Hardy systems
Pros: I know these systems well. quite the lab mule, small server, workstation [add GPU of choice], etc. Really well made, nice size. I prefer now the later models for the chipset/processor etc but frankly the later mechanical design is not quite as bombproof as these older ones. in my experience quality control at HP was tight at this point in their life
Cons: old tech at this point.
Overall Review: only costs a few more bucks to get the Core 2's or later
Could have been swell
Pros: As others note, good build quality, above average for this grade. Screen/display is good, not great but appropriate for the cost point. Snappy performance - would have loved to see 4.2 running on this hardware as it is a little faster overall. Touch interface is positive - no issues at all with touch tracking
Cons: I read a lot of reviews on this unit and its analogs and assumed that it was a "hit or miss" risk as bad ones get shipped out on a regular if infrequent basis. The unit I received has a defective micro-SD retention latch. It will not lock. Tried different micro cards to make sure it was not a card anomaly. the latch simply fails.
Overall Review: I hit the android forums a good bit. most of the third-tier tablets of this ilk are shoddy. this one could be a winner although its mostly positive rep [see reviews on ammaazonn also] seems to be unique among AGPTek's other models. The whole segment needs some supplier emerge as the "Go To" for cost-effective generic 'droid tablets. No winner yet appears.
Pretty good - midterm rating
Pros: Bridging works. Decent range for the price. Never drops
Cons: really none at the price originally paid. if >30 bucks, pick something 300 speed.
Overall Review: I have this as a bridge to a csco E1200 which is ok but not the greatest thing to be trying to repeat, but the Rosewill gets it done. repeats, serves the cabled HTPC, BDP, HDTV, and ap mode works great. its been up for a long time with no degradation, no drops.
Does what other cheapos cannot
Pros: Repeater mode can actually work. I'm a bit shocked. Seems to have good range. Decent feature set for the experienced, not so much for the novice
Cons: Instructions for Repeater and Bridge modes [latest firmware] are lacking critical info so one needs some experience to get it right. Runs very hot - I don't expect it to have a long life. needs a fan or something
Overall Review: I have a linksys E1200 that can only do one job but does it pretty well [dd-wrt for this unit is flawed. I use the stock/latest firmware]. so its my primary AP. I lost a WRT-54GL that had been bridged, and served lab mule, entertainment, etc. tried to find other devices with good bridge or repeater and none to date until this one. Took several tries but finally got the RNX to work as Repeater. both wired and wifi clients happy now but its only been up a half day. if anyone interested, I documented what it took to make work. I'll post on a_zn also so folks can inquire
Heckuva bang for the buck
Pros: First, thanks to whoever is "N/A" for the feedback on WIMAX. I wanted to try it with Verizon but had not looked into driver support etc. Still to be done. My daily driver is a thinkpad x120e so its a good comparison to the little Dell. I was surprised at the crispness of the iM101Z display - lots of bright headroom also. Speakers great/exceptional in this size. Batt life about 6.5 hrs out of the box. Ditto what other said re: video: uninstall the device, use Intel package to reinstall the right drivers. HDMI sync HDCP will then work. Nice keyboard imo
Cons: Considering price the only con is it needs RAM but RAM is cheap. The glossy lid will look horrid in a few months, but I'll bet its still running like a champ. I prefer the thinkpad, but this is a good unit.
Overall Review: Go to 8GB. The intel HDMI implementation is testy, but with the latest drivers from Intel is workable with modern HDTV/Mon's. If no sync, leave the cable attached and cycle power on the Monitor.
Nice for short range
Pros: No issues in setup. Updated firmware easily. User controls are plain, easy to understand. Setting security pain-free, friendly to several different types of adapters [I've used at least 5 different pc wifi devices and two droid handsets]. Fast. I'm pulling well over 2x the speed I have with the wr54g's running ddwrt
Cons: Just does not have the power it should. my home is only about 120 ft corner to corner, one level, and this loses coverage in some spots. very affected by walls, objects. compared to the venerable wr54g/gl's I have, its a midget. it is fast, however... Also as of this writing the DD-WRT port to this device is lacking. does not achieve full "N" speed.
Overall Review: For a small space its terrific. not for me unfortunately
