USB Portable External 3.5
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: Worked with seven of my computers of varying age and brand, with either Win 7 Home, Win 7 Pro, or Win 10 build 100130

Cons: Does not have New Disk Inserted function like ordinary diskette drives. Requires special procedure to read the files on the diskette on all but my Toshiba laptop from 2012. Plug in unit, wait for device to be installed (fairly fast, first time only), open Devices and Printers. right click on USB diskette, click Browse Files, click drive A: or B:, whichever pops up (I don't have any computers with a normal diskette drive installed). To read a different diskette, insert it and right click on the USB diskette as before. Only one of my computers actually showed the diskette drive in Windows Explorer,

Other Thoughts: I have no way to tell if my particular unit just has a defect which causes it to not notify the computer that the disk has been changed (or installed), but I did see a lot of reviews that said their unit didn't work at all, which is just what it looks like if you expect it to work like a standard diskette drive.

PENTAX K-50 (10894) Black 16.3 MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens

5 out of 5 eggs Surprising Performance (to occasional user) 05/24/2015

This review is from: PENTAX K-50 (10894) Black 16.3 MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens

Pros: Very fast and accurate autofocus in spot mode; smooth, low noise shutter action. Automatic capture mode has so far easily handled all the subjects and situations I have tried it on, even ones that didn't work with for previous cameras I have used. Image Stabilization managed to produce usable although slightly "misty" pictures (as seen on a 17" laptop full screen) in dim light using a 300mm (actual) lens hand-held; the camera adjusted the ISO to a much higher than normal value so as to use a high enough shutter speed to make it work. This is an excellent "point and shoot camera" with almost any other features needed for those impossible artistic shots.

Cons: A little too small for my large hands but I think I will get used to using it.

Other Thoughts: I bought my first Digital SLR about seven years ago after using it's film version happily for about seven years. It died after two years so I bought a high-end digital point and shoot camera instead that served me fairly well most of the time although limitations of the autofocus (no manual mode available) kept me from getting good closeups of flowers with the wind blowing and/or certain backgrounds. I have not had one picture with that problem with this camera. I don't take a lot of pictures now but have been doing it since 1960 where you had to know exactly how cameras worked in order to get good pictures.

StarTech SV211HDUA KVM Switch with Audio and Remote Switch – USB Powered

4 out of 5 eggs Sturdy construction, minor usage faults 12/19/2014

This review is from: StarTech SV211HDUA KVM Switch with Audio and Remote Switch – USB Powered

Pros: Very solid cables and connectors. very handy control switch can be located several feet away from actual switch box and computers.

Cons: When computers are switched, they act like the USB connector has just been plugged in or unplugged so it can take two or three seconds before the just-connected computer can reset it's USB ports. Most of the reviews of other products indicate they do the same thing.
The control switch does not have an indicator of which computer is connected and it is the easiest item to be placed where you can see and use it. You may well have to place the switch box, which does have an indicator, someplace under your desk where you can't see it.
