

5 out of 5 eggsSimply amazing!

Pros: I took the chance and got these on sale, but prior to doing so I heading out to my local Best Buy Magnolia store to demo them. Keep in mind first off these MX's were not in the closed in room, but in the open floor area which s HUGE!! The speakers were only hooked up 3.1 (Front left, right, center and subwoofer). It was playing Plant of the Apes on the Sharp 70" LED.
I want to say that I was amazed with the sub. The size of it was just simply stunning!!! Talk about a cube that really puts out some nice clear bass that can be heard (not really felt at least in that floor room). I just grinned and saw the sticker price on what Best Buy wanted them $999.00.
Once I left BB I got into my car and impulsively purchased the MX's off my iPhone.
Once they were received I hooked them up to my Marantz 1401 receiver in my open living room 19'x18'x11 (wood floors). Once calibrated with Audyssey popped in Underworld and after that War of the Worlds. I am nothing but proud of the purchase!!

Cons: Small as Bose but we all know bose $uck!

Other Thoughts: Wife wanted surround sound, but small since it was in our open living room. I was not going to go bose. Orbs I am sure are nice sounding, but ugly. Mirage is nothing but bar-none a awesome bargain. The sub itself for $400 is worth it. Newegg is just giving away these speakers; I'm telling you!!

5 out of 5 eggsConfusion regarding the sub...

Pros: Solid Sub at a great price...

Cons: Weak Center
I prefer standard speakers versus the "Omnipolar" technology, but it is implemented well here.

Other Thoughts: Regarding the speaker count on the sub.... Per the description: "dual 6.5-inch black anodized aluminum passive radiators and a 6.5-inch black anodized aluminum cone woofer"

This sub has one 6.5" woofer and two 6.5" passive radiators. Image nine is a corner shot of the front (with the four holes that hold the grille) and the right side radiator. Image ten is the same angle, but with the grille in place. Image 11 shows an image of the left side radiator. In image 11 you can see the grille in place (right) covering the woofer as well as the knobs protruding from the rear (left) that control volume, phase and low-pass filter.

5 out of 5 eggsMike W

Pros: The Sub, Front, Center and rear speakers are finished to near perfection. Excellent quality, solid performance and great sound. Sound dispersion is incredible. Listen to this Setup in the Big Box stores and then come back here and buy them. The price quite frankly is unbeliveable.

Cons: I really dont think of this as a Con, binding posts would have been nice but in my opnion would have been to large for these sweet little gems. The spring clips for the speaker wire are of high quality and make for a solid connection

Other Thoughts: My wife says they are sexy and look great when mounted on the wall, the sub contains two 6.5 inch passive radiators, one on each side and one 6.5 inch down firing woffer. The sound that this little sub produces is stunning. Bose is no longer the lead dog in small speaker set ups any longer. I have put these to the test for almost a year now without a single complaint.

5 out of 5 eggs1 subwoofer driver, 1 passive radiator

Pros: To those that see what looks like 2 subwoofer speakers in the sub box and are confused, see other thoughts...

Cons: See other thoughts...

Other Thoughts: The sub box has 1 active subwoofer driver, and 1 passive radiator. There are many different ways to build a sub, and most are either sealed boxes with one driver, or ported boxes with one driver (these have a tube). Ported boxes achieve lower bass, but they require more box volume and bigger subwoofer boxes. To achieve ported-like bass in a smaller box, sometimes passive radiators are used. From the outside, this looks like another speaker, but it actually just radiates the backwaves from the active subwoofer driver. When the sub pushes out, bass comes from the active driver. When the sub driver pulls inward, the force pushes the passive radiator outward, and bass comes from the passive radiator. Hopefully this explains what looks like 2 subwoofer speakers on the side of the box.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little speakers

Pros: - Small, and relatively good looking (for a speaker)
- Great sound, amazing sound for something so small
- Sub (firing 3-ways) is also good for the size

Cons: - Center channel is weak for watching movies, it started to distort at high volumes due to the amount of work it has to do compared to the other speakers - consider an alternative center, and use the Mirage center as a rear-effects speaker.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat's the Fuss?

Pros: The picture shows 5 Sats and a Sub, don't get the confusion, now back to the matter at hand. I'm nearing those golden years and been an electronic geek all my life. DJ'd about 25 years, built computer systems since 1988 and owned many stereo/AV systems. Most been Denon's and Klipsch's, but the Mirage are in a class by themslves and believe one owns the other now, could be wrong. I power these with a Denon 3808CI with the sub crossover set at 150. The sound is very crisp and clear and for a small sub, very good tone and rocks with action flicks. Whether it's movies, sports, or music, they handle it excellently. These are not designed of a large den, medium at best, but well worth the money.

Cons: I have put these through a pretty good test and couldn't find any inadequacies

Other Thoughts: At $799, a very good investment.

4 out of 5 eggsnumber of sub-woofer speakers in the box

Pros: definitely only 1 sub-woofer in box with 5 small speakers
great speakers for the price. Got for $600 in summer from Electronics Expo. easy wall mounting without special brackets.

Cons: wish it cost less to add 2 more speakers to make it 7.1.
