A Most Excellent Case
- Pros: This case is huge and well built. out of all the cases i've bought over the years, buy far the best one yet. the brushed aluminum is a nice touch. the extra space between the mobo and the tray is also a good thing the mobo stays ten times cooler than in my other cases. two mounting points for PSU. 12 actual bays if you remove usb connectors, but still having even 11 bays is quite impressive. if you have the space go for this case.
- Cons: I didn't buy it from newegg unfortunately. other than that not really any.
- Other Thoughts: mounts server boards nicely and i have room to spare.
big and HEAVY box.
- Pros: Truly massive box. Tall and deep. Space underneath motherboard was good place to mount my water pump. Superb cooling. I moved components to this case from an Antec Lanboy. My 6 hard drives (video storage) dropped from 48 degrees in Antec to 27 - 32 degrees and motherboard temp from 45 degrees to 27 degrees. CPU temp slightly down but expected as watercooled with external heat exchanger.
- Cons: Truly massive box. CoolerMaster's site says 10 kg (22 lbs). This is not true. More like 38 lbs. Side panels and front are aluminum. Rest is steel. I really thought I was getting an Aluminum case. With as much stuff as I put in this case, needed to start out with low weight.
- Other Thoughts: I did add some fans to stock. 2 addl 80 mm plus a front 120 mm/ triple hard drive mount (Lian Li). Put only 3 hard drives in the included CM 4 drive/ 3 slot adapter. Thought that 4 drives would limit air flow. Front panel vents and side vent have filters. Will keep inside cleaner but will themselves need to be cleaned. Comes with rollers. As heavy as this case is, this is needed.
Truly great case, but with Caveats
- Pros: There are actually 12 5.25" bays, one populated by USB, Firewire, buttons, LED, Sound panel - panel can be moved to any bay. Included fans very quiet. VERY sturdy w/frame crossmembers. 6USB for new mainboards. Good rubber feet or optional wheels included. Second slave supply has included slave to primary supply cable so they switch together off mainboard. 4in3 module awesome idea, you could fit 4 of them for 16 drives if you eliminate switch bay device. Included 5.25" bay floppy adapter but can put floppy in 4in3 too! Room for lots of fans like the crossflow (optional). Black Window side available. Ceiling fan. Brushed metal sides and front pillars, painted top w/plastic forehead piece. VERY heavy. Large Supply box. 5.25" bay covers metal mesh with foam-like plastic inserts. Lots of included hardware included thumbscrews where needed. Crossflow mount appears to have good clearance I think. Case bottom has mesh screen over part of it so a fan mod possible. Brushed Metal Quite NICE!
- Cons: 4in3 *hard drive mounting* not tooless but *module install* IS tooless. Removable mainboard tray/rear assembly one HEAVY piece with too many screws to remove quickly. Side opening for top supply too small to show off supplies. Very top 5.25" bay, where switch panel is, NOT tooless. 5.25" bay covers hard to remove unless you know the trick, see below. Install of power supplies could have been easy, but adapter plate made to lock from inside so you have to suspend supply w/hand while attaching plate AND then attaching to case (stupid, the plate should just let you drop supply in with plate mounted first!) Foamy inserts of bay covers almost impossible to remove it seems. Ceiling and side panel fan mounts only 80mm (duh)! Cables should be longer!
- Other Thoughts: Trick to remove 5.25" bay covers: using very thin metal strip or knife, slide in between one side of cover and case pillar. Push in far enough and catch then pull out. Keep pulling out until one side of cover completely out. Remove. Case top not anodized aluminum but painted. Side panel opening seems to be about 11"/280mm give or take & has 6 radiating bars for mounting. Torx tool needed I think. Possible to mount *2* top 3.5" externals in 4in3 modules but no front cover for *2*, only *1*. 4in3 module will take 80mm fan if floppy installed w/HDs, fan has nice easy release device. There's room to mod ceiling to allow 120mm fan. Case 8-9" deep approx. Case gives you more bays than newer stacker! This one will do BTX/ATX Conversion (the most versitile). Motherboard tray will mount all kinds of form factors! BUY THIS SO THEY KEEP MAKING THEM, IT'S FABULOUS!
