PC builder of 30 years says 'Best COMPACT Case' for the $$

GAMEMAX Black Steel/Tempered Glass USB3.0/ Type C Micro ATX Tower Spark Computer Case w/ Dual Tempered Glass Side Panel
GAMEMAX Black Steel/Tempered Glass USB3.0/ Type C Micro ATX Tower Spark Computer Case w/ Dual Tempered Glass Side Panel

Pros: You may have seen this case elsewhere, but GameMax is the true OEM. And speaking as a system builder of 30 years, this is the most SUPERIOR compact case I have ever built out. In fact, in most situations, I prefer it over larger cases. For starters, I assure this case will handle mATX boards with large video cards. It supports excess locations for efficient cooling and fan placement. I wish to mention in my build out experience, the GameMax support team was superb. They stand behind all parts inside this quality case and respond to all inquiries. In this review, I added as many images for my build as allowed, (NewEgg only allows 5) showing key moments of my step-by-step process to complete the build. In one situation, I swapped out the screw kit for a larger thread, yet compatible series I had at home. I did NOT add those photos in this post. Unless you own an amazing screw collection, or plan to change motherboards each year as I do, then I advise using the screws that comes with the case. I also ran CPU temperature readings during long idle times or just after activity. Readings of 30 degrees C corresponds to 90 degrees F. This is considered ICE COLD. Components used in this build are mostly best in class, with the exception of the tower cooler, made by ID Cooling. Yet that particular model gave amazing results. When using my images as a builder guide, please note some images are shot at angles to suggest how to insert and mount the mainboard, or order cable management. When it comes to fan placement and cable management, the result came together in a fashion that looked clean and tight, concealing the crazy amount of wires. Take note that this build took 2 hours to get it exactly the way I wanted.. and with many attempted variations. Also learned I did NOT need more than 2 case fans.. NOR a rear expeller fan. My dual fan updraft strategy pulls air from the case, just to blow it out the top. This got superior CPU temps versus other fan placements. The finished product weight is light enough.. should you evacuate your home due to a storm or emergency, the case fits under your arm... or easily placed inside a protective plastic bin. Finally, if you buy a power supply that is partially modular, you will have even less wires to hide. Another note; I bought a $5 fan hub (made for 8 fans 3-pin with SATA power) and secured that to the hidden panel, to organize and run all the NON-ARGB fans.

Cons: I wish they made the case to come with the larger non-metric screws. These have larger hex heads and were the only PC case standard for nearly 20 years.

Overall Review: This is my favorite case in the world. However, if you must have a case with USB ports on the top of the case, you might find this challenging without adding a USB Hub on your desktop.

Great OEM- flawed board layout

ECS H81H3-TI2 LGA 1150 Intel H81 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Thin Mini-ITX Intel Motherboard
ECS H81H3-TI2 LGA 1150 Intel H81 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Thin Mini-ITX Intel Motherboard

Pros: ECS is in the same performance league as Asus and Gigabyte. Their advantage is lower pricing. This board works as advertised

Cons: All thin mini ITX boards must accommodate their case limitations. On THIS board.. and NOT on previous thin mini ITX models, they moved the USB onboard connectors to a location that the InWin K2 case USB cable would not reach. Mind you, on other OEM boards and earlier ECS models, I do not have this issue. This oversight destroys functionality.. the fix is costly, nixing any savings of buying the board over competitors...and the parts to extend the wires must be ordered on another site, which takes another couple weeks to arrive. Finally,, some OCZ SSD hard drives can have Win 7 installation issues with ECS boards.

Overall Review: Before buying this board - enlarge the photos of the surface and locate all connectors. Determine if your case wires will reach the board connectors.

Love GSKILL been buying them since 2009

G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4 2800 (PC4 22400) Desktop Memory Model F4-2800C15D-8GVRB
G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4 2800 (PC4 22400) Desktop Memory Model F4-2800C15D-8GVRB

Pros: About as good as any Corsair module (who I consider the best of the best) though price vs price, one can buy GSkill for less money because it seems Gskill has more sales. Do not forget that in new motherboards, you must go into the bios and ENABLE the XMS express memory feature .. otherwise all your RAM will run at 2133. (What ever happened to auto-sense for RAM???)

Cons: None

Overall Review: Love GSKill

Great CPU and price cannot be beat

Intel Core i3 9th Gen - Core i3-9100F Coffee Lake 4-Core 3.6 GHz (4.2 GHz Turbo) LGA 1151 (300 Series) 65W BX80684i39100F Desktop Processor Without Graphics
Intel Core i3 9th Gen - Core i3-9100F Coffee Lake 4-Core 3.6 GHz (4.2 GHz Turbo) LGA 1151 (300 Series) 65W BX80684i39100F Desktop Processor Without Graphics

Pros: If you want power for less money and you KNOW you will be adding your own video cards, this CPU simply makes perfect sense over the i3-8100 or i3-9100 (non-F series)

Cons: None

Overall Review: Buy this if you don't NEED an on-board GPU.. but remember, the new Intel CPUs can run three video outputs when said board has said three outputs.

Avoid this board at ALL COSTS if you are doing a small form factor/ low profile build out

MSI ARSENAL GAMING B360M MORTAR LGA 1151 (300 Series) Intel B360 SATA 6Gb/s Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
MSI ARSENAL GAMING B360M MORTAR LGA 1151 (300 Series) Intel B360 SATA 6Gb/s Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Love MSI products and overall quality.. and been buying their boards since 1999. But the engineers who designed this board really blew it big time.

Cons: I bought this board sight unseen because the previous generation (8th) was designed properly. By properly, they placed the USB 3 internal port at the rear of the board and out of the way of the video cards. Then I had to build (7) machines for a high end client, who needed dual video cards within a low profile case (Inwin) and we needed 9th Gen boards. Turns out in these boards, when you try to insert the video card closest to the end of the board, the fat USB 3 cable protrudes so that the card cannot be seated flush. THIS IS PURE IGNORANCE and the engineers who laid out this board should be FIRED. I also tried several varieties of video cards, but the problem was the same. My solution was to buy a PCI-E 3.0 lwo profile USB add-in card, costing me another $ 15 and wasting slot space. Going forward on motherboards for 9th gen, I am now buying either Gigabyte or ASRock because their engineers think things through properly.

Overall Review: I love MSI... but no, avoid this board if you are building out a low profile, small form factor system that requires the use of the DUAL PCI-E slots.

Avoid this product

Vonnic A2809 VGA to HDMI Converter
Vonnic A2809 VGA to HDMI Converter

Pros: Zero

Cons: I am a pc tech of 20 years. I got this gizmo as a bonus for a purchase on Newegg. Mind you, I would NEVER had paid the asking price.. as similar and better performing adapters exist that are a fraction of the price of this one. The reason for the bad review is simple. I attached this to the HDMI cable coming from my mini pc, which uses a feed coming from my 4-Port KVM switch. Once all cables are connected and my pc is booted, the monitor does NOT engage. Of course, there is a blue indicator on the Vonnic that just blinks... confirming it does not work. I can see why this device was added as a bonus... as the OEM will probably be out of business if they keep making poor decisions in the quality of their products... crossing their fingers that it might work on some systems out there, rather than scrap the product and start over.
