Awesome E-reader 10/19/2010
This review is from: Ectaco 5" High Resolution e-Book Reader (jetBook-Lite)
Pros:
Uses AAs so changing batteries on the go is much simpler than carrying adapters.
As many have mentioned, the battery container makes a nice finger grip.
SD cards give multiple options instead of just an internal memory option like an ipod.
Extremely easy on the eyes. Reading an ebook on a computer for more than an hour gives me a headache but I've used this thing for 3 hour periods and have to stop for other reasons before resting my eyes. (something to consider when decided whether you want color or non-color screen for an e-reader)
Extremely easy interface.
Great price.
Reads any ebook/document file type I throw at it (with the exception of some protected pdfs).
Saves last spot (have not tried between battery replacement but the bookmark feature should help with that).
Cons:
Crashes often and the only way I can seem to fix it is to plug it into a computer, which is a pain if im reading away from home and get locked out.
Usb port would have been awesome but not a huge deal considering it has SD.
Gets 22 someodd hours on 4 AAs which is good, but compared to something like the nook which gets more than 3 days per charge (or so I hear from people who have them) makes it a reason to look at other options for long term readers.
No Wifi.
Overall Review:
I purchased this before the price drops of both this specific model as well as the nook and I believe even the kindle before the ipad came out.
As mentioned the only thing I really have to complain about is the crashing. Its really annoying when you go to flip to the next page and have to run to the nearest computer with a usb cord to use it again.
