Most Critical Review

Decent monitor, lousy customer service

LG 34UM95-P Black 34" Class QHD UltraWide LED Backlight LCD Monitor IPS Panel 320 cd/m2 DFC 5,000,000:1(1000:1), Dual HDMI / Dual ThunderBolt ports
LG 34UM95-P Black 34" Class QHD UltraWide LED Backlight LCD Monitor IPS Panel 320 cd/m2 DFC 5,000,000:1(1000:1), Dual HDMI / Dual ThunderBolt ports

Pros: 4,953,600 pixel real estate is glorious for working in Flash CC, Adobe Premiere Pro (Full HD at 1x scale with palettes open). The refresh rate is better than the 8ms Dell Ultrasharp 2408wfp I've been using for six years. Wider screen is also helpful for side-by-side coding and keeping webpages open while developing.

Cons: The color reproduction isn't quite as nice or smooth as the Dell Ultrasharp 2408wfp that I've been using for six years. During ownership of the monitor the left and right halves of the screen would lag occasionally giving a "tear" down the middle of the screen. It didn't happen frequently so I figured I'd live with it. 8 months in and the monitor says "out of range" or only shows the left half, the right half is completely garbled using display port. (tested with different cable and different computer, same problem exists, it's definitely the monitor) After calling LG early monday morning they said the monitor can not be shipped back for repair, they only offer "in-home" repair for this model. I should get a call back in 24 - 48 hours from their "Scheduling Team". Wednesday afternoon rolls around with no contact so I call back asking if there's been any progress. They said it would now take 3-5 business days to find a repair center. After some digging they said the closest repair center is 3 hours drive away and they reclined to come repair the monitor so LG had to look elsewhere. The following Monday, 1 full week after I originally call about the dead monitor, I still haven't received any contact from LG so I call again. They said they will respond within 24 hours because... reasons. I lay into them and complain about the ridiculous deadline shifting and that I still have the original packaging for the monitor and could easily ship it to a center, but LG refused and then hung up on me. I called back fifteen minutes later and they "magically" found a local repair shop that said they'd look at it and that the repair shop would contact me within 24 hours to set up an in-home appointment. I called the local place and let them know that they didn't need to clarify the problems I was having with the monitor. Good thing too, because the LG rep did a terrible job of describing the problem to the repair shop. The guy said he just needed to get the letter of authorization from LG to do the work before he could begin which normally takes 24 hours. Now onto Tuesday, no call from repair shop, so I call LG and they said they had sent the authorization but the shop probably hasn't received it yet because they... sent it through the post office mail. Yes, LG, let's make this process last even longer please. At this point it's going to take another day or two for the letter to come through, a day or two to look at the monitor, probably a week for replacement parts, and who knows what else. I'm guessing I'll be down for two - three weeks because of this.

Overall Review: I wish there were two display ports available as inputs so I'd be able to hook up my other computer with something better than hdmi which only reaches 50hz at 3440x1440 resolution. I also would like to have a dedicated input switch button rather than having to dig through the on-screen menus. As the title says, it's an alright monitor, but LG's customer service is deplorable. If it takes them a week to sit on my case beyond the initial call to their normal service center, then ONLY after I keep asking them what's going on that they move their butts and actually call around, it's obvious they don't care about me as a customer. Your mileage may vary, but I don't want to have to babysit my support cases. For as much as this monitor cost, LG should have the care to really support it.

Worked really well, until it died.

Pros: Easy to install, very quiet, low vibration, kept cpu extrememly cool.

Cons: About 6 months after the 1 year warranty expired, the pump stopped working. My BIOS warned me that the CPU fan was no longer working. To its credit, the heatsink did do a good job of keeping the cpu below 50°C under normal load for a while. Playing games, however, caused temperatures to peak around 78°C which is a little warm for my tastes.

Overall Review: Installation on my ASUS Sabertooth z77 was pretty easy. The hardest part was figuring out which holes on the brace to use and to fit the fans/radiator into my Raidmax Smilodon case. It ran really quietly and only had to clear dust from the radiator fins a couple of times. Overall a great product, I just wish it lasted longer.
