5 out of 5 eggsGreat system

Pros: I bought this set from Sam's Club for $215 so it was much cheaper. For the price, this is the best speaker system I have owned. The bass is good, center is good, and rear surround sound is good. The sub is wireless so no wires to run to the TV. I watch movies from my computer to my TV via Chromecast and use the Bluetooth option for sound from my computer to the speakers.

Cons: I don't really have any.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great sound--especially for the price, simple setup, unobtrusive looks that match my VIZIO 50" plasma well. Everything a soundbar needs to be.

Cons: I still have to use 2 remotes, one for uverse/TV, the other for the sound. I can turn the soundbar up all the way, then use the TV volume control (with the TV speakers disabled on it's menu), but with it setup that way, if I switch to stream music from my phone via bluetooth or to my HTPC, the soundbar is cranked all the way up, which is surprisingly loud.
Also, the soundbar doesn't seem to pick up a power-on signal from the TV's optical out until you manipulate the volume.

Hardly enough to offset it's pros.

Other Thoughts: I only knocked off an egg because it's not perfect, but I'm definitely satisfied with my purchase. Going from 2 channel stereo from two fairly decent tower speakers pushed by an early '00s Yamaha receiver to the S4251W-B4 is a pretty significant improvement, with just about every aspect of our entertainment system's sound being improved.

It even separates the channels well when I play Battlefield 4 on the HTPC. I really like this soundbar.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Loud, clear, wireless sub, rear satellites wired to the sub. Bluetooth, I can stream music from my phone to it as well.

Cons: Volume interval steps are a little big for watching at night in bed, 1 is just barely too quiet 2 is too loud, I would like a smooth volume curve over steps.
Not enough to deduct an egg though, it is a combination of my hearing and forced hot air heating.

Other Thoughts: What can I say, surround sound without running wires, sound is really good, goes way louder than I will ever use, and I got it for a great price.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Sound

Pros: Great Sound
5.1 Surround DTS
Wireless Sub+2 rear speakers
No messy cabling to hide for rear speaker/sub
Minimalistic feature provides less distraction

Cons: No HDMI in/out port
No pre-setting, must be adjusted variable setting for sound effects when switching between input
No back light for remote, make it difficult to see when watching TV in a low light room
Sub sound muzzled and not deep

Other Thoughts: Would like to have pre-setting for different inputs, back light for remote or use iPhone/Android for remote, HDMI in/out, EQ setting, aps for tuning on iPhone/Android

1 out of 5 eggsVizio's Customer Service Is TERRIBLE

Pros: The price:performance ration is very good.

Cons: If there's anything wrong with the product, don't expect Vizio's customer support to be very helpful.

Other Thoughts: Vizio is very proud that their product support is US based, but their representatives aren't knowledgable or empowered to solve customer's issues.

My brand new 5.1 sound bar is not working properly; the rear speakers both produce the same audio regardless of whether the sound is supposed to be coming from just the left or just the right channel. I tested the problem with multiple surround sound soundtracks (AC3, Dolby Digital and DTS) and none worked properly. To make sure there wasn't an issue with the sources, I performed the same tests on my previous Vizio 5.1 sound bar and did not experience the problem.

I called customer support, and the representatives I spoke with were not familiar enough with the product to provide any technical assistance beyond what is printed in the manual. When my call was elevated to a supervisor, I was told that, despite my setup working with a previous Vizio sound bar and having tried multiple audio formats, Vizio required me to test the product with a second device. Since I don't own any other 5.1-capable devices, that meant I needed to go to a nearby electronics store to buy (and then return) a Blu-ray player and a Blu-ray movie.

3 out of 5 eggsDont order as a surprise

Pros: Great system and great price

Cons: unknown yet except that it ships in manufacturers box with pictures and descriptions all over it.

Other Thoughts: Do not order as a surprise for someone in your household as this product does not ship with an outer box. This was supposed to be a surprise for my wife but it got delivered (I let her know that she couldn't open any packages coming this week as I had a few for her) while I was at work and it is the manufacturers box. I am not unhappy with the product I just wanted others to know in case they are buying for someone in their household.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent for the money

Pros: Great separation, decent bass, easy to setup, well made

Cons: Satellites need their own power outlet , which can limit placement. Not so much a con as a heads up.

Other Thoughts: Do not own these, but helped a buddy set his up. Took us all of 15 min.; hookup is intuitive, but the manual will walk you through it. Sound is quite good, but one note: we watched a football game, and the booth announcer's voice came from the bar, while the crowd and stadium announcer came out of the satellites. This may be due to how Direct TV transmits audio, or the Vizio TV these speaker were connected to, but I found it distracting and even annoying. I'd advise you to find out if you can disable the satellites with the remote if you want to skip them for a particular broadcast. Otherwise, well worth the $$.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat sound, but slow to wake-up

Pros: Audio quality as good or better then similar units costing twice the price, and of course a tremendous improvement over the built-in TV speakers. When combined with a newer Vizio TV, it will pass true 5.1 surround sound from the TV to the sound bar via the optical connection. Exceptionally easy set-up, unpacking the box was the hardest part.

Cons: Quick to sleep and slow to wake-up. When the TV is paused for a few seconds, there is a little over a second delay for the audio to return once playback is resumed. When the TV is paused for a few minutes, the sound bar will go into sleep mode and there will be no audio when playback is resumed. Manipulating the volume control will wake it up after a few seconds.

Other Thoughts: I have a basic setup, a HTPC and Xbox 360 each connected via HDMI to a 60” E-series Vizio TV, and the TV to the sound bar via the optical connection. Combined with a Harmony remote and Ikea Hemnes furniture, I finally have an entertainment center my wife enjoys.

5 out of 5 eggsSound pretty good in a small venue

Pros: This fills the space in my home theater area 20'x45; pretty well and even the bass pretty good when it is up against something. I use the side of the couch. This would work very well in an apartment setting. Sound is good, and relatively clean.

Cons: This is not an audiophile unit. I use this with an AppleTV and use the optical connector. It cleans up the signal pretty well, but it is not as tight as I would have hoped.

Other Thoughts: Not disappointed at all for what I bought it for. The surround speakers are good enough and clear enough to add to a small area nicely. It is a bit better than HDMI sound using the optical.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Decent System

Pros: Bought this at a discount. Was particularly interested in the fact that it had rear speakers. Also that the sub and rears are separated from the center so no need to run wires. It comes well packaged and in good shape. Very nice it includes all cables that are appropriate. It even has some wall brackets for the rears. Setup is pretty easy and quick. There are indicator lights on the front to show left to right balance etc. It's not a high end system, but worlds better than TV sound.

Cons: The center is a little tall so it may block your TV's sensors? The remote is a little cheap feeling, but it works.

Other Thoughts: Given I bought it for $160 I can't complain. The rear speakers aren't as strong as I expected, but it does vary by content. I didn't want to run wires front to back, nor buy a receiver for the Bose surround speakers I''ve had for a while. If you're looking for audiophile sound look elsewhere. However, if you get it at a decent price and have reasonable expectations you will be satisfied.
