This review is from: Ceton Echo – Windows Media Center Extender Watch Live & Recorded TV/HDTV Access Personal Media Libraries on Any TV on Home Network, HDMI Interface, Remote Included
Pros:
The only thing that the Echo can do properly is to extend television. If that is all you are looking to do, then this device will work for you.
Cons:
The echo is an incomplete unit. From a user perspective it never got out of beta testing. The expectation of a Windows Media Center Extender is that it replicate the functionality of Window Media Center on the host PC. This unit will not properly play MP3s, it will not play MKV/MP4 files without stuttering has occassional reboots and the screen looks completely washed out. Additionally animation of the main home screen does not work properly and all together the color scale is very poor. I was a beta tester on this unit, and I will be selling mine on an online retailer as I don't feel they ever made any real progress out of beta testing. I would not recommend this unit as the Xbox 360 is hands down a better device and will complete all of the tasks mentioned above.
Overall Review:
Don't waste your money even if it is discounted. I believe development has stopped on the echo in an incomplete state. The discount probably reflects Ceton trying to unload overhead in stock.
