Pros: I survived some defective computer parts. Had to reinstall windows 7 from scratch. Nice feeling knowing this OS won't fail you. One of the best pieces of software I have ever used. I don't know what OS will replace it in overall superiority, privacy? But for now, long live Win7!
Cons: Download DOS box to keep running older PC games like Roller Coaster Tycoon 1, Torrin's Passage or rebuy them digitally for a few dollars.
Overall Review: There are sites that can tell you which specific updates you can uninstall that spy on you. Luckily it's only 5-6 of them, and it doesn't in anyway affect you performance to remove them. Win7 is all about having those options.
P8Z77-V LK
Pros: It only randomly freezes a few times a week. Usually only once in the day. Because of that I went a long time not knowing it was the board.
Cons: It freezes randomly. As far as I can tell it's something that activates in the software that causes the crash. ASUS was aware of the problem and offered a BIOS update on the site. It corrects a lot of the problems. But it was discontinued in 2014. I feel whatever was the cause, made them give up and rush out another model. I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU BUY THIS MODEL! Do not RMA it! The whole line is defective.
Overall Review: If anyone has a Intel i-7 3770 LGA 1155 mobo that doesn't crash, please let me know.
Pros: Runs pretty quiet. Moves a lot of air. Keeps case very cool. Will buy again in the future.
Cons: Buy a dust filter. This thing collects dust
Overall Review: I thought the LED on the fan died. It was the PSU. So this fan was awesome for another reason. It helped me determine I had a power supply issue. Replaced the PSU. Light is on in case again, no crashes, life is good.
Pros: Quality monitor. Runs cool to the touch, colors look great. Only downside is LEDs are bright. But that's a knock against LEDs in general. You can crank down the brightness and it's not an issue. I liked this monitor so much I bought a second one.
Cons: One star off for it getting winged in shipping. 1 pixel light in back is out, giving it a black smudge near the top of the screen. A few years went by before realizing. I considered an RMA, but there's a local spot that has the light diode sheet, because it's a common size. Was cheaper with this method.
Overall Review: Run a solid white screen and look for errors. Then rinse repeat with Red, Green, Blue, Yellow. They are packing more and more pixels on these screens, a single broken dot is getting pretty hard to notice.
Pros: It mostly wasn't an issue the first year. But over time it got worse. In this case it could have fried my components. But it didn't. So a huge pro there. Whatever was wrong with it, the fail safe inside worked.
Cons: I was getting random black screen lock ups. I replaced my RAM, Mobo, and even swapped HDDs. Eventually I realized it was the PSU when I changed some of the cords, I wasn't getting fan errors anymore. The 2nd power port for the GPU was completely broken, and my theory is the cord that went to the top part of the motherboard, that area was broken inside. I got a EVGA replacement. No more crashes. I wish I had realized it sooner. Crashes went from bi-weekly to daily over 2 years. Either a broken capacitor or rail(s).
Overall Review: I do not like their RMA process. Unlike Corsair it's very accusing, with $25 penalty fee if they /wink don't find a problem. I have to cover shipping. All and all it's almost cheaper to just buy a new one, and that's never a good thing. When my PSU died with Corsair the replacement is still working to this day. I have had awful luck with motherboards and PSUs over the past 5 years.
Pros: It runs pretty good. I never once felt the need to over clock. Everything from rendering to gaming, this CPU does the job in spades. Some of the high end boards offer overclocking ram. Didn't have any issues.
Cons: None.
