5 out of 5 eggsTurn Dynamic contrast off

Pros: Those having trouble with changes in brightness/contrast should try turning dynamic contrast and "Dynalight" off. It makes a world of difference when you TV stops flashing due to this subpar idea of Toshiba's.

Cons: This TV is not made of cheese :(

5 out of 5 eggsGreat TV

Pros: Good picture quality
Plenty of ports
Not too heavy or bulky

Cons: The dynamic contrast changes can be a little distracting

Other Thoughts: I like this TV a lot. I use it 100% as a computer monitor (hooked up via DVI->HDMI). Video games and movies/TV all look great on it -- HD stuff looks better but standard def stuff looks great as well.

4 out of 5 eggsToshiba 40" LCD HDTV

Pros: Beautiful color and contrast, frame is not bulky, great value.

Cons: Sound is moderate, has frozen a few times, Rock Band/Guitar Hero lag.

Other Thoughts: I have had this TV for about 6 weeks now. Aside from some minor issues, the TV has been working great. The TV has locked up, or frozen, a handful of times. Simply turning it off and on again will make it work again, but I have a slight fear for the future. Otherwise, color and contrast are great. The digital tuner is also very nice so I can pick up HD stations. I use my Xbox 360 on it, and I had to use the in-game lag control setup to play. I never had to do that to another TV or Projector before. I would recommend it to a friend.

4 out of 5 eggsGood economy LCD HDTV

Pros: Cheap for the size. Lots of inputs on the back. Picture looks good.

Cons: No DVI input. Speakers aren't terrible, but not very good. Only audio-out port (to bypass built-in speakers) is optical.
Menus are a bit slow, which combined with the initial IR interference when turned on, makes the remote seem unresponsive at times.

Other Thoughts: Not sure if it's the TV or the devices I've hooked up, but full 1080p actually displays as larger than the viewable size, clipping a bit off the sides & top/bottom. Only noticable when viewing content where those hidden portions are important (such as web browser).
Also, at full 1080p, I've noticed that once in a while the screen will freeze for a half-moment, as though the processor can't keep up and drops a few frames.

5 out of 5 eggsTough to beat, works great with Linux

Pros: Good picture quality, reasonable price, nice selection of inputs, works well with a DVI/HDMI adapter connected to my Myth box running Gentoo Linux -- just set Xorg to the native resolution, and it synced right up.

Cons: On-screen menus are a bit tough to navigate, but once it's setup, it's fine. I use a home theater w/ video routing capability, so I let the stereo handle switching everything & never need to delve into the TV's menus.

Other Thoughts: Six months in, and I love this TV.

4 out of 5 eggsdecent little HDTV

Pros: good quality for the price paid, features comparable to other more high-end hdtvs on the market; picture is amazing, live sports HD broadcasts are STUNNING as well as my Xbox 360

Cons: audio leaves something to be desired, sometimes will hear rattling/vibration noises when Q-Sound is enabled and I turn up the volume...eventually hooked tv up to home theater system and set tv speakers to off...problem solved;

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent TV and Great Price

Pros: Purchased this LCD HDTV when it was $700 on Newegg and I couldn't be more happier. It was my first purchase of a high-definition TV and coupled with my cable package and Xbox 360, the quality is stunning. The plethora of input options is also great, meaning I can connect both cable and Xbox over HDMI (and still have one slot left over), also use VGA or DVI (through another HDMI cable) to hook up my PC, and have space for expansion for a home theatre sound setup if I wish.

Cons: None! Definitely consider purchasing this if you are considering a mid-size HDTV!

Other Thoughts: Newegg and Toshiba are both stand-up companies in the tech world... can't go wrong with either.

5 out of 5 eggsBang for the buck

Pros: This unit sets up quickly: there are four screws that hold the stand to the screen (best installed upside down). As with most LCDs, this is lightweight and can be positioned where you want with ease. The 40 to 42 inch size seems the be the best for the average living room. As the previous owner of a Sony 25" tube TV, the HD display of this Toshiba is nothing short of breathtaking. The combination of features vs. price makes this best value of any 1080p TV that I've seen.

Cons: As with a great pair of speakers, this TV is very revealing of the input source. Regular TV looks bad because it is bad. I watch everything in Native mode and question the usefulness of the other viewing modes (Theater Wide 1, etc.)

Other Thoughts: If you don't have a blu-ray player for your dvd's, you are going to need to get one. The LG BD370 is a nice unit for the price. After a few phone calls to my cable company and some experimentation, you are going to need HDMI cables to connect your TV to your cable box, you blu-ray player and to your game console. If you want 1080i, all of the other video inputs appear worthless. BTW, once you start watching HD, you are not going to want to go back.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst 1080p tv

Pros: I bought this lcd from newegg with ruch processing and was here seriously the next day with the regular ups 3 day select and once again newegg did a great job with processeing and shipping. this is my first 1080p 40 inch and couldnt ask for any better, some people say that the hdmi wont work well cause you have to push it in real hard for it to work properly, thats a lie i just plugged my 360 elite and worked great with no loseness or hard time reading the hdmi cable, ill definetly buy the same model again.

Cons: which i can think of for now, i should have bought it new
instead of recertified but then again it came with no damage and no sign of previous usage.

Other Thoughts: for the price and free shipping great buy from the great place possibly on the web if you have the extra cash go for it new wont be disapointed!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat picture, awesome price!

Pros: This price, paired with free shipping, is unbeatable. The TV is huge at 40", it has 3 HDMI ports, 2 component hook ups, 2 composite (1 on back and 1 on the side), 1 S video, digital audio out, ant/cable in, and 1 VGA + 3.5mm audio jack. You can pass audio over HDMI, and if your HDMI enabled device doesn't support that, you can pass the video via HDMI and the audio via the 3.5mm jack. I ordered it 8PM Monday and it was here by friday. Awesome TV, great picture, good sound, great shipping!

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: You can label the inputs on the input menu, so for instance, instead of seeing "HDMI 1, HDMI 2, HDMI 3", you can label them "Digital Cable Box, DVD, Game Console". However, you can only use the preset labels, you can not create your own. Other than that though this TV is wonderful.

1080p is beautiful.
