PLEASE READ IN FULL! This post will help you
- Pros: You really do get a lot of goodies for the price of this MB; lots of SATA connections, 2 wired LAN, built in wireless LAN with a magnetic based antenna (keep this away from your hard disk), tons of cables, along with a decent software package. I actually would have rated this at 4.5 if there was that option and the only reason I’m not giving it a 5 is because it was so hard to get setup. As with all Asus MB's I've owned (and its a high number), this MB is rock steady. There are tons of connections for Hard Disks and fans.
- Cons: This MB left the factory a little premature and working around the BIOS glitches was tiring. At first power up the MB did NOTHING; fans came on but no video, no beeps, nothing; it did the same thing with the video card, memory, and processor removed completely. This was not a bad board, the problem was attributed to the slow rotation speed of a 10CM case fan! This was only found after re-assembling of the computer on a workbench where you need no case fans. Asus tech support gave me an RMA for this problem, which tells me they don’t know either. Next problem I encountered was a POST failure for memory (this happened to a lot of people) and I was using memory certified to work with this board! The fix is to install one module, then manually set the timings and voltage for the memory you are using, then you can install the dual channel module and it will work fine. Corsair has an excellent web site, which contains the BIOS settings used to certify their memory with various MBs.
- Other Thoughts: (continued)
Next, the sound was horrible (another complaint of a lot of people). This board actually has very good sound if setup properly, just make sure you have the BIOS setting for “Front Panel Support Type” set to HD Audio, not AC97, then install the latest drivers. There is also a problem with the MBs layout; if you use the PCI-E #1 for your video card then you have a “hot spot” since its located right next to the heat fins from the MB chipset. If you use PCI-E #2 and have a large video card…let’s face it, if you are looking at this MB, you are going to have a big video board…then you can no longer use SATA ports 1 and 2. Yes, Asus does give you right angle SATA cables; they still sit too high to properly seat my video board.
Hardware installed was AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+, Corsair DDR2 800 (TWIN2X2048-6400C4), EVGA e-GeForce 7950 GX2, standard 610W power supply.
Best Board for Business and Gaming
- Pros: Extremely stable board for single or dual chip processors. Provided drivers work excellent with 32 Bit and 64 Bit Windows OS. BIOS SATA drive support boots drives with out added drivers. Moderate overclocks are simple. Wireless works flawlessly without slowing the system at startup. VISTA ready. Checks for power problems before damage could occur at startup. Tons of features. AM2 support is excellent.
- Cons: Bios does require settings changes - not difficult and well covered in the manual, but could be hard for some. Needs +36 amps at the 12 volt supply.
- Other Thoughts: Neo HE 550 power supply, AM2 Athlon64 X2 4800, two SATA WD2500KS drives, two ASUS Silent EN7600GS 256 PCI-e GDDR2, Two GB. "Balistix" DDR PC2-6400 RAM, Windows XP 64 Bit/ XP 32 Bit/ VISTA RC-1. Runs great in 64 Bit XP. Extremely fast and cool in all uses with moderate fan cooling (three 80 mm. case fans). Only board I've ever owned that offered me zero issues with the heavy software loading I apply. Would be great for any Media System.

- Pros: No problems with the mobo...
- Cons: The Sli bridge that comes with the mobo, was damaged right out of the box.
I called asus, they said tuff... it's condidered an accessory... even though it has the asus name on it, and comes with an asus mobo, it's considered an "accessory" and is not covered by their warranty... Pretty said customer service IMHO...
- Other Thoughts: With the attitude I recieved form the lady at asus.... NEVER will I purchase asus anything again...
But... NEWEGG sent me not 1, but 2 SLI bridges... one short, one long...
I can not say enough GOOD about newegg!!!!!!!!
Solid Board!
- Pros: Great overclocking. Great wireless support (for cheap now!). Easy support from ASUS. SLI wasn't a hassle either.
- Cons: There's some RAM that has trouble with this board. I had simply been testing a friend's (value) DDR2-800 RAM and it didn't boot, but my XMS2 DDR2-800 did when it arrived.
- Other Thoughts: Great board if you want to stick with AM2 processors. I've owned this board for 2 years and love it.
Great board
- Pros: This board works perfect out of the "Open Box". Yeah, I took a risk and jumped in. Couldn't pass up the amazing features this 'older' board has for only 121.00. The eSata, dual nics, dual RAID and its bios upgradable to the quads. What 700 level SLI can you get with dual RAID and Dual Nics for under 150? AND this thing has enough history to have many people worked it over to solve bugs. Great board
- Cons: The open box is a risk (no eggs taken off) and it came with absolutely nothing (no Q connectors, cables, screws, wireless antena or mic - nothing! but it was clearly said - you get nothing. In fact, the box it came in was an in-side-out P5 box - Ha.
- Other Thoughts: M2N32 Wireless Deluxe, Ath X2 6400, Dual 2gig OCZ SLI DDR 800's, XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog, Antec 900, 250 gig Seagate ES.2 (blazing fast drive!)
