cheap and it works

Rosewill RC-USB-PS2-BG 6" USB to Dual PS/2 Adapter Cable - Beige
Rosewill RC-USB-PS2-BG 6" USB to Dual PS/2 Adapter Cable - Beige

Pros: cheap. works well. haven't had problems yet.

Cons: shipping charge can kill the deal. it's beige (may not look good in all black systems)

Overall Review: it's so cheap i was skeptical if it'll have connection issues like some others. however it has been working full time for over two days with another rosewell 7 port usb hub i also got on the same order for my laptop. so far so good. as long as it works, i can't complain at this price.

Most Critical Review

at least two different versions of this drive?

Seagate BarraCuda 7200.10 ST3500630AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive (Perpendicular Recording) Bare Drive
Seagate BarraCuda 7200.10 ST3500630AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive (Perpendicular Recording) Bare Drive

Pros: fast, NCQ, sataII, perpendicular recording, seagate warranty, trust-worthy reliability record.

Cons: noisy. seek noise is louder than any drive i've had. need serious dampening to kill it. it has no automatic acoustic management either, so no tuning is possible.

Overall Review: it seems that some guys got quieter drives, then this recent reviewer said his drive is made in Taiwan. That's something new, as the several noisy ones I got are all made in China. I would be more interested to know if those guys who claimed the drives to be quiet all got the Taiwanese version or made elsewhere. So it's true that there are at least two versions out there. It'd be interesting to find out which one is the better, if they are any different.

Works well

PNY A-MH-XX-K01 MHL Adapter
PNY A-MH-XX-K01 MHL Adapter

Pros: Small, good quality, works without any issues

Cons: Not much.

Overall Review: Power is supposed to be connected to MHL adapters, and the options I've seen on the market are either dongles like this but much larger and less reliable, often from no-name makers, or very long cables. This works on my Xiaomi 2 and Samsung Galaxy S2 without any problems whatsoever. I followed advice of connecting power before connecting to the phone, but I'm not sure if it'd fail otherwise. So far there's been no problems at all, with movies or games. Got it on sale for a very agreeable price too.

Okay

Team 8GB microSDHC Flash Card (Card Only) Model TG008G0MC24X
Team 8GB microSDHC Flash Card (Card Only) Model TG008G0MC24X

Pros: Low priced, worked as advertised.

Cons: random access speed is low. using it for phone with s2e and while workable, the random access speed seemed to have slowed down to a near-halt with less free capacity. CrystalMark attests to the slow random access speed. It may not be an issue for most, but something to consider.

Overall Review: CrystalDiskMark 3.0.1 x64 * MB/s = 1,000,000 byte/s [SATA/300 = 300,000,000 byte/s] Sequential Read : 19.636 MB/s Sequential Write : 4.414 MB/s Random Read 512KB : 18.728 MB/s Random Write 512KB : 0.458 MB/s Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 2.803 MB/s [ 684.4 IOPS] Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 0.007 MB/s [ 1.6 IOPS] Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 3.032 MB/s [ 740.1 IOPS] Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 0.007 MB/s [ 1.6 IOPS]

not bad

FUJIFILM A170 Silver 10.2 MP 3X Optical Zoom Digital Camera
FUJIFILM A170 Silver 10.2 MP 3X Optical Zoom Digital Camera

Pros: good build quality, decent lens, quiet zoom motor, uses NiMH AA, small size for AA battery cameras, large screen, fast lens at f2.9, many fool-proof features, auto scene selection (very nice for "dummies"), panoramic mode that works well, simple to use, very portable, long battery life.

Cons: battery meter fluctuates in accurate response to the NiMH voltage, and has the unintended effect of making the "dummy" user nervous. Image is highly compressed and shows in smeared up details. ISO higher than 400 are very noisy with flattened colors and details, though higher iso are often selected automatically to prevent blur (which is understandable from an average consumer point of view). Video files are too big for the resolution relative to even the average, can use better compression methods.

Overall Review: Got this camera for my dad, who can't ever figure out how to use one other than the quickie shutter button. The automatic scene selection was the reason why I got this, along with the ability to use rechargeable AA and its small size (smallest among the AA cameras?). The automatic scene selection works very well. It actively detects lighting, faces, and subject distance (thus uses more battery power as it continuously focuses and meters the scene); it then uses the combination of these information to determine if it's portrait, backlight, macro, night modes, etc. Scenes are manually selectable too, especially ones that are not auto-detectable (e.g. long shutter requires tripod, and wouldn't be selected automatically since it'll not be fool-proof. ;)). There's a "manual" and regular "auto" mode as well. It's a good camera for dummies, with its innovative auto scene selection modes, if you can tolerate the mediocre image quality.

runs cool

Western Digital WD Green WD10EADS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Western Digital WD Green WD10EADS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Runs incredibly cool, low spinning noise

Cons: the seeking noise is slightly louder compared to the 5000aaks it replaced, but that should be solved by turning on acoustic control.

Overall Review: Runs this in my NAS device (DNS-323). The old wd5000aaks will engage the fan since it runs pretty hot. This drive however, have not yet activated the temperature control despite extremely heavy loads with persistent seeks for 24/7 for several days. I do not have a temperature reading as it is not connected directly to a PC, but it is apparently much cooler than wd5000aaks even under load. The seek noise sounds a bit loud, but that also sounds like the 5000aaks with acoustic control turned off. I can't do the switch without connecting the drive directly to a PC though, so I just leave it alone. Speed seems quite good, but then I can't vouch for that since I use it in a NAS, where there are plenty of speed bottlenecks unrelated to the drive. Overall it seems ideal as a NAS/backup/storage drive, with its lower temperature and power requirements. The price was right too when I got it on a sale with free shipping. That part will only get better, presumably.
