5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Decent price; very very sleek looking; small; fast; doesn't need a power cord.

Cons: Takes up 2 usb ports. Oh well.

Other Thoughts: Purchased for a dying laptop with a broken dvd burner several months ago. Great replacement, no setup other than plugging it in.

1 out of 5 eggsIts square

Pros: its white, square, and has mass. If it were a truly WORKING unit I'd also say low cost, but as a means of elevating my blood pressure and a paperweight -- kinda pricey. Well it DID work perfectly ONCE - just long enough to pass the initial "is it doa" testing.

Cons: worked properly for DVD and CD burn & verifies (one each). Cool (I thought, and filed the drive away with my various bits and bobs to be called on when traveling).. Alas unknown to me it had made its last disk, gasped it last gasp. Left me up the creek w/o a paddle. Thank you samsung -- not.

Other Thoughts: As always NewEgg got it here quickly - otherwise -- just another caveat emptor day.

5 out of 5 eggsNice and small, works well!

Pros: Works perfectly with my desktop and my netbook, a Samsung NC10. Also, I love that it's dual-USB - no power adapter! Rock on.

Cons: It is a little slow, but this is most likely due to the USB interface. I got a white one, but it doesn't match my NC10 perfectly. If I had known that it'd be slightly off like this, I'd have gone with a black one.

Other Thoughts: I'm generally not a brand ho these days, but Samsung is really earning some prestige in my book with the quality of their products. I also have a 305T monitor, it hasn't given me a single issue since the purchase.

2 out of 5 eggsMacbook Pro

Pros: Small. Slim. Attractive looking drive.

Cons: Requires two USB ports. The USB ports on the Macbook Pro are located on opposite sides of the laptop. The problem with this MPB and this drive is that the two USB plug cords are not separated/long enough to allow the USB cord to connect to both sides of the computer.

I had to use a USB hub (would not work with just one USB port plugged in), at which point it did work.

Other Thoughts: Beware if you have a Macbook Pro.

4 out of 5 eggsVery good, slim, a bit delicate

Pros: Lightweight slim form factor. Very quiet running. Easily recognized by several of my Win XP computers. Nero burning software works fine.

Cons: Construction is of good quality and finish but seems somewhat delicate. No defects here, just won't likely take any hard knocks

Other Thoughts: That said, I probably would still buy the Samsung again for overall good price and quality.

Cons: Can't play my movies on it because they don't make drivers for linux......Been looking for a driver...

Other Thoughts: Don't buy it...if you using Mac or Linux OS

2 out of 5 eggsNo good for viewing DVD Movies

Pros: Set up easily for loading data and software to my Samsun NC10. But that's it.

Cons: No audio at all when playing DVD's. Downloaded the firmware revisions at least twice. Sad part is, I bought this bundled with a Samsung NC10, thinking that it would be easier and definitely plug-n-play. It's also very slow. I don't think this was really designed for much more than data management. Haven't tried to write anything and don't think I will. I'll probably be easier to put it on a memory stick and use my primary desktop. Would return it if it weren't for the fact that it was only a nominal addition when purchased bundled with the NC10. At least it works for loading software to the netbook.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat External DVD drive

Pros: Works using one USB connector on my Dell Mini 9. I also tried a shorter much smaller USB cable from my Buffalo external 2.5" drive and that cable works as well. Cable is much smaller than the cable that shipped with the drive.

Little noise when reading DVDs. I have not tried the writing to a DVD but I am sure it will work fine.

Cons: Cable that ships with the drive is very large in diameter so it does not flex well.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this drive to anyone looking for a good inexpensive external DVD drive

1 out of 5 eggsBad Experience

Pros: None in my case.

Cons: Hard-copy documentation is extremely poor...no help at all for getting product to work.

Other Thoughts: Device is supposed to be plug-n-play, and not only did it not work (got a yellow exclamation mark with error code 41 in Device Manager), it caused my existing internal CD burner/DVD-ROM drive to no longer work, with same error in Device Manager. And yes, my Dell P4 computer met the requirements for this external drive. I'm reasonably computer literate, but this was beyond my level of knowledge, so I ended up hiring someone to fix problem. Ended up having to delete an entry in the registry to get my internal drive to work again. So much for plug-n-play. A very disappointing experience.
