2 out of 5 eggsThe Best HDTV (Minus the sound) for 3 months

Pros: Price and Picture!

Cons: Where to start? Well first off the sound isn't as bad as most of these guys claimed but it isnt great. The tv was awesome for the first 3 months and then the weird lines started popping out of nowhere. At first turning the TV off and on would help, but after while they got worse. Then when those stopped it started getting a discoloration on the screen and at first all i would have to do is turn on the TV and let it warm up for 10-15 mins and they would go away. Now it has gotten to the point that it is constant.

Other Thoughts: Tv isn't bad you get what you pay for. It definitely wasn't created to last. Save up and buy a brand name.

1 out of 5 eggsBEWARE! Horrible Customer Service

Pros: 42'' price 120 Hz

Cons: We purchased this tv last November because of the extraordinary price; everything seemed well for the first couple of months. Eventually we found out the tv was defective; it started to flicker blue and lose its signal. Had to turn off then turn on the tv to temporarily fix the issue. Flickering gradually gotten worst, so we called tech support to RETURN it. For safety, we decided to write down the serial number on the back of the tv and its model number. Tech support told us to call in 48 hours in order to receive a shipping label. Called 48 hours later, tech support had no record of our problem, so had to call for another 48 hours. This "cycle" happened for about 1 to 2 months until we finally received a shipping label. We shipped the tv in order to get a replacement, but the company happened to sneakily ship the same defective television claiming it was fixed. Now we're stuck with the defect, and plan on suing the company in a small claims court for our money back.

Other Thoughts: Customer support was located in India, tech support had no idea what they were talking about

4 out of 5 eggsHANNSpree 42'

Pros: Price! for only $450 I couldn't be beat and boy was I happy with the price/performance I got!
4 hdmi slots!
-Menu clean and simple
-120hz for gaming , I mainly bought the tv for this reason. I was afraid of slow refresh rates but with MW2 and with other fps's I was not disappointed
-Set up was easy and painless don't know what the other people are talking about. :o

Cons: The speakers. I must say although 15W it doesn't make up for the low volume I sometimes get. Also when the movie/game/tv show plays a high pitched sound the speakers go out of distortion. (It's not too bad)

Also sometimes I get horizontal lines running across the tv when its showing its deepest blacks. ( you really have to look to see the horizontal lines.)

Other Thoughts: The Pros greatly outnumber the cons , and when given the chance again I would buy this tv in a heart beat!
There have been to broken parts or whatnot and is living strong after 11+ months!
Love it! And I hope you will too! :D

1 out of 5 eggsYou don't even get what you paid for

Pros: Price.

Cons: Everything is wrong! I made the mistake of buying this TV at a low price and saving it in box for a later date to be part of some home renovations. After my living room was remodeled I finally broke out the TV from the box only to find out less than 15 minutes later that this TV had a mind of it's own. First off, the volume display comes on after 10 minutes shooting up to 100 and back down to 0. The only way to get it to stop, is to restart the TV. And even then, after 10 minutes the same thing. Second, the only button on the side that works is the power button. All the other buttons are useless.

The hard reality is, you can't buy a TV and hold it until a later date. You have to send in the warranty within 10 days of purchase. This sucks for people like me looking to the future of their home and saving a buck now. The same goes if you want to buy a a TV as a gift and hold it until the occasion arises.

$450 thrown down the drain.

Other Thoughts: Notice in all these reviews of those who had issues that unlike many other manufacturers, Hannspree hasn't even commented or apologized to these people about this. Wow!! I wish I noticed that before.

Also, since Hannspree can't and won't help me I had no choice but to inquire about a TV repair service to check it out. It would cost just as much to fix it as to buy it after the technician diagnoses it,orders anything for it and actually fixes it, if it is fixable, at $75/hr.

I buy a lot from Newegg and will continue to. But I will never buy or own another Hannspree anything!

2 out of 5 eggsbuy with caution

Pros: cheap; picture quality and connectivity is great;

Cons: picture breaks down; unhelpful customer service

Other Thoughts: There seems to be a common and potentially critical problem with this model, as several people on this board have complained about the same thing - picture breaking down unexpectedly. I bought mine 3 months ago and several weeks ago noticed that the picture would flicker to blue or black screen 5-15 mins into TV use. The problem has since become worse, with total picture breakdown to blue or black screen (not even TV menu can be seen) regardless of input (tried HDMI, S-video and VGA). Picture comes back after turn on/off, only to break down again.
So far, customer service has been very unhelpful (obviously restoring to factory settings is not going to fix such an issue). So overall, yeah it was cheap and it worked great while it lasted, but it only lasted so long. Buy with extreme caution.

1 out of 5 eggsBroken twice in six months

Pros: Decent picture for the price, the vivid motion is cool, and as always Newegg is great. The swivel stand is also nice.

Cons: After 2 months it broke for the first time. When you turn it on it normally comes up with a Hannspree logo and you can navigate the menu or watch TV, but one morning I turned it on and nothing happened. You can still see the backlight, but you cant bring up the menu or do anything else with it. I sent it back under warranty, but it took them a good 2 weeks to return it. 3 months later and the exact same thing happened. I called their warranty center again and told them I wanted the TV replaced, and the guy said he would put in a request and I would hear something in 72 hours. They just called and said I have to send it back to be repaired again, and in the meantime they will give me a replacement TV. I don't want a temporary TV, I want a permanent TV. I called them back and they said they would put in a request and I would hear from them in 48 hours. To sum it up, 5 days will have passed before I can even get an answer. Do yourself a favor, buy a decent brand.

Other Thoughts: I don't know if my experience is rare, but having a LCD TV break twice in 6 months, and then having the company refuse to replace it or extend the warranty speaks about the quality of the product.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Great price, 120 Hz capable, 1080p capable, stable swivel stand, volume adjustment slider moves FAST, many inputs, sound output is good, decent colors. 1 year warranty from manuf.

Cons: -Contrast is terrible: dark looks bad and white looks grey, at best. Can't adjust enough to suit my taste (i.e. good balance between brightness and rich color).

-120 Hz reproduction is not great: not working properly after 6 months; random stutter + inconsistent smoothing of movement on all sources and program types (from football on ESPN, to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, to 'Social Network' on blu-ray).

-Bad Support: directs you to India at first where they do not know the products or tech (told me 120 Hz will only work on 1080p source... ??), but now I'm dealing with US support over email and response is VERY slow.

-Some HDMI jacks stopped working: had to reset firmware (see Other Thoughts)

-Slow start-up time and slow to switch between source inputs

-Fair/poor remote sensor angle on TV

Other Thoughts: I do not recommend this TV or brand.

This is the TV for the living area, NOT the main "theater" or movie TV so the sound is fine. I turned on Dynamic sound setting; plenty loud for casual watching needs.

Unit is heavy.

Reset Firmware Instructions = Press input+0+2+3+6+3+menu. Select "Initial", then "Recall initial data". Unfort, this resets settings, but I've captured my below:
bright=40, contrast=100, sharpness=64, color=64, tint=-1, color temp=cool, backlight=14

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: A good, large, inexpensive display that looks wonderful both as a PC monitor and a TV for video games and movies. The sound is bearable and decent, about what I would expect for a display in this price range. And a great picture.

Cons: The sound is bearable, though admittedly lacking, but I knew that when purchasing. I will upgrade to an actual HDMI sound system whenever I'm done upgrading everything else. The menus are slightly lacking, but better than most displays in this price range.

Other Thoughts: For people unsure how to configure this TV to look as good as it can, this is how I have configured it:

Brightness: 36
Contrast: 100
Sharpness: 30
Color: 65
Tint: 1
Color Temp: Standard

The settings might seem backwards to some people, but what do you have to lose trying it? Write yours down and give it a go. As a professional display configuration technician, I have a lot of experience in this area. Every display is different however, even exact models, (though it's almost always only a slight difference for exacts), so slight modification of the settings might produce a better image for you.

Note: I didn't write my backlight setting because you should adjust it on your own. The room I use it in is dark, so a darker setting looks better. If yours is lighter, a higher setting would likely be better.

Also, I have it set to home mode, not retail, and I do have energy saving on. Retail, no energy saving, and BL 14 will likely cause anything the light touches to catch fi

1 out of 5 eggsHanspree

Pros: It comes with a remote control

Cons: Nothing about the TV is good, I can not return it because it broke after the 60 days. Please spend the extra money to buy a decent TV from a manufacture that you know. I hate Hanspree TV's

Other Thoughts: The word 'Hanspree" means "joke" in Iceland!

3 out of 5 eggsNo way it deserves 5 stars

Pros: Low price, decent picture.

Cons: Really poor sound. Don't believe the reviews that claim otherwise. I had to buy external speaker because the built in tin cans are awful. Very disappointing.

Other Thoughts: Since Hannspree is relatively new to the TV market (I guess) they aren't included in a lot of universal remotes code listings. I can't get my cable box/DVR remote to work with it or vice versa. I now have to get a learning remote that will work with both the TV and DVR. And to think I bought two of these at once, one for me and one for my SIL. Live and learn.
