ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard

4 out of 5 eggs Good... and Bad 01/27/2014

This review is from: ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Still running after 4 years. Still running original AMD Phenom II X4 945. Upgraded memory a couple years ago. And added an SSD for running W7. For the most part it has done everything ive asked it to. Im not a gamer anymore, mostly productive stuff, yet sometimes high CPU productive stuff.

Cons: Something is wrong with the montherboard SATA connectors. I spent the first two months with BSODs every day or two. Tried lots of stuff but eventually figured out that I need to reseat the SATA cables once a month. So for the last four years I get a monthly set of BSODs that I then fix by reseating the SATA cables on the motherboard. I have replaced all cables and the problem continues. Maybe cheap connectors or bad alloys that get oxidized fast on the motherboard. Ive never had another motherboard do this. I live in the desert with constant low humidity. Sucks to have to take the case apart every month.

Other Thoughts: I regret buying it, but maybe ASUS boards are better now. This board lessened my ASUS brand loyalty.

Pros: Working great as an HTPC. Running XBMC most of the time, with Windows Media Center as needed to watch TV shows recorded on my MythTV backend. All video looks perfect except for Netflix. Wifi works perfect. Fits very nice on the back of my TV. Keyboard and mouse work good and are small and light. HDMI video and audio out work perfect.

idles at 10-15 watts and runs at 20-21 watts. LOW POWER!

Cons: no real support from asus for this thing yet.

Paid premium for Windows 7 just so i could use Netflix = lame.

Lots of ASUS bloatware to be removed.

Other Thoughts: Netflix works ~ok~. SD is fine. HD is terrible. Its my understanding that this is a Silverlight issue and not because of this box. When microsoft updates silverlight this is supposed to be better.

no system dvd included - so get a 16gb usb drive to backup the system restore partition.

3 out of 5 eggs Works Great, with a couple Big Flaws 07/19/2011

This review is from: IOGEAR GWU627 Universal Wifi Adapter for Internet Ready TV, Game Consoles & Ethernet-Enabled Devices

Pros: Quick and easy setup. Took 2 minutes total. Stable and fast network connection. small unit. power from usb. very handy.

Cons: 1. Unit has IP address that cant be changed. So you can only use one on network and you must use network prefix of
2. Device offers up wifi password through browser setup, so anybody on your LAN can read the wifi password.

NEEDs firmware update to fix these issues.
