HooToo HT-UH004 SuperSpeed USB 3.0 7-Port Hub + 1-Port 5V/2A Charging Port, Include 5V/4A Power adapter and USB 3.0 Cable
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: Charge port.

Cons: It says USB 3 but the throughput from my USB 3 hard drive is only half that as compared to when the HD is connected directly to the computer. It's faster than USB 2 but definately not USB 3 in performance.

If manufacturers were honest with consumers could they stay in business?

Tripp Lite USB 3.0 Charging Hub - 7 x USB3.0, 1 x Charging iPad2

1 out of 5 eggs Careful... 09/19/2013

This review is from: Tripp Lite USB 3.0 Charging Hub - 7 x USB3.0, 1 x Charging iPad2

Pros: charging port for smartphone

Cons: Careful. This unit looks identical to the HooToo hub that I purchased. While it says USB 3 and is compatible, my USB 3 hard drive runs at half the throughput when connected to my HooToo device compared to directly connected to the computer. It's faster than USB 2 but not USB 3 speeds.

Vantec NexStar 3 3.5
  • neweggOwned For: more than 1 year

Pros: Pretty

Cons: They don't last. I have three of these devices. On one the LED works for about 5 minutes and then goes out. This occured fairly soon after I bought it. Another one just died the other day. The HD was making a horrible noise so I switched it with another HD. That HD didn't seem to work so I connected the original HD to a different device and it came back to life.

Other Thoughts: Manufacturers like to brag that they have a failure rate of less than one percent while their products are under warranty but the customer reviews show otherwise. This is true with many products, not just hard drive enclosures. Are manufacturers really proud of the garbage they build?
