It is indeed active

SAPPHIRE 100924 Active DisplayPort to DVI-I Adapter
SAPPHIRE 100924 Active DisplayPort to DVI-I Adapter

Pros: Cheap, strong build quality, is active, isn't bulky, and doesn't require its own power!

Cons: None at all

Overall Review: I've had this adapter along with their Mini-DisplayPort > DVI active adapter and both of them work without fail. Yes, it is active! This is also very cheap compared to some of the outrageously priced ones out there, and this still feels super solid and reliable. No glitches, no finicking, it just works.

Quick, snappy, and much smoother drivers for three screens than AMD

EVGA Superclocked, Signature 2 02G-P4-2687-KR GeForce GTX 680 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
EVGA Superclocked, Signature 2 02G-P4-2687-KR GeForce GTX 680 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Pros: Fast enough to play just about any game maxed at 60fps Looks great Runs cool Reliable and intuitive drivers

Cons: The backplate that I ordered for it fits, but the screws that came with it do not. I'm using EVGA's GTX 680 backplate, which is supposed to work with this, but the screws that come with the backplate are meant for boards with reference coolers. I did manage to get the backplate on, though, by using the four spring loaded screws that secure the cooler on this card originally. This lets the backplate stay secured on the card, but not as well as I'd liked, because the smaller holes cannot be secured down with smaller screws since the cooler is only secured with the four spring loaded screws and nothing else.

Overall Review: I felt like the backplate issue wasn't as much of an issue as it was an inconvenience. I don't think it was worth taking one point off just because I can't use the screws that came with the backplate. Idle the GPU runs at 30C Full load, it runs at 71C with a custom fan profile w/ PrecisionX on Furmark. Max fan speed was 60%. I tried this card at 100% fan speed on Furmark, and I got max temps of 62C. I upgraded for a pair of 6950's and the jump was pretty large. Performance-wise, this 680 is much more reliable and in many cases performed better. The big difference were drivers, though. With AMD I had to use Hydravision to get the Windows snap to work, and even then I was forced to use the maximize button and I had to fiddle with it every time on startup. With Nvidia, it just worked out of the box, no questions asked. The setup is also much more intuitive with Nvidia, involving a wizard rather than AMD's various menus. It just seemed like my AMD setup always felt more "hack" and with Nvidia, it just worked.

Very easy to activate

NVIDIA Gift PC Game Assassin's Creed 3
NVIDIA Gift PC Game Assassin's Creed 3

Pros: Free, great game. I'm not sure what everybody's talking about when they complain about activating. When I activated my key, it gave me a redemption key on Ubisoft's store, then I used that to "purchase" AC3 for $0.00, and then I installed everything just as I would if I had bought the game with a hard copy.

Cons: None. Either Ubi has fixed the issue or some of the people reviewing don't know how to redeem product keys properly.

Overall Review: Good game, ok port. I feel like the UI wasn't fleshed out well enough for mouse/keyboard. Sometimes mouse will work on the UI when keyboard doesn't and vice-versa. I found myself struggling to get through the UI sometimes, but overall it's okay. For the most part, the UI simply looks like a console UI.

Works, but a little bit glitchy

Kaybles 6ft Model DVI-DD-6MF Black 6 ft. M-F Premium DVI Digital Dual-Link Extension Cable with Ferrites M/F 6 feet - OEM

Pros: VERY cheap, descent quality overall.

Cons: I found mine giving me some green pixels where there were supposed to be black at first. I blew on the connector and swapped the three that I got with different monitors and everything seemed to work perfectly after that.

Overall Review: The glitch may have been caused by a dirty connector, but I am not entirely sure. If you need affordable cables, these are good. I am rating it 4 starts because the glitch only happened when I first got the cables, they have no issues after the fact.

Solid as a rock, packed with features

ASUS Maximus V FORMULA LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS Maximus V FORMULA LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Just about everything. It's a fantastic board and looks great in person. I've been looking towards making my build have a color theme and this works incredibly well for my red/white/black theme. Capacitors, VRM's, etc all are extremely high quality and blend in with the board well. BIOS also has all the OCing features you would ever need, even though IB isn't that great at OCing. I only got mine to 4.2 stable, even if i could've gotten to 4.4 or even 4.5 if i wanted higher temps... The lit border that separates the integrated sound card and the glowing ROG logo both look spectacular.

Cons: I have my PC in my room, which i turn off completely every night. After I turn it off, the mobo lights stay on. This includes the lit sound card border, the ROG logo, plus the start/reset button on the top right of it. The start button just so happens to have a really bright white LED that lights up part of my wall slightly when I sleep. Luckily my computer faces away from me and is on the other side of the room, otherwise this may upset some people and force them to put paper over their beautiful PC!

Overall Review: i5 3570k @ 4.2 w/ Antec Kuhler 620 This mobo 8gb RAM @ 2000mhz (rated) Corsair 60gb SSD Several HDD's Radeon 6950 2gb unlocked shaders (soon to be 680!) etc. etc. etc. Get this mobo! It's extremely nice and comes in great packaging as well.
