5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Reciever

Pros: Excellent receiver, love the networking to my system, access to Pandora etc.
Plenty of connections.
This receiver works well and without issues for me but I don't use Apple AirPlay.

1 out of 5 eggsNever ever buy

Pros: absolutelly nothing

Cons: I have bought the 5.1 vesion of this a half year ago, and sure enough a month ago it died, the factory warranty is .. nobody is answering the emails, or any coommunication at all .. please save yourself a headache and don't buy

Other Thoughts: I love Pioneer .. or at least I used to, their speakers are still in my living room, but the receiver is an 15 pound paperweight

3 out of 5 eggsGreat AV receiver

Pros: Great AV Receiver, Awesome price.

Cons: The price is great 50% off, but the blue tooth adapter is ridiculously priced. It's half of what your going to pay for the receiver. I love pioneer but I feel like they are gouging the buyer for a proprietary adapter, which should be a built in feature not an add on

1 out of 5 eggsDo your research before buying

Pros: Great sounding receiver line. I was impressed with mine.

Cons: Had the VSX-1022, after 1yr and 1 week it completely died. No sound. Pioneer would not stand behind it because it was 1 week out of warranty. After about 6 months, had issues with the erthernet conection. Completely stopped connecting to interent and network. After a year total death.

Other Thoughts: Do your research before you buy. You will find that all the VSX receivers have poor transistors in the amplifier section, and fail after a year of use. This is very common on this line of receivers. As much as i loved this receiver, having to drop it in the trash can after a year of use, left a bad taste in my mouth about Pioneer products.

1 out of 5 eggsBeware of problems with firmware udates

Pros: sound quality of Pioneer products is usually very good

Cons: I own a previous model the 1121-k that because of a Firmware update failure it is not working anymore. Unless I take it to a repair shop there is no way to correct this situation -A problem solved by other brands like Yamaha-. I read the manual of this unit and it is still not clear how to do a good firmware update if a previous one failed for whatever reason. This repair could easily cost you $100 if you are out of warranty.. Since I applied the firmware upgrade from the Pioneer website for my 1121k model and my recveiver is not working anymore... then I want to warn you to be careful that this could happen to you.

4 out of 5 eggsLove Pioneer but...

Pros: Pioneer rcvr. with all the bells n whistles for a decent price. Astounding when in a 5.1 or 7.1 setup! Gives that nice house shaking base thump with ease :-)

Cons: Connected a couple Klipsch Synergy F-20 Premium Dual 6.5" and it seems to lack "warmth" on a simple 2 speaker stereo setup (I swapped out some old ones I know have warmth with any stereo and it was still to "cold" sounding). Does much better (as in day and night difference!) if using at least a 5.1 setup, but I wanted to us the stereo setup 75% of the time... Some of us still like the nice simple stereo sound while enjoying the ole vinyls.

2 out of 5 eggsHeadphone jack is almost worthless

Pros: Everything that has to do with physical speakers is fine

Cons: This is my big problem. I wanted a receiver that I could use with headphones at night, or in general to keep the noise level down in my 1 bedroom apartment I share with my girlfriend.

The channel levels you set for the speakers are applied to the headphones when plugged in, and there is nothing you can do about it. For example, my right speaker is quite a bit further away (12ft) from where I set compared to my left speaker (7ft). The level differences I have set to make these sound correctly also apply to the levels played in the headphones.

What a horrible design.

5 out of 5 eggsHome Theatre heaven

Pros: I have been utilizing the Pioneer VSX-1024 as the heart of my home theatre set-up. It receives HDMI inputs from my Directv digital HD receiver and a Panasonic DMP-BDT 320 blu-ray player and sends them via a HDMI to the Epson Home Cinema 8350 HD projector flawlessly. I set-up a Logitech remote to handle the 4 remotes. The sound is amazing from the Pioneer VSX-1024 to the Polk Audio 5.1 speakers. This is my third Pioneer receiver and I highly recommend them all.
An owner's manual cd came with my unit, this a vast improvement over the paper/pdf version; with easy navigation on my pc.

Cons: It wasn't free.

5 out of 5 eggsAn Excellent Receiver

Pros: This has a wonderful set of options which can be used to setup your home theatre system to suit your needs. The sound quality is superb with very little noise or distortion. Physical connectivity to the unit was quick and easy. I also enjoy the fact that turning off my TV will also automatically turn off the receiver.

Cons: The receiver did not come with a paper manual. You get a quick start guide and little more. Given that some of the options are less than intuitive, the person setting this unit up will need to reference the manual to get the configuration setup right. That might not have been the case if its configuration were a little more intuitive but this is something that you only have to do once.

Other Thoughts: I was able to download the 69 page PDF version of the manual and got it configured to my liking. While I prefer the software version of the manual (as text can be searched), it would have been nice to have a paper version come with the unit.
