ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

5 out of 5 eggs ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard 07/07/2014

This review is from: ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Very good looking board with a good color scheme
very solid company to deal with
Very competitive price for a budget to mid range build
Every port you could want even M.2. card support and has Killer NIC

Cons: Not really a con but does not have SLI support... at this price point most people are not looking to SLI anyway.
If I was nit picking I would have to mention the fan header placement like other have mentioned but it wasn't a problem for me because I use a fan controller

Other Thoughts: So my first thoughts of this board is it feels very solid for what I thought was going to be a budget board. My second thoughts were it looks pretty sweet especially if you are looking to do the very popular red and black theme. I have always trusted Asrock and had the Z77 Fatal1ty with a 2600k for about 2 years and was happy with it. This board reminds me of that one just a little newer with a smoother bios. Over clocking is easy and I OCed a 4770k to 4.6 GHz stable with this board. I also put a GTX 780 Classified and I was maxing out BF4 @ 1440p. Most people that buy this board probably aren't in the price range of the hardware I put in it but it was a very good test of what this board can do. You throw a 200 dollar CPU and a 300 dollar GPU and 8GB of memory in this board and you are gaming like a champ. I did test an HD 7950 and a R9 290x separately with this board and they both worked flawlessly. The onboard sound is about average as most are and everything else just worked. So bottom line is if your are building a low to mid range single GPU rig this motherboard is definitely worth a look. In fact you would be hard pressed to find a better board for the price.

SteelSeries 9H Gaming Headset

4 out of 5 eggs SteelSeries 9H Gaming Headset 06/07/2014

This review is from: SteelSeries 9H Gaming Headset

Pros: very decent sound quality
light weight
easy to wear (comfortable)
very decent sound quality (for gaming)
braided cables
volume control on the headset cord
mic sounds good

Cons: probably should be in a little lower price range.
USB sound card is kind of worthless
not very loud (with out a good sound card and amp)
ears get sweaty from leather after a while of gaming

Other Thoughts: After spending a little time with these headsets I give them a 4 out of 5. Over all these are good headset for gaming and very comparable to my A40s as far as the sound goes. With them hooked up to the "sound card" that comes with it the volume leaves something to be desired. I hooked them up to my ZX sound card with the amp that came with them and it is a night and day difference. So much that it is hard to tell the difference between these and my A40s that I use on a daily basis. They have very good stereo sound stage and 3d positioning in my FPS games sounds very good. If you are going to listen to music then its best you use an EQ to tune them to your liking because these are set up for gaming right out of the box. So real world sounds in game sound great and has a great deep bass for explosions, that's why you will probably have to tuned them differently for music playback. The metal headband and metal hinges feels like a fairly durable construction and they feel fairly light weight. Over they are a very decent headset for all around listening as long as your willing to EQ them for music. I personally feel they should be in a slightly lower price range but that just me being cheap:-)

Netgear EX6200 AC1200 High Power 700mW Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender – Desktop with 5 Ports
  • eggxpert iconEggXpert
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: * Great performance with great range
* Aesthetics are clean and sleek looking
* Packaging is simple and efficient
* Very competitive pricing
* Simple guide to follow and easy for begginers
* Easy to navigate through software
* Over all easy setup

Cons: No major cons maybe just the some what bulky power adapter and could take up more than one plug in on your power strip/ surge protector but definitely not a deal breaker.

Other Thoughts: I put this in a part of my house where my home routers wifi had a hard time reaching. The Netgear EX6200 had no problem finding my routers signal and set up was a breeze. Like one other reviewer said, "what's the hitch?" I basically left it at the default settings and let it roll like that for a couple weeks. I got curious and starting messing with things because I wanted to transfer all my pictures from my phone to my home server. So i tried the Fastlane option and the transfer speed seemed to speed up quite a bit. I realized it no longer was using 5GHz channels which I am fine with because the performance was very acceptable. I now have very good wifi coverage through my entire house and everyone is "happy happy happy " :-)
