There's a Lot of Neat Technology inside Every Neato Vacuum.

Neato vacuum

It Scans, Maps, and Plans

Most other robot vacuums move around a room at random. They bump into walls, bump into furniture. They go in circles, cleaning some spots several times and others not at all. But Neato knows exactly where it's going at all times.

Its remarkable laser eye uses infrared light to scan the surroundings five times every second. The result is a highly accurate 360-degree map of the room and any obstacles. Then the robot efficiently cleans in a pattern of straight, overlapping lines.

Neato vacuum

Don't You Dare Call It a Sweeper!

A lot of robot "vacuums" are really just sweepers. Their low vacuum power is merely an add-on. But not the Neato. It's the most powerful robot vacuum available today. At the core of every Neato is a centrifugal compression-impeller that uses jet engine airflow principles to create high-powered suction. You can count on it to pick up everything a traditional vacuum would - dirt, pet hair, dust, cereal, and more.

Neato vacuum

Obstacle Avoidance

As it moves around a room, the robot's sensor enables it to avoid obstacles like furniture, walls, stairs, and pets.

Neato vacuum

It Takes Care of Itself

A Neato can handle large floor plans, because it automatically recharges its batteries. When it's low on power, the robot simply returns to its base and recharges. Then it returns to clean, right where it left off.

Neato vacuum

With a Neato there are no bags to buy or throw away. All the dirt and debris is collected in the Neato's top-loading dirt bin. When the bin is full, you simply empty it into your trash.

Neato vacuum

Easy Scheduling

Set a schedule and the Neato will automatically clean at the time you set - daily, every other day, or three times a week.

Neato vacuum

All Floors Are Covered

Unlike some vacuums, Neato robots are designed to work on all types of surfaces. So it can go from the carpet in your living room right onto the tile in your kitchen.

Neato vacuum

Pets and Allergies

Breathe easy, there are Neato models specifically designed for pet owners and allergy sufferers. They feature two very special tools for removing allergens from your home. The bristle brush traps pet hair and lifts it from the surface. Then the special pleated filter removes particles from the air stream down to 0.3 microns in size, including mold, spores, cat and dog dander, dust mites, pollen, and textile and carpet fibers.

Neato vacuum

It Cleans Where You Don't

There are places in your home that don't get vacuumed very often (or at all), because they're so hard to reach. A Neato robot is only 4 inches high, so it can scurry under beds, couches, and other places regular vacuums can't go.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: No idea since I never had a chance to try it.

Cons: No idea since I never had a chance to try it.

Other Thoughts: It wouldn't charge out of the box, giving me a battery error.
Contacting Neato support, I initially got a canned response. Then they offered to send me new batteries, which I was OK with. But then they suddenly decided they needed to replace the whole unit and wanted me to pay return shipping.
Neato obviously has a problem with quality control with their refurbished products, so I was not too keen on paying for their mistakes. Unfortunately they would not budge, so I ended up returning it to Newegg, who had no problem paying for the return shipping.
Yet another reason why I will stick to Newegg and be wary of manufacturers like Neato. They don't understand the value of keeping customers happy (in a reasonable way).

5 out of 5 eggsThis little thing rocks!

Pros: Navigates very well. Finds it's way back to the dock to recharge. Resumes cleaning the house after recharging. Has a good size catch tray. Simple user interface. Suction is very good. We have 5 short hair Chihuahua's and a long haired foster terrier and it does great cleaning up after a days worth of shedding. Makes the wife happy because now she doesn't have to clean hardwood floors everyday.

Cons: It is very loud. Sounds like a super charged blow dryer, probably not good to run at night. Good vacuum's are loud vacuums.

Other Thoughts: Came very nicely boxed. Actually has two battery packs. Instructions were very easy to understand and follow. Had this thing put together in less than 10 minutes. Programming was super easy. I had my doubts, but this thing is great.

1 out of 5 eggsExpensive Stupid Garbage tagged "High Tech"

Pros: Programmable schedule

Cons: Its performance is from from satisfaction... Well, to much annoyance. for so many times it cannot go back to the dock to recharge itself. For a spot going back and forth so many times, it doesn't vacuum the trash and hair at that spot at all. Everything is still left on the floor. I have scheduled to clean my place every day already, but the floor is still very dirty and dusty. No pets. I would say it's smart for the seller to make it ineligible for return, just like a trap.

3 out of 5 eggsMeh +

Pros: First, you will anthropomorphize, wheeled box notwithstanding. This little fella careens around the joint and occasionally stops, spins around on his axis getting his bearings and then bounces off a coffee table, just like Uncle Eddie. Unlike Uncle Eddie this guy, we call him Zippity, cleans up after himself.
Good power, reasonable square feet per charge on hardwoods, works reasonably reliably if you factor in the complexity of the machine to your reliability metric.

Cons: When the battery is low, which is often, the list of ailments is long.
Zippity sees the charger and when he is running low he heads for it. He does a dance that results in him backing up to it it with his backside shaking like skinny Elvis. If his trajectory is less than ideal or he rolls forward after his charging wires contact the charger plates or either the plates or wires are not in a conductive mood due to grime buildup, then he may not charge rapidly, completely or at all.
If his batteries are worn out (the factory bats have a maximum amount of charge cycles before kaput) then he will not charge or will not retain charge.
Every time you recharge is one less time that you can recharge.

Other Thoughts: I expect that many reported error issues are really charging issues.
One of the benefits of buying this refurb is the short duration warranty frees you to buy top shelf lithium ions with beaucoup muscle and many more recharge cycles than the nickel hydrides that come with Neato. If you are using batteries that cut your recharge in half due to larger capacity, that fact alone will double the life expectancy of the bot and makes for a solid justification for buying them, warranty be da**ed.
As far as the issues with good charging, keep an eye on the bot and check the connection points for cleanliness.

5 out of 5 eggsThese things are awsome!

Pros: Amazing product. I use this to vacuum around the print shop and it does an amazing job all the time...and let me tell you there is many obstacles and it figures it out every time. I had a Roomba and this unit is far more superior in everyway. One thing to mention, like it says in the manual, it takes a few goes for the batteries to reach their full capacity. The first time it started it only ran 10mins and the second it ran for about 45mins and after the 4 recharge it goes for well over an hour and a half. The suction is amazing, every time I empty the bin I'm blown away. I totally recommend this product.

Cons: Nothing so far

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Excellent, replaces a Roomba 700 series vacuum and does twice as better job. Most impressive is the way it maps a room before starting, it gives the impression that it's really intelligent. Plus it does all the rooms without assistance with the roomba I had to move from room to room half the time. On top of that it seems it picks up a lot better.

Cons: Loud, sounds let a jet engine starting up. Edge cleaning could be somewhat better, its about the same as the roomba.

Other Thoughts: For a refurbished unit the one I got appears to be a brand new machine and the batteries are definitely new in the machine I got..

3 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: When it works, it works well

Cons: Neato began experiencing errors with rebooting and batteries in less than one year. Other than dropping an additional $100 dollars on replacement batteries, I have yet to find a fix from the company.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: when they work they do a fairly nice job of light vacuuming.

Cons: Did not work properly out of the box.The memory it uses to map out a room did not work. It always got lost and would just wander around totally lost. Even called neato robotics and after about 2 hours on the line got someone to talk to. Had me wipe the bottom sensors and do a reset by holding the power button down for 20 seconds til it came back on. This did not work so I have returned it back to newegg.

Other Thoughts: Be warned, do not buy these refurbished robots! I don't think they are serviced properly or they would work. I have been an early owner of these and it took about 6 robots before I received one that works.
And they were not refurbs. I thought that getting one that had the bugs worked out of it a refurb would be a good idea. WRONG!!

1 out of 5 eggsWorst $300 spent, don't buy this

Pros: - Works well in obstacle free environments when it isn't knocking doors into the closed position

Cons: - I was hesitant to purchase a refurb but the unit was fine for the first few months. I only used it once/week.
- Every other week there were hiccups. Please clear my dirt bin, although it wasn't full. Please clear my brush, although it didn't seem fully clogged up. Being a robot slave to my robot vacuum, I complied.
- Now, I get the dreaded "left wheel is stuck with debris" error. Turning it around, I notice the left wheel is not as smooth as the right wheel.
- Their support website is useless
- Worst $300 I've spent in my life, can't get a replacement, can't get the money back

Other Thoughts: Seriously don't buy this, waste of money. It's a public beta test of a product that they should be paying you to use. Completely aggravating.

4 out of 5 eggsNeato XV-21 Refurb

Pros: Bought on sale $199 and paid $18 for the additional warranty.

User menu and operation is simple. If so inclined, can be done using your toe. If the missus is reading, i did not do this!

It sucks, but in the good way! One pass and it has picked up dust and debris. Spot Clean and scheduler are a godsend for busy families or with pets.

I have a young family who are prone to missing their mouths! The spot clean covers about 2m square and can be let loose under the table whilst the kids are in their highchairs! They love it and have called it Veato. It navigates around table and chair legs.

At night we clear the room of clutter and pick up toys to give Veato the best chance for a good clean. It comes out after we're in bed to complete the open plan kitchen / dining / livingroom and front hall in about 90 minutes on one charge. It can get stuck under tapered/sloping furniture or on top of chair legs with odd shapes, so i'd recommend have it clean the area a few times during the day where it can be monitored and can note trouble area. I just move the offending chair outside the magnetic boundary and its all good.

We move it (Veato and the base station) around the house on a regular basis and we have not had any issues with it completing in one pass withou recharge or losing the base station. We only limit it to a room at a time as the upstairs is abit of a rabbit warren with bedrooms and bathrooms.

This saved us 3 hours/week and has made my wife a very happy lady!

Cons: It can get stuck on objects, so watch it the first few times to make sure its ok.

This is my first robotic vac, so have no frame of reference but to me the noise is ok. It doesnt scare my small kids (like the large upright vac) and can still carry on a normal conversation in the same room. I'm personally ok with this given i know how effective the vacume is. We had guests in the basement below and said that the scheduled cleaning sounded like being under a flight path, but that has more to do with our soundproofing than anything!

Other Thoughts: We clean the dustbin and filter after each use as its only the size of about 2 rubics cubes. I would have like this to be bundled with 2 additional filters as you will need these.
