4 out of 5 eggs pretty good for the price 03/04/2012

This review is from: BIOSTAR TZ68A+ LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Good price and seem pretty solid so far (knock on wood). bought this board for a budget build with an i5-2500K and it does what it is supposed to.

The PCI-e 2.0 X16 slots are nicely spaced apart such that there would be plenty of room between two graphics cards if I ever decide to do an SLI setup.

The bundled SATA cables seem to be of good quality with metal retaining clips.

Cons: As mentioned by others, this board is not fully ATX . It is narrower by about 0.5" than the 9.6" ATX spec. So, the front side edge mounting holes are about 1.5" away from the standoffs. No big deal if your case can accommodate the different standoff location. But in my situation, my old Antec case does not have that option. I suppose I could just get some plastic standoffs.

The manual that came in the box leaves a lot to be desired in terms of BIOS settings. But, there is a downloadable manual from the Biostar site that deals only with the BIOS. Not a great one but workable.

After all that, I'm only docking the board 1 star (i probably should be docking 2, but I'm feeling generous)

Other Thoughts: After getting the build up and running: BIOS set, drivers/OS installed, etc. I noticed that there was a device in the Device Manager that had big question mark on it. It just said, "PCI Simple Communications Controller". After a bit of research, I found out that it was Intel's Management Engine, and the drivers for it were somehow not included in the chipset drivers. I don't know if that was Intel's or Biostar's fault. Either way, I just downloaded the drivers from Intel, installed it, now all is good.

ASUS VW246H Glossy Black 24

Pros: great colors, built in audio (great for freeing up desk space), tilt adjustment, but...

Cons: either it developed a stuck pixel or it was there the whole time I just never noticed it, just one but it near dead center. I don't notice it when gaming, but when working on text or anything with a white background, it stick out like a sore thumb-as small as the pixel is. the audio, great idea if you are low on desk space, but the sound quality was insufficient for me whether gaming or listening to music... no height adjustment

Other Thoughts: even with all the cons, I'm still considering getting another one...
