Very nice server case for the price

Pros: Great build quality. Very solid. Has everything you need for a basic rackmount server. Top slides off very smooth. Good stable PSU built-in. Reasonably good airflow. Looks nice - quality paint, cool curved doors. Runs a 24 core AMD server with no problems.

Cons: Nitpicking but: PSU is 24+8+4 not 24+8+8, so you will need an adapter to get enough power to the second CPU. 380 Watt PSU may not be enough if you are running a lot of devices - so keep that in mind. The built-in mounting holes did not match 2 of the holes on my motherboard.

Overall Review: I'd buy another if I needed it.

Unstable Board - Very Poor Support

ASUS KGPE-D16 SSI EEB Server Motherboard
ASUS KGPE-D16 SSI EEB Server Motherboard

Pros: Holds a ton of memory Very fast Lots of features

Cons: Very unstable - reboots frequently Asus support - complete waste of time

Overall Review: First board: Powered it up - burning electronics smell - no POST. Tried to RMA it back to Asus. They wasted my time for over two weeks. You have to fax them a *paper* form for RMA. They sent the different wrong RMA forms. They cannot confirm if they received your fax - they just tell you to wait 3 days for "approval" - that never comes. Cannot tell when RMA will be processed. #1 thing Asus support could have done to save me time and aggravation: refuse my RMA. If your RMA process is broken - just don't waste my time. Just tell me "Sorry our RMA process doesn't work." RMA'd board back to NewEgg - got RMA number same day - with prepaid shipping label! New board in 3 days. Thanks NewEgg! Second board: Have the second board for a week now. It reboots all the time. My setup: 2x Opteron 6344's 4x Wintec 16GB DDR3 1600 ECC Registered 1.35v 1 SSD disk, server PSU and case, big chip coolers. A great server when its running. Compiles GCC unbelievably fast. But... it won't stay up more than 5 minutes without reboot. If I run just a memory test - it runs like a champ for hours - at 100% cpu - CPU's get hot - but it runs fine for hours. If I try to run any linux ( tried Ubuntu, Redhat etc. ) crashes every few minutes. If I turn off CPU #2 - it runs great. If I remove 2 sticks of memor, and run 2 cpus - it will run maybe 12 hours. Tried a million bios settings - different ECC settings, different ACPI etc. Some settings are more stable than others. From reviews I suspect that this board works if you have 1333 memory and 6200 level cpus. And that it will run a single 6300 cpu. But it won't run dual 6300's and 1600 DDR3 memory. I'll update this if I get it to work - but so far no luck. And yes - it has 3001 bios, I jumpered the ram to 1.35v. This board was meant to replace an older Asus board that runs great.
