Most Favorable Review

Price v. Performance

GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3P (rev. 2.0) AM3+/AM3 AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3P (rev. 2.0) AM3+/AM3 AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: - Great price versus performance - A good upgrade board if you have built a system on a budget - SATA and USB ports make it a worth while entry level home server - Heat managed well (replaced northbridge heat sink with an all copper alternative) - Raid tools are simple to set use

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: This board is being used in an overkill HTPC setup (front and back end)/NAS/game server and has run flawlessly for nearly a year straight. After about 8 months of reliable usage, a duplicate board was used in a medium grade gaming computer to great success.

Fractal Design Node 605 Black Aluminum/Steel ATX HTPC/Media Center Computer Case
Fractal Design Node 605 Black Aluminum/Steel ATX HTPC/Media Center Computer Case

Pros: - Quiet (seemingly engineered for that purpose) - Sleek exterior appearance - Sturdy build and fairly well engineered - Good directional air flow design - One of few ATX HTPC case options

Cons: - Poor cable routing/management options, impedes airflow - Drive mounting becomes tedious in cable management with all drive bays occupied

Worth the price

SanDisk 2.5" 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SDSSDP-128G-G25
SanDisk 2.5" 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SDSSDP-128G-G25

Pros: Inexpensive (at the time, cheapest SSD in it's class) Provided an expected performance boost No head aches, just works.

Cons: The plastic shell/casing which the drive is surrounded is fragile and may crack from the threaded screw holes to the corner of the drive. This happened to 3x drives I've purchased. Industrial velcro mounting solves the problem.

MSI 760GMA-P34 (FX) AM3+ AMD 760G SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
MSI 760GMA-P34 (FX) AM3+ AMD 760G SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Great board, especially for the feature v. price point. No issues with 100% up time for nearly 4 months. Great to HTPC use.

Cons: SATA III ports don't support RAID, only the SATA II. Replacing the motherboard with something that will.
