Antec kick-started the quiet computing revolution with the introduction of Sonata, the first computer case to combine style and performance in an enclosure designed from the ground up to be completely quiet. Since then, Sonata has sold over half a million units worldwide and the demand continues to grow. Sonata II combines the classic style and silent performance of the original Sonata with an upgraded SmartPower2.0 450 power supply and innovative new cooling design for handling the latest, fastest technologies.
Most of Antec's PC enclosures stick to their tradition of conservative case designs. They typically stay away from stuffing the case with lights, and very few of their cases even feature a window. Instead, their focus is on quiet computing and simple elegance. A perfect example would be the Sonata II. With the words Silence is Beautiful stamped across the front of the box, the idea of quiet computing is obvious. Rather than use three or more 80mm fans to put airflow through the enclosure, Antec has switched to 120mm fans in the front and rear. This leaves us with nice options if the stock level of cooling isn't enough. We can always switch to a fan with higher CFM ratings to create a wind tunnel for the computer.
This is a great, quiet case for holding every piece of game gear you can imagine, all under a hood designed to leave your enemies guessing!

Great for cooling and silence
- Pros: I’m an occasional gamer and plan to use this computer as a HTPC. So I wanted quiet without spending big bucks. I feel I got that in this case. I love the rubber grommet mounting features for the fans and HDs to reduce noise. Also, the front door for the drive bays is removeable of you don’t like it, but the door swings well out of the way and will help to reduce the noise of the CD/DVD spin. The power supply has two fans that pull air out of the case. The rear fan will not run if not needed. The inside fan runs at a slow speed (@ 900+ RPM) under light load. The PS also has an “RPM out” for the inside fan for monitoring. Two 12V rails give a total 32amps of power, more than enough for my single GPU configuration. Steel construction helps reduce noise and stops RF interference coming from the PC. The 120mm fan moves a lot of air w/o high RPMs. The air channel would be an excellent feature if I could use it but my CPU heatsink is too big. I will use part of it to hold an air filter
- Cons: I’d imagine the air channel would be very difficult to get in and out, so if you change your mother board or processor a lot, it wouldn’t be worth the trouble. I didn’t use it because my CPU heatsink is excessively large. The PCI card slot and motherboard mounts do not have a quick disconnect. This does not bother me because I do not switch out my components a lot. The power supply wires for the SATA drives could use a couple of extra inches, they are not long enough to easily reach the bottom drive bays. I don’t care for a door in front of the CD/DVD drive bays. It is a bother to always open the door to turn the system on and off or replace discs. If it was done for noise reduction, they could have put some foam on the inside to help even more. There is an air filter on the front but there are a ton of gaps around the drive bays and an air inlet for the air channel in the back that has no filter. Bare bones weight of 20 lbs. VERY HEAVY.
- Other Thoughts: The air channel would be a great feature had I been able to use it. It has a pop out panel for an 80mm fan mount above the video card area and an 80mm fan mount for the CPU heatsink. You can actively draw in cold air for your hottest components. However more fans mean more noise. Over all I am very satisfied with this case and recommend it to anyone that needs quiet or many cooling options. Went to a LAN part and I noticed many people opening their cases for added cooling. My CPU never reached above 47 degrees Celsius. I would not recommend keeping the PS if you are running two high end video cards. I would also not recommend it if you move your case a lot, this thing is heavy and the beautiful finish would quickly get scratched. My system consists of the following:
Asus P5LD2 mother board Intel 820 Pentium D CPU Scythe Ninja SCNJ-1000 Heat sink w/o a fan BFG 7800 GT OC GPU Corsair 1G XMS2 memory Two SATA 1 Hitache 160 GB drives. WD 7200 RPM IDE 200 GB drive Lite-On DL D
Good, but will not quiet a noisy machine
- Pros: This is a nice case. If you're looking for a case that looks cool (but not tacky), has all of the basic modern features you'd expect, and delivers a minimum standard of cooling, this is for you. This is the case you're looking for if you're not really sure what case you need.
- Cons: While this case may bring an already-quiet mid-range machine to near silence, it will not significantly reduce the noise of any case that uses a VGA cooling fan. The design flaw is that the expansion cards face plates have a hard and tight mount to the case itself. This unfortunate problem causes the case to amplify any vibrations caused by a case fan.
- Other Thoughts: This case uses negative pressure to acheive directed cooling without extra fans. While this will reduce noise in some configurations, it will also tend to draw in dust through every availible orifice, such as your optical drives.

- Pros: Well built case, solid construction and offers a lot of expandability.
- Cons: If you like dust in your case this is the one for you. Both my CD & DVD burners are clogged with dust and I have had to replace the rear fan 3 times and the cpu fan twice. I have a dell next to it that is fine so it is not the location of the case that is the problem.
IN one word QUIET!
- Pros: Hands down one of the best cases made. I have configured probably 20 or so custom configurations with this case over the last year and have not had one complaint from a customer yet.
- Cons: None...If you want quiet and all business from a case and it look good to then this is the case for you
Great case
- Pros: Easy set up and access to hard drives. Excellent quality. Very heavy and very quiet.
- Cons: Almost impossible to run IDE drives unless you build your own ribbon cabling.
- Other Thoughts: Good choice for that 'perfect' machine.
