Pros:
Outstanding image quality, intuitive menus with custom setups. For those of you still clinging to 35mm, you really need to spend a long weekend shooting with this - it will convert you. It has nearly identical image quality compared to the D3 for about a third of the cost. Stunning bargain for what it provides - and over a year later, still sells for the same price I paid. The sensor onboard will outresolve many lenses.
Cons:
The sensor onboard will outresolve many lenses. DON'T buy the variable aperture zooms. Shoot test shots on those, and then invest in real glass ie : 24-70mmF2.8, 80-200mmF.8, etc. or Nikons fast prime lenses will produce markedly superior images on this body. I do reccommend the older 80-200 over the new 70-200 as I find it optically superior, half the price, and does not vignette if you happen to also have a full frame body.
Only CON I could think of would be the lack of HD video capture that the D90 offers for less $$. Of course, things always getter better and cheaper the longer you wait. You aren't shooting while you are waiting though, are you?
Overall Review:
The 10.5mmF2.8 fisheye lens is the most fun I have had with this camera - outstanding 180deg coverage with exceptional sharpness even wide open. Truly a must have. A D300 with the 10.5, 24-70, 80-200 is all you need for 99% of all shooting.
You can spend thousands more to achieve very, very marginal improvements over this camera. If you are a sports pro, perhaps you need the extra frame or two the D3 will get you. If you need higher resolution, you should be looking at medium format solutions costing 5 figures.
If this one seems too pricey and you don't shoot that often - consider the D90 with the same image quality AND the HD video capture onboard.
