Has it's cons, but I think it's improving 01/30/2011
This review is from: Adesso AKB-430UG WinTouch Pro USB full size multimedia touchpad keyboard (Dark Grey/Black)
Pros:
Sensitive touchpad on a multimedia keyboard that isn't huge. These are not that common, so you take what you can get I suppose. I *need* an integrated multimedia keyboard/touchpad, and this is the best I've seen. The fact that the keyboard isn't 5 out of 5 is more a commentary on the low demand for this type of design. If everyone wanted one, they would improve. All about $'s
Cons:
Stiff keys, mouse input hangs every so often (button doesn't release when you let go of the touchpad) so you have to tap again to release. Keys get electronically "stuck" meaning that the number '8' key, for example, gets stuck when you didn't even push it, so you get a row of '8888's' on the screen until you press another key. I really think this is caused by static electricity (ESD).
Overall Review:
My macaw bit through the keyboard cable, so I had to get another one. On the new one, the key sensitivity has greatly improved. It's much easier to type now. Looks a little different too, so it must be model line improvement. I haven't had the electronically 'stuck' keys either. Only had the new one a week though, so, we'll see how it goes.
I've had to replace this keyboard a few times (dang bird) but it's never because of low quality or workmanship. So I've had several and they mostly behave the same way.
As long as they're making 'em, I'll keep buying.
For now, it earns another egg and a half, from 2.5 to 4.
