this thing is good
Pros: very adaptable, very effective. I should have had this 10 years ago but I always denied myself. It is a huge option and even if they were expensive in the early 90's this thing is a builds dream. And know they are fair price. I actually built my own PWM controller from a heath kit the built a bus to connect it to. that was fun but it was sub standard and expensive and trying. This unit is all that and more, great result. Powering 9 Gelid Wings all silent until I need em.
Cons: the molex power connector was cheap (standard but cheap) and as those things go the connector ripped from the PCB upon plugging it in. It still works but once the build is done I may have to RMA.
Uncertain but look awesome
Pros: low and pretty with blue mobos
Cons: none yet, except the price drop since purchase.
Overall Review: I hate gaudy memory heat sinks. These on a blue board like MSI of GIGABYTE look great. I bought these for a gigabyte ud5 X79. I like blue much more than red and as I wanted to evaluate a low profile set for future builds these seemed a nice compomise. I haven't clocked them yet but was forced to set them at 1600 as the Giga X79 UD5 red them at 1866. During the install of raid 0 SSD to an X79 there are many things to contend with and I needed to eliminate the memory timing. G skill has really good memory modules as far as I can tell. Their binning process and markrting can be confusing. You can't go wrong buying there most popular stuff. In this case I wanted most popular with a different look. That cost more but in this build was worth it.
Like much more afdter a few weeks
Pros: As stated in my previous review this case opens up modding possibillities. Remove the front and back slide clips from the side panels, leaving only the middle one and this case becomes a joy to work with.
Cons: connectivity cables are not sleeved, back panel needs 1/4 inch more room
Overall Review: I love this case so much. When I got it I loved the size but the bad collors of the interior components were a let down. The theme is blac/red but I prefer blue/black. This would make the Enermax GT the obvious choice but glad I did this case instead. The fan Hubs are great and can be moved to the back of the moterboard(the pcb's need insulating). I put two gelid wing 140's in the front and the pacle to mount UV cold cathod on the front side of the drive cage is perfect. I am snipping out the steel mesh infront of the fan mounts, it is an easy task, and will do the same on the top vent.. The rosewill included fan are very good but the red LED on them is not good at all. That could be because of visual obstuction or angle of the LED's I don't know but the antec 200 has a much more pleasing stock effect for fan LED and I consider that the low end of popular cases the Corsair 500R uses fan lighting to good effect but I can make this case look much better with a little effort, so much room
It's been a long time...
Pros: I sit here and think about what a huge jump it was to get a 1366 system at the time (4 years ago). It was the most money I had spent on a system. But I loved the performance of the i7 that I had witnessed at work and knew I had to have one. the Xeon 5660's for example are still tops, same as the 980x still challenging ivybridge-e, This board has know been in 4 different cases just to keep the build demon at bay and while I have to use pcie 1x cards to get the needed usb 3 ports the fact that they are above the dual 6850's makes it so sweet. Love this board, so much that i've been shopping a 970 for it but they are still too much money so 920 at 3.8 is where it will have to stay. maybe three years when a 980 is $40 used this board will live on but I think I'll do a new build ivy bridge within 8 months, reports are they overclock great, but until then I'm happy with my P~8000 3dmark score a nothing right now really shows a comparative value.
Cons: the A version brought usb 3 and now that I have ssd maxiops in raid the lack of SATA3 but that was another generation so no fault assigned
Overall Review: only a dual proc BX board has been with me this long, so ther you go.
Good in Crossfire
Pros: as expected, powerful and benches as per crossfire review
Cons: no crossfire bridge, too loud, mail in rebate
Overall Review: I bought two of these and took two weeks to get the crossbridge. Once installed in a Corsiar 500r case they were just too loud. I Got two Accelero S1 Rev2 passive heatsinks to relpace the shroud/sink/fan and they run very nice now. (don't use the mounting spacers). Aside from the occasioanl trouble with sone games, this setup is great. Turn everything on full or ultra and just go, for $250 that seems a good deal. 10 consecutive runs of furmark (max) can push the top card passive cooling to mid 80 degrees. Gaming, the top card gets to just under 70 degrees. Browsing the top card is 50 degrees. Idle 36 for both. The overclock is 920/1000 taking, the memory clock to 1050 is slower in benches and is unstable at 1100.
