Great upgrade
Pros: Lots of memory
Cons: None yet
Overall Review: I bought an old Macbook Pro from mid-2010 that came with 4GB RAM. It was already slow but the upgrade to El Capitan made it worse. I put this RAM in it and it moves along much faster now (I got an SSD as well though) and I don't have to worry about leaving lots of stuff open or multiple users logged in. Been running for almost a month now and no issues. Definitely worth the money. BTW if you are looking to upgrade your old MBP to 16 GB RAM check and make sure your firmware has been updated. El Capitan updated my device FW as well so I had no issues, but some MBP's can't support 16GB RAM, luckily mine could (even though Apple's site says it only supports 8 GB). Just do some research to get a good idea first.
Decent, but basic
Pros: - Low price - True 1080p - Good night performance
Cons: - Does not do 60 fps as it claims, maybe 40 fps and the supposed 720p looks terrible. - Is not 140 degree wide, more like 115 degree. - Becomes unreliable if you change settings in the camera
Overall Review: My third follow-up, and final unless it gets worse or dies completely. The camera works fine if you leave it in default settings. I found even trying the screen saver function, which is supposed to just turn off the screen was causing the camera not to record much. In fact it recorded less often than when it did. I've had to reset the camera to factory defaults a few times because even turning the setting back to off, still doesn't fix it. I haven't looked for a firmware update but I will, although I doubt there is one. I'll report back if there is. Anyway for $60, it's a small price to pay for a little insurance. Dash cams review sites recommend a Transcend brand memory card, because some others don't work with this camera. I specifically got this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA24G0P60027 which has worked fine.
Needs some refinement, some stuff doesn't work, but phone does.
Pros: Phone calls work and sound good. Pretty loud speaker.
Cons: I could never get my microSD card to fit, one of the SIM card trays seems to be blocking access. I tried and tried and just couldn't get it to fit so I tried lifting some of the metal frame from the microSD card tray; but that didn't work either. I even entirely removed the metal frame and placed the card on top of the contacts. Still doesn't work even when applying pressure. Maybe the card reader just doesn't work? I couldn't get the phone to recognize my contacts of my Mint Mobile SIM card. They show up just fine on other devices, just not on this phone. Maybe there are too many? I read somewhere 200 is the max, and unfortunately I have more than that. If you receive any text messages other than a simple text message, you get a jumble of text which appears to be a internet address; but it doesn't do anything and you can't do anything with it and there is no picture. Speaking of texting, there is no T9 predictive translation capability, so you have to do really old school ABC which is frustrating to say the least. I'd be ok with T9 for basic texts but without it, I pretty much refuse to text on this device. I couldn't get the media player to work with my MP3 files, but again that may have been because the SD card reader doesn't work. And finally, the display portion of the clamshell isn't on straight. When folded it is fine, but when I open up the screen it is angled slightly to the right, so it doesn't look straight. It doesn't affect functionality, but it just bothers me.
Overall Review: I was looking forward to going back to a basic phone... no apps, web browsing, other unnecessary distractions. Unfortunately there are some problems with the device. In the end I wish I hadn't got this phone; but I broke the SD card tray so I can't return it. The phone does work, and if that is all you're going to do with it then it will work fine. It had no issues with that. I just wish what I paid for would work.
A big step forward for enjoying video games
Pros: - Well packaged. - Decent price for what you get. I got it at $350 which I feel was an awesome deal. At $400 its still a good deal. - Headset is pretty comfortable - Lenses are pretty good, I feel clearer than the Vive. - Tracking is instantaneous and a high sampling rate, feels smooth and natural. - Sufficient field of view - Touch controllers work well, feel solid and well made, and are comfortable.
Cons: - Low resolution... yeah, if you focus on it it'll bother you. But once you get involved in the VR world you kind of forget about it. Sure it would be nice to have more pixels but at this price it's worth it. - Foam facial interface is a little cheap, it gets hot and itchy after a couple hours of playing. - Tracking sensors are good, when they can see your controllers... You really need three sensors, as sometimes when your back is to the sensors tracking is poor or lost. You cannot set the sensors at opposite ends, facing each other, the Oculus software won't let you. So you need three sensors if you are going to be standing up and/or moving around. If you are sitting, will be just fine with two. - Setup of the sensors is a bit of a pain until you do it the way they want them setup. I tried doing what I thought would work better, but it wouldn't take.
Overall Review: I've been watching VR headsets for over a year, and $800 was just too much for such low resolution... but at $350 (what I got it for) and even $400 it is a great deal. I am very happy I bought it, i've had loads of fun with it in the 10 or so hours i've used it. If I were to compare this to the Vive, I think the Oculus headset is more comfortable and the lenses are more clear, but the tracking sensors for the Vive are better and the setup much more flexible. You really need three Oculus sensors if you want to stand and/or do room scale. The Vive controllers are alright, but I think the Oculus are a bit more comfortable. I think things will be better once we can track actual hands and fingers, honestly. The Vive right now is still $600, so even the Oculus at $400, even $460 with three sensors is a better deal than the Vive in my opinion. Now if they were both the same price, then i'd get the Vive as I like the tracking much better. All in all VR is awesome. The Oculus is awesome. The Vive is awesome. I can't wait for the future where we can move to higher res displays and have the graphics power to handle it. Until then this is a great start. I will add that I have a below minimum spec graphics card, I only have a GTX 780 but I haven't had any problems in your average VR titles. I've played VTOL VR, Hotdogs Horseshoes and Handgrenades, and Onward and it all runs nice and smooth. I haven' tried more graphic intensive games like DCS flight sims, Doom VFR, Fallout 4 VR, or Project Cars 2 yet, but I imagine they won't run all that great as they don't run great on my 1080p monitor. I'll update my review in the coming months as I get into VR more...
Great value
Pros: Pretty quick and a good price.
Cons: Haven't seen any yet... guess you could say the casing feels a bit cheap.
Overall Review: Got two of the 120 GB drives, one for my Macbook Pro mid-2010 and one for my OS drive on my gaming machine. Only been using a couple days but the Mac's boot time went from 47 seconds down to 23. Hard to say for my gaming machine because I went from Windows 10 on a WD Raptor 10K RPM back to Windows 7 on this SSD. Boot times feel about the same but 7 takes longer to load up. I may end up putting 10 back on but I prefer the interface in 7 and as far as i'm aware 7 is still good for gaming. I checked and TRIM is enabled on both of my drives so hopefully these will last. I'll post back if I have any issues.
Great camera
Pros: Great video quality, wide viewing angle, excellent mounting system.
Cons: Takes 30 seconds to start recording after starting your engine! Annoying voice greeting that can't be turned off or turned down.
Overall Review: I have three of these cameras now, one in my car, my truck, and my wifes car. They are all working well and give me minimal problems. On occasion they will restart during a drive, but you sometimes get a voice warning saying the system is restarting. Other times it just restarts without your knowledge and then you realize it when it does its normal power on greeting. I do format the memory card every two weeks as recommended by the manufacture. My first camera bought two years ago is still going strong on the original memory card. Would recommend this camera to anyone looking for a quality camera.
Slow on shipping but product was good
No warning of slow shipping. Took them a week to ship it, then it took 3 weeks to make it from China to midwest US. Granted it is around Christmas but still quite a long haul. Otherwise the product is as described and arrived safely. Not sure how warranty service will go down should I need any for my purchase, I just hope i don't need it.
Good so far
Had purchased item for a few months when it failed. I emailed them for an RMA. They took care of it promptly and I have the replacement item and it is working. So far so good.
