Sports enthusiasts and action movie buffs will find their perfect 40” HDTV in the Sony V Series. These televisions use Motionflow 120Hz technology, which dramatically reduces motion blur in fast-moving actions, resulting in amazing natural movement. The BRAVIA Engine 2 utilizes a digital video processor to reduce visual noise and improve the overall image. True Cinema technology gives movie buffs a treat by taking advantage of 24p-capable devices, like Blu-ray players. You’ll catch every nuance of the stunning action with the 50000:1 contrast.

Expand your home theater with four HDMI (1080/60p), and several HD component and combo (1080/60i) connections. For extra versatility, turn your LCD TV into a computer monitor with the D-Sub PC input. The built-in ATSC/NTSC tuner with QAM also captures over-the-air digital TV, HDTV broadcasts and standard analog television.

You’ll also appreciate the Advanced Contrast Enhancer, dynamic backlight control and Light Sensor technology that help reduce costs by dynamically reducing power consumption based on ambient light and the displayed image. V Series televisions are Energy Star 3.0 compliant. Even photos will look great on your HDTV. Just hook up your device through the USB port and enjoy the slideshow!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Excellent Picture quality, Easy setup, User Freindly Menu, Good Sounding Speakers For A HDTV, Stylish Design.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I have had this 46inch version of the Sony V5100 since December of last year and since then this has been the best purchase I have ever made as far as tv's are concerned. The PQ is nothing short of excellent and for tv speakers the sound is very good. I also love the design of the tv as well, the mirror strip along the bottom of the tv adds an stylish touch. Its to bad Sony's new tv's didnt look this good. Highly reccomended if you can still find one.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Value

Pros: Good value/Price, Speakers OK for me, I'm not an audiophile, Handles all my inputs, works together with other Bravia equipt. (blu-ray player, ct-100 speaker system, presumably others)

Cons: Visible non-uniformity in background when whole screen is black - not noticeable when viewing content.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I am happy with this TV. It is my first HDTV, A huge improvement from my old SD TV. I bought a Sony CT-100 sound bar to compliment this set, probably did not need it. Sound from set speakers would have been ok without it, given I am in a small room that did not really have room for a 5.1 setup. I am not overly picky about sound, so take that comment as one mans opinion. The black level is not that great, and as I mentioned in the cons, there is some light streaking / non-uniformity around some of the edges. You only notice this when the screen is all black. If I had this to do over, I would have given more consideration to some plasma sets due to their superior black levels, but I probably would have stayed with this Bravia because of the value. I personally did not noticed a huge benefit to the 120hz technology when I was shopping, but maybe I did not see a sample video where it really mattered. Shipping was fast (3 days), and the set was fine on arrival.

4 out of 5 eggsImpressive

Pros: Very easy to set up. Love the way it talks to the Sony Blu-Ray Player and turns itself on when you put a disk in the Blu-Ray. This eliminated a lot of confusion by the highly technically challenged spouse. Great picture.

Cons: If it HAS a con it would be the internal speakers which are not great, but I presume Sony expcets you to use a surround sound system with it anyway.

Other Thoughts: I agonized a LOT before buying. Now I almost wish I had gotten the 46" instead only because if I ever decide to hang it on the wall, the larger picture would be better.

4 out of 5 eggsA Pretty Good LCD

Pros: Picture quality is excellent. Color reproduction is definitely above average and clarity is spectacular. I like the ease of use of the menu system and pairing this with a Sony home theater sound system to utilize the "Bravia Sync" as well as excellent sound makes for one rocking home theater experience.

Has plenty of AV connections and HDMI ports.

Cons: The remote control could be much better. I would have liked to see a controller that would also control a DVD, Blueray, and Amp.

I don't like the glossy screen.

It doesn't do perform as well as it could with legacy video signals.

It didn't come with an HDMI cable.

Other Thoughts: This is a great buy and I don't regret it. I am pretty happy with the screen's performance over all and the color reproduction is excellent.

For the price being paid it would be nice if this set came with an HDMI cable. While it is not a Con, this monitor doesn't have a network interface. An RJ45 port would have been a nice touch and especially with connectivity to Netflix or other services.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome TV

Pros: 1080p, not i. 120Hz is incredible compared to the 60hz. Compared side to side several others in the store, the Detail, Dynamic Range, Side to Side Panning and color was superior. What blew me the way the most was the quality of the Black and how Black it truly was.

Navigation and menu is extremely easy to use.
I love the multiple HDMI ports, USB, etc... great for showing pictures from my Nikon D700.

Cons: No issues so far. When viewing a 480i image via component it tends to look choppy and nasty.

Other Thoughts: Like with any other LCD TV, the first thing I did was turn off the Sharpening. Looks much much better that way and not so pixelated. Tends to be easier on the eyes

3 out of 5 eggsNeeds Latest Firmware

Pros: Excellent Picture Quality (Cannot Stress Enough!), 120hz support, 1080p through Component, low latency, great price!

Cons: Had defective Firmware for at least four months. A lot of the time while booting a blu-ray my entire screen would turn pink. When changing the channel sometimes the audio went static until I flipped it back. At one point I had to have the tv serviced to fix that the audio kept completely dropping whenever I watched a special feature on a blu-ray disc.

Other Thoughts: Sony quietly released an update to the tv at the beginning of august (and didn't tell me about it, I found it at the end of august) which fixed a laundry list of issues with the tv, most of which could've been avoided if they bothered to test their firmware updates before doing a wide release on them. The pink screen fix was not listed officially as a fix, however since updating the tv I (thankfully) haven't had any more. If you're lucky enough to have the latest firmware on it (or are smart enough to update the firmware yourself to the latest version, because Sony wont' do it for you) you might have a good tv.
