Competent drive at good price
Pros: -- activity light -- self-closing cap
Cons: -- no lanyard -- end of USB port still open
Overall Review: There are 3 things about USB drives important to me: form, size, and speed. Form: this drive is physically big compared to many. It’s thick plastic case is sturdy enough, but may block closely spaced USB ports beside or above it, especially on thin laptops. Although I dislike separate caps, this oversliding snap cap cover enlarges the dimensions significantly. The cap goes over the USB plug, but the end stays open to dirt and elements. A subtle blue light tells when activity happens. (Although I like the slim, metal drives from other vendors, I do miss the activity light on those.) It has a lanyard ring, but no lanyard. It would not fit on a thick key ring or carabiner. Size: it comes with a single blank partition, only exFAT formatted for compatibility. In 10 seconds it reformats to NTFS for large files to backup (like movies). For the size of a small SSD hard drive, it holds a lot! “Corsair” pops up immediately upon plug in. I like manufacturers giving these non-generic names to separate from other devices. Speed: It works well, but the performance is average. This drive averaged about 45MB/s reads and writes about 25 MB/s on my system. The Corsair GTs are much faster at double the cost. Corsair makes excellent memory products that should last a long time. It has a 5 year warranty. It also costs less than an external 128GB SSD and is much smaller/lighter to carry around.
Ouch . . . can't make lemonade
Pros: -- lightweight
Cons: -- died quickly -- not reliable
Overall Review: Out of the box and plugged in the 5.1 oz drive. The white light came on and I dragged 5.5 GB of files to it. It seemed to quietly complete the task in about 2:45 minutes, but then the white activity light alternately goes on/off and I only hear the "click of death." The drive appears and disappears from the device list, too quickly to see anything. The drive is dead.
Great Value!
Overall Review: With internet gateways pulling 4-port switches, you may need this. Best value on market. Works flawlessly.
Excellent powerline adapters
Pros: -- small size -- ease of setup
Cons: -- CANNOT BE USED WITH SURGE PROTECTOR
Overall Review: Make sure you can plug directly into outlet or power strip WITHOUT surge. Otherwise, they will pair, but ethernet signal will not pass through. All devices like this work in that way, so it's not peculiar to TP-Link. Just wish someone would invent one that can do this. Transfer of signal is fast and flawless. As internet gateways throw out the 4-port switch built in, there is more need for this, or for where your wireless signal can't penetrate.
Many of these bought and used
Pros: Always reliable for me. Great price. Really speed up old machines with spinny drives.
Cons: No screws or 9mm shim included. No big whoop. A few older laptops that insert from side need a small "boost" (I've used cardboard or plastic) to get them to seat in the internal connector.
Overall Review: Good drives; excellent value
Great for quick things, needs some panache
Pros: -- Can do many projects quickly -- quality kept throughout- even compressed -- nice AI use for photos -- value pricing
Cons: -- trouble installing on Win 11 -- help leaves beginners behind -- some common formats not well integrated
Overall Review: Unfortunately, I had a poor install experience with both PS Premier (PSP) and PS Elements (PSE). It consistently crashed with Error Code 16 (uninstall and reinstall). I followed the FAQ for the error, but nothing improved. It took remote sessions with two Adobe techs to find a workaround. Some things tried were counter to their purposes and they reversed those changes to actually do what they intended. (Like changing all Adobe directory names, then uninstall couldnt find uninstaller.) When they couldnt figure how to set component security properties, they simply forced both programs to run as admin. Now the programs have generic desktop icons. I routinely use other editors, but this is my first experience with these programs. You actually install three programs, including Adobe Organizer, where media thumbnails reside. Memory is efficiently used. You will lose ~5MB at login for update and crash processor processes. Software runs smoothly on Windows 11, i5-8500 with 8GB memory. How does PSE work? Very well in general. Adobe made good use of AI to do automatic things such as cropping, touching up photos, background processing and deftly cutting out main images. The bokeh effect is particularly nice when using background blur option. (See image.) You can produce nice photos quickly, trusting the tools. The routines for doing various things (collage text, fix common problem, etc.) are not well integrated in one interface. You have to exit the program to reveal the main menu to change many functions. Surprisingly, when I tried to open a PNG, I got To use this file, you must install the Camera raw plugin from the Help menu. PSPs default Quick option is set for casual and quick use. Little is done on the actual timeline once media segments are set. Other windows open to do things like trimming video segments. You adjust, close them and go back to timeline. Switch to Advanced tab to work directly on the timelines and do tweaking of individual tracks. As a beginner effort, I trimmed all video tracks, added canned music track, applied 5 different transitions, slowed down one track, and faded final audio. (There are 15 transitions to choose from.) Rendering for export was fairly fast. Compressed export is available (up to near 45% reduction) and video still looks very good. (See example video.) I found Help integration needs a lot of work. Oddly (as of mid-November), the Whats New on the menu interface for PSE 2024 opens a web page extolling the features of Premier Elements 2019(!). When I searched from PSP Help for remove media from organizer, my web browser opened and showed general web links for remove media from WordPress. Searching never brought up the relevant solution for 2024. I cant understand why Adobe doesnt open their site to this version and drill down to the topic answer when help is chosen. Dont get me wrong; both programs can be very useful, especially if you need quick editing or layouts, once your learning curve kicks in. However, this software is seemingly suitable for beginners and I would ask that Adobe to fix install issues, make components integrate more seamlessly, support common formats without extra plugins, and make help-- helpful. Perhaps future updates will fix the issues or at least add FAQs that address the problems.
Far superior to the 2-piece ones that might have screw holes that work!
Good Drives
I like the metal case, although this one has a plastic over the metal at the back. Form is good-- not so tiny it can't be easily pulled, and not large enough to interfere with close USB ports.
Excellent Customer service
Lina actually contacted me about my order without any problems. Seems the shipping company didn't respond properly, but package was delivered. She was ready to send out a replacement. Nice folks.
