If you’re a PC builder or gamer, AbleGamers is a charity worth knowing about, and not just from a “feel-good” perspective. AbleGamers is dedicated to breaking down accessibility barriers so that people with challenges can enjoy video games on their own terms. Their work spans from custom assistive tech engineering, peer counseling, and inclusive community building, to helping game developers design more accessible titles.

AbleGamers shows how gaming can significantly impact quality of life. Their philosophy is that play is a powerful weapon against social isolation. For many gamers with challenges, being excluded from the gaming world isn’t just about missing out on fun, it means being cut off from one of the most important social channels available today. By investing in adaptive tech and accessible game design, AbleGamers helps make it possible for those individuals to connect, compete, and socialize through games.

Robert Maynard Hutchins, said “the best education for the best is the best education for all”.
I believe that holds true for just about every design feature of machines and Application UI. Many of these tools not only assist the intended audience, but those of us who don’t need those features, but desire them as a better designed interface in many cases.
Additionally, I’ve had the idea that there should also be more games created with the protagonist of the game is an individual with specific physical challenges that are a part of the game mechanic an the narrative of the game. There’s recently Drag x Drive for the switch, but there needs to be more, and more variety.

I wish we had more accessibility in games. Some of the options I prefer over the norm, like toggling aim down sights, or a hold instead of spamming a button.
I live with a disability and navigating the world when it is made for people without disabilities is insane. Video games being a platform where people can get accessibility options is a great place for people with disabilities to be!
I want more!
