Watch for head park problem

WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: 3TB of space low energy consumption

Cons: Head park problem that can cause premature failure if not taken care of. Took off one start for this. Default value set by WD is idiotic.

Overall Review: I use these in my "Ubuntu Server" build that's on 24/7. I used idle3-tools on Linux to disable the head park timeout. Haven't had any problems in over a year, load cycle count still under 300. I buy all green and blue WD drives because they're cheaper and just make sure the head park problem is taken care of. Only had a problem with a WD that I didn't perform that action on, before I knew of the problem. If using Windows, then use WDIDLE3.EXE to solve the issue.

Avoid this board

EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: SLI

Cons: Motherboard RAID never worked right from the get go. First time it failed was about 2 days into my install destroying all my in depth windows setup I had spent the previous days on. Could never get it going again. RMA'd after much frustration.

Overall Review: Annoyed! grrr

mini-HDMI, antenna cable covers

Intel NUC BOXD34010WYKH1 Mini / Booksize Barebone System
Intel NUC BOXD34010WYKH1 Mini / Booksize Barebone System

Pros: Speed Size Newegg deal came with RAM Makes a great HTPC

Cons: Expensive once you add all your parts. Included directions are bad.

Overall Review: mini-HDMI port (type C) on back, not the original HDMI (type A) port. Make sure you have the right cable. If adding a WIFI card, the antenna cables inside have rubber boots over the connectors and are also taped. Remove the tape first, then slide the boots down, towards the source of the cables, not up and over the connectors. I accidentally pulled by connector off. I was able to re-crimp it back on. Also, you will need needle-nose pliers to hold the cable in place, and another tool (other needle-nose) to push the connector in. Everything is super tiny, take your time and try to use precision tools. I would recommend using wired ethernet if at all possible.

Good overall board

Foxconn H67S LGA 1155 Intel H67 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s Mini ITX Intel Motherboard
Foxconn H67S LGA 1155 Intel H67 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s Mini ITX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Compact Runs cool & quiet w stock intel fan in a very tight case SATA3 Used this in an HTPC build using Windows 7 ultimate. Great little board overall. I haven't had any problems with it.

Cons: No included SPDIF header Had issues when running the "install all" option on the drivers cd. Had to do them one at a time starting with the intel chipset first.

Overall Review: This board does have SPDIF (located right at the end of the PCI-E 16 slot next to the blue cap...zoom in on the picture to see it), but no included header. I built my own using an old RCA video (yellow) cable and a CD/DVD audio header cable I had left over from a previous build. Spliced the cables together, taped them up and it worked first try. Using stock intel fan, noisy when first starts up but then quiet even when streaming 1080p on a core i3.

Great board - Don't Hesitate

ABIT IP35 Pro LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
ABIT IP35 Pro LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Easy setup, easy overlock on a Q6600 (G0) on air...3.3GHz in an Antec900 case with all fans on low. 2GB of Crucial Ballistix DDR2-1066 RAM.

Cons: No SLI capability. Uguru software, overclock in BIOS and use other programs for monitoring, etc. I only use it to adjust CPU fan speed if I need to for gaming, encoding, etc. You need to install the Uguru software to get rid of the last unknown device in Windows device manager.

Overall Review: Not one problem with this board so far, would highly recommend.

Don't Hesitate

Western Digital Blue WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: 16MB buffer, SATA 3Gb interface, price Great drives, bought 2 for my gaming system You get a little noise from them, but they're not bad. Six months later and still cranking away with no problems.

Cons: None so far
