Save and Access Data Faster With Dell Desktop Internal Hard Drives

Choose a hard drive with a speed of 7200 revolutions per minute (RPM) and above for faster writing and access to data. The range of Dell's internal hard drive speeds goes up to 15,000RPM. A Dell SATA hard drive has transfer speeds of up to 6Gbps. For smaller systems, go for a Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) hard drive to maximize speed. These drives operate at up to 12Gbps. Select a cache (buffer) of at least 16MB for speedy information retrieval. The cache is a temporary storage area for data that the hard drive is currently reading and writing, and its value is directly proportional to the expected overall speed and performance of the hard drive. When paired with enough RAM and a strong CPU, an efficient Dell hard drive ensures improved system responsiveness.

Dell Desktop Internal Hard Drives Increase the Storage Capacity of Older Computers

A Dell SATA hard drive provides up to 16TB of storage, whether your large files have to do with games or raw multimedia. Larger storage capacity and speedy data retrieval times are also crucial for running resource-intensive software, such as those intended for design. Upgrade an older computer's internal storage capacity with an Integrated Drive Electronics (IDE) hard drive, also known as a Parallel Advanced Technological Attachment (PATA) drive. Choose a Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) connection for smaller form factors. Connect a portable external hard drive to increase storage and securely transfer data between internal drives in separate systems. Use desktop external hard drives for a more permanent setup.

Keep Your Server Running With a Dell Enterprise Hard Drive

A Dell server hard disk, also referred to as an enterprise hard drive, protects against data loss. These hard drives run at high speeds of between 10,000 and 15,000RPM to facilitate quick creation, retrieval and deletion of data. The difference between the regular consumer desktop or laptop internal hard drives and those intended for use in servers is that the latter are built with a redundant array of individual disks (RAID) configuration in mind. This construction includes making the drives hot-swappable so you can replace a failing primary drive without needing to power down your server. They are also made to handle significantly larger workloads for more extended periods, regulate airflow and cool the chassis. They are fitted with the ability to use onboard sensors to detect and correct vibrations.
