Great, Big RAM
- Pros: Performance is flawless. Price is as good as or better than lower quality product.
- Cons: The size can be problematic. The total height is roughly twice your normal stick of RAM, and if you have a cooling setup that covers any of your RAM slots you could be in trouble.
You do have to manually set the RAM to the faster timing, but it's very easy and the steps can be located.
- Other Thoughts: It's a really good value for really good RAM. Worth it as long as there's no size issues.
Corsair XMS2 - 2 X 2GB
- Pros: This memory installs easily, and was recognized by Vista as expected. Although not overclocking at this point, it distributes heat well, good for overclockers. Computer has been on for a week straight with no memory glitches yet.
- Cons: I can't say this enough....test your memory thoroughly before you install everything (especially Vista). Test each RAM stick separately. I did not and memtest didn't find errors on both at first, but with only one 2GB stick running, errors were immediately found. Corsair has already handled the situation (great cust. service) and I'm back at full strength, no errors either stick now, rock solid performance. Maybe I should look to overclock.
- Other Thoughts: Test memory thoroughly, I spent 2 weeks messing with this new set up and almost gave up, finally ran Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool on each stick separately, finding hardware failure. It CAN happen, and does at times. Do your homework.
