1 out of 5 eggsReview Update - STAY AWAY FROM THIS

Pros: Sounded good when it worked. Read my previous review for the pros of the system.

Cons: Dead, dead, dead. Like so many others, I had to send it back after a week. The cooling fan stopped working and the system kept overheating and shutting down.

Other Thoughts: JVC needs to recall all of these and fix them with better components before sending them back into the market. Stay away from this sytem until they do.

5 out of 5 eggsCrisp Sound

Pros: The sound is crisp, clear and the bass vibrates the floor. Aesthetically appealing, the silver finished matched my TV quite nicely. The nicely designed speakers command attention yet do not stand out in an obnoxious way like some others do. There is plenty of power coming out of this system for an average sized room, but not quite enough to get the police to come knocking. Which of course can be a good thing. :)

Cons: The front panel display is small and becomes difficult to read if you're more than six or so feet away. As others have already mentioned, the lack of an audio output is a big negative. The one and only input is labeled VCR which means that if you're routing your TV audio through this input the front display will read VCR the whole time instead of TV.

Other Thoughts: I felt the front panel display should be able to be edited to read what you want it to (like TV) when using this input.

2 out of 5 eggsDied after 15 mins

Pros: Worked great for 15 mins

Cons: Had similar problem with previous reviewer. Worked fine for 15 mins. After that the video crapped out. Both the onscreen video (HDMI) and the display on the DVD player itself died. Audio seems to be unaffected though.

Other Thoughts: will update after RMA.

4 out of 5 eggsA lot of value for the dollar

Pros: Setup was very easy and the system delivers very clean, clear sound. The subwoofer delivers good bass. This system has more than enough power to rock a normal room (I have 20' cathedral ceilings and it's still plenty loud). The remote also has good range and can control the unit from a wide angle (trust me... that's important!). Since this sytem is a AM/FM tuner, CD player, DVD Player, and MP3 player, I replaced several components with it (now I'm down to 2 remotes, one for this unit and one for my Tivo). Anything that looks good, sounds good, and simplifies my life IS good!

Cons: To play MP3's (from disk or from USB), you need to turn on your TV and navigate through the menus (built in display isn't much help). It only has one input so you can only hook one device to it (I used it for my Tivo's audio). Oh... and when it's turned off... it has a very bright and somewhat annoying red led that glows. None of those things are show stoppers, but they're the only cons I can think of.

Other Thoughts: One thing the specs don't tell you is how the thing loads. It has 5 individual slim-line CD drawers, and you can play one disk while changing the any or all of the other 4 (which is nice when you're rotating your music).

5 out of 5 eggsJVC TH-C60

Pros: For newbs, this HTIB is very user friendly to put together. Once it's together, if you have any sort of stereo system, DVD knowledge, you can get this puppy operating in no time. The sound is great, and quite powerful. Could you get a better system? I'm sure, but at what cost? This system is solid, sharp-looking, and unbeatable for the price.

Cons: As far as i can tell, there is no shuffle feature (but i haven't explored the entire manual yet). There seems to be a limited amount of aux. inputs, BUT i'm able to get my VCR, and gaming system hooked up to it, so it's all good.

Other Thoughts: I'm a professional musician, but i've never really owned a good sound system before. I guess i was not a bonafide audiophile, just a performer. The first thing i cranked on the system was Wagner's, Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral. It was incredible. My wife and i both agreed that we don't know how we've gone this long without listening to music on better equipment. We then popped in The Matrix, sat back, and listened to the bullets ricochette around the room. Again, it was intense. As a professional musician, and newb to the sound system scene, I am very pleased with this setup.

2 out of 5 eggsDOA: Will Update Review After RMA

Pros: Well, the system is sleek, and powerful, and good sound for 5.1 at 1200W. Produces an excellent picture, plays every type of movie codec you could want, and holds 5 DVDs.

Cons: I powered up, 30 min later it decided to power down. Saving Private Ryan was just getting good. Since then, it won't power on for more than 3 seconds. Also, if you have lots of audio devices you want to go through your HT, this system only has input for one AUX which is fine for my purposes.

I will update after RMA.

Other Thoughts: Figure JVC would have made a better system. I'm an electrical engineer so I'm pretty sure I did the wiring right. I used Belkin's 16 Gauge speaker wire and don't seem to have an shorts anywhere. Looks like I just didn't get lucky.
