ASUS EAH4870 DK/HTDI/1GD5 Radeon HD 4870 Dark Knight 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card
ASUS EAH4870 DK/HTDI/1GD5 Radeon HD 4870 Dark Knight 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card

Pros: 58c max 44c idle more than double the FPS of my 3870 went from 45FPS to 85FPS in COD4 at 1900x1200 4AA 16AF and rest maxed runs very cool, it's common for 4800 series to hit 80c+ easy. Asus has other software bundled with this that could be usefull(i haven't tryed it out yet) - software for recording and STREAMING video game play over the internet so other can watch you came with leather mouse pad, adapters. All ports on external side had covers

Cons: takes 2 6pin power connectors, didn't have 2 cards in the box ;)

Overall Review: i noticed the top version of the 4870s from asus have 815core and 925mem clocks... so thats where mine is being stable at :) System:FX62 2.88ghz, DFI lanparty DK m2rs, 2x1GB 1150mhz OCZ reaper @ 960mhz 4-4-4-12, 2 400gb raid 0, Creative Fatal1ty Champion, 700W TABS tagan ITZ

Major flaw. easy fix

BIOSTAR TA970 Ver. 5.3 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
BIOSTAR TA970 Ver. 5.3 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Pros: Worked great for a few days!. Then the bad symptoms came and required a fix. Since then, It's been very stable and works well.

Cons: The bios has an odd configuration. It resembled the older style, but the menu options and features are named a little bit odd. enabling the overclocking was a little cumbersome.

Overall Review: I suffered from the micro stuttering, slow loading, almost freezing, etc. I wasn't able to pull temps from components (didn't try to hard though). I went with the finger method. Simply touching the heat sink. On the first day, the north bridge nearly burned me. Extremely hot. After a few days, the entire system got very slow. I touched the heat sink, but it wasn't warm at all. I pulled the board and removed the north bridge heat sink. It had a very very tacky bubble gum colored thermal adhesive. There was also 2 rubber spacers used to level out the heat sink. These spacers are just high enough that the heat sink looses good contact with the north bridge. After cleaning the adhesive off and removing the spacers.. It's been running very smooth. I repeated the same for the south bridge. It didn't contain any spacers and should be sufficient the way it is. This board does have a uefi compatible bios. Using an RX 480 is fine.

ASRock A785GXH/128M AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Box states that it has AOD and ACC support; including unlocking cores on sempron 140m phenom 2 550be, phenom 2 x3 710/720 be, unlocks the L3 cache onthe phenom 2 805/810. 8pin power connector 140w CPU support 2600mhz FSB update bios without entering dos or windows hybrid crossfireX instant boot - boot 10 times faster(claims) Overclock DNA - share your OC settings profile...?

Cons: The computer im upgrading is currently locked in my brothers house and i don't have a key:( not all the caps are solid

Overall Review: I've got a processor to test overclocking on, its a 1.8ghz athlon 64. On an ASUS M4A78L-M, i was able to hit 2.7ghz. Lets see how this compares:)

Western Digital WD Green WD10EADS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: It's a TB, was reliable. Can be fixed with a hammer

Cons: Cant withstand a fall from 2ft verywell. But it is a HDD.

Overall Review: Friend gave it to me after dropping his external with it in it. Would disconnect randomly(attached directly via sata at this point) speeds no faster than 150KBs... Hit it with a hammer and it works fine now lol. friend broke pins off the connector so he could try it with esata - so no possible RMA..hammer is my friend lol Seemed like the arm in it was all screwy, figured it was going in the trash. Ran WD diagnostic tools on it, tried spin right, hitachie diagnostic tools, acronis, nothing worked. Tapped each side with a hammer. - works great again. copied 16.4GB of data in the time it took to write this review(from drive to my raid)

ASUS M4A785-M AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
ASUS M4A785-M AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Nice layout, plent of sataports, supports an old am2 athlon 3200+ (orleans core) just fine. This processor is not listed on the website at all. ACC is avaliable to unlock other cores for those of you into that ;)

Cons: The memory i used will not post in dual channel and must have 1 stick in the first blue slot, the other in the first black. It's older stuff but is supported in the manual. Kingston 667mhz 512mb cas 5 1.8v sticks. The manual did not have post codes listed anywhere in it. but did state to use blue slots. i took an egg off for the memory issues. No dvi to vga adapters for it, physicaly not possible. This is nothing new for onboard dvi, so no dual VGA monitor support.

Overall Review: Building a machine for friend with old parts and new board. showed him how stable the gpu was.. pushed to 750mhz no problems :) 60GB maxtor IDE, CD Rom drive IDE, 2x 512mb Kingston 667mhz, Athlon 3200+ 2ghz, Zalman CNPS 7500, a crummy 300w PSU Friend plans on upgradding to a phenom 550 and to unlock cores:-D GO ASUS!

For a Budget system

Broadway Com Corp 937PK-BLACK Steel Computer Case Okia ATX 420W Power Supply
Broadway Com Corp 937PK-BLACK Steel Computer Case Okia ATX 420W Power Supply

Pros: It's a case, It works. It looks decent. It's lightweight

Cons: It's Extreamly flimsy. Had 1 sharp edge. The IO Panel was a pain in the rump to get off(had to wigle it back and forth till it broke off).

Overall Review: I would use this case again. Used 2 of them in 2 DVR systems. Looks nice. Hard to say how well it handles sound. The PSU is quiet and I used sempron 140s. - extreamly quiet but only the CPU fan and the PSU fan and a HDD..
