AMD FX-6100
Pros: No issues with Ubuntu 12.04 and 8 G of ram. Great CPU at a very resonable price. I did not purchase at NewEgg, as the retailer had it on sale for $120 and then included a motherboard. I built a system, using mostly New Egg purchased components around this chip for under $250. Very fast and reliable.
Cons: None - a six core processor with 8 gigabytes of ram for about $100. I can't see how anyone would have a con with that deal.
Overall Review: I have not overclocked it as I have no reason to so so. Just fast, reliable and very inexpensive.
Awful
Pros: It acts as a hub
Cons: I have had nothing but major issues trying to make the dir 655 work - my laptop, W-7, works but trying for hours to hook to my wireless printer and wireless player has been a nightmare. Sometimes I can get it to work but then it stops and requires more fiddling. I replaced a linksys G wireless that worked flawlessly but I thought I needed more range and a faster connection for HD. The DRI-655 range is awful much less than the linksys G and often needs to be reset to get anything. Still unable to receive HD even with the router 20 feet from the player. The connection is seldom over three bars and this is at the most 20 feet
Overall Review: I will never purchase another D-Link product again - it is that terrible. Unfortunately I did not buy it from NewEgg so I can't return it. Usually I buy from NewEgg and in this case I learned my lesson.
Best Price - Great Performance
Pros: I received this router as a gift two months ago. Was doubtful as the price was low. Set it up and it worked. My Roku is 75 feet away through 4 walls and when streaming video is HD - I consistently receive HD signals, wirelessly. Before it was hit and miss. The router has not been off since. Never required a reboot. Simple set up. I use Ubuntu 12.04, Windows7, Roku, wireless blue ray and Obi 100 - no issues I use Ubuntu 12.04, Windows 7, blue ray wireless, and Roku. All work great.
Cons: None - maybe the price is too low and that could keep people from considering this router.
Overall Review: For a home wireless system, there is no need to purchase a more expensive wireless router. Any concern about a warranty is to me academic, as how much would you spend to return a $20 item? My son purchases wireless routers for employees. He is a fan of TP-LINK routers and now that is the only brand he buys as none have failed. The best bang for the buck by a wide margin.
It Works
Pros: I use the digital cable (orange plug) from a TV to the converter and then the RCA to the CD input plugs on an old amp. The TV is also connected to a foxcomm computer. I am able to stream Pandora and streaming radio to my old system. I am using Ubuntu 12.04.
Cons: Might be not be a con and it is not for me, but when the TV mode is selected all I get from my old system is a low hum. But I have not tried other combinations as my desire is to listen to music from Pandora and streaming radio.
Overall Review: I am new to the new audio so I made this purchase on the fly. It works well - but the world has changed and audio is more complex - we could use some help trying to understand the new digital audio connections.
Second Thoughts
Pros: Working much better. I reformatted the drive to NTFS and the drive works with Linux (Ubuntu 12.04) and Win 7 both 64 bit. In both cases, the respective computers are fairly new builds so maybe that is the reason the transfer download speed is not an issue with me. It is fast enough for me - for large files, the transfer time provides an opportunity for a beer. So that can be a positive assuming you have good and cold beer available. If you want more speed, spend the money for 3.0. I will purchase more products from PNY. Looks and feels like a quality flash drive.PNY I did not include my nick name in the original review of three stars so it is N/A if you want to read it – why you should I have no idea.
Cons: None if the format is NTFS or if using Windows. ExFAT does not work for some reason with Ubuntu - it is a Microsoft thing.
Overall Review: I appreciated the reaction of PNY who asked to help to my previous review of three stars. The customer service both by Newegg and PNY is unusual in my experience. NewEgg, as always, is very responsive. I trust and buy a lot from NewEgg - I would rate this drive five stars if I had not encountered a file compatibility issue with Linux. I am thinking, however, that I might of caused the problem with the format in the first place.
Great Deal -
Pros: It works - used it to install Ubuntu 12.04 - quiet and fast drive Good brand and a low price - what more is needed
Cons: Screws were not included - but I knew that - no real Cons at all
