Better than stock, and many other air coolers, but if you are going to go water...there is better out there 01/13/2012
This review is from: CORSAIR Hydro Series H70 Core High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Pros:
The product works great out of the box. It's easy to set up, everything is provided and already connected. It makes entry-level watercooling painless and quick.
As far as performance - I paired mine with 120mm Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F fans in the recommended push/pull configuration for the best balance of quiet and performance, and it does perform well and is quieter than my previous third-party air cooler. And it definitely cools much (MUCH!) better, and quieter, than the stock HSF that comes with the processor.
I'm currently running an Intel Core i7-2600K at 4.5ghz, with my max temp under heavy load 24/7 at 69C.
So it's good. It IS "good" - no question.
Cons:
That said...it cools only SLIGHTLY better than the previous third party HSF I was using.
It's "good", just not "great". And if you are deciding to go watercooling - even with a smooth integrated system like this - you kinda want "great".
Overall Review:
As a result - the 'average' score. Does it keep a moderately overclocked CPU cool? No question. Does it run quiet? Yes, it does. Is this better than stock? Yes, by a LOT, when paired with the right fans. Is it even better than many third-party HSFs? Yes. Does it really show off the potential watercooling? Well, no.
Best to think of this as just a 'really, really, really good performing air cooling solution', and you won't be disappointed.
