This review is from: SeaSonic SS-750KM3 750W ATX12V V2.3 / EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready
Pros:
Modular (low clutter), thick, mesh-wrapped cables, plenty of power connectors, high rated capacity and efficiency
Cons:
Coil whine, silent fan, and cooling design (see other thoughts)
Overall Review:
This power supply is a good deal for the money, it has a high efficiency, puts out alot of power and comes from a reliable, proven brand. And because it is modular, you won't get much clutter. But this PSU has a problem, it has bad cooling. The silent fan in this power supply will *not* keep your computer quiet, because when this power supply gets hot it starts to whine. I tested this in several configurations, and the results were always the same; when the PSU is cooled by an external source, there is no coil whine, but if the PSU is allowed to keep itself cool, there is coil whine because it gets too hot. I was able to find a direct cooreleation between the temperature of the power supply and the amount of noise it was generating. So if you plan to use this as a "quiet" PSU, then only put it it the BOTTOM of a case (it exhausts into the system, rather than out the back of the PC), and make sure that it has good external cooling, like an intake fan at the bottom front of the case.
