This review is from: SUPERMICRO MBD-X11SSH-LN4F-O Micro ATX Server Motherboard LGA 1151 Intel C236
Pros:
This little mobo has everything you need to set up a home server:
- Eight internal SATA ports
- NVMe M.2 SSD slot
- IPMI v2
- Four independent NICs, plus one more for the IPMI.
- Five speed-controlled fan headers
Cons:
- Took two tries to get all the DIMMs seated right. Probably operator error, although the board does seem to flex a lot when plugging things in. I'd recommend plugging in as much as you can with the board resting flat on your workbench before mounting it in whatever case you're using.
Overall Review:
I recently bought a Supermicro 2U rackmount chassis to set up a home server, and was trying to get by with a leftover gaming mobo. Finally gave up and got a proper server mobo. The IPMI alone made it worth it, plus all the screaming fans have now been tamed by having proper controls on them.
The Intel "fakeRAID" BIOS option is the same you find on most gaming mobos these days, and while Windows is perfectly fine with that, Ubuntu doesn't work with it at all. Not a problem, just something to be aware of if you're planning on a Ubuntu installation.
