I have a 4gb hp touchsmart 520 - spec says 200 pin. This is 204 pin. Is this compatible?

Stay with the system specs of DDR3 SO-DIMMs (200-pin) sockets. Get PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066) or PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333) also make sure the memory is Non-ECC memory, unbuffered per HP website.

Sorry, can't help.  These items were installed in a Dell E6410, and work fine.

I have heard that one has to check the spec carefully when putting in Macbooks - there may be subtle differences.

IT dept at work offered me this as it's a spare. Wanted to know if it's worthwhile bringing it home to try and fit into my 15" Macbook Pro currently running 4gb. Checked a few forums with mixed answers, anyone had any luck with this? Thanks in advance.

For a PC you would need to check both your processor (chip set), for maximum ram supported, and you need to be running 64 bit Windows. Your best bet is to check on Crucial's web site. Without knowing what version of Macbook Pro and what version of operating system it is impossible to know.

Yes it should, works fine with my Lenovo. Don't get 8 gigs unless your running a 64 bit OS, 32 bit only support up to 3 gigs so it would be a waste of money.

yes it will work, I looked up your system on the HP site. you have 4gb now yes? it should be 1 stick of 4gig in it now, if you want you can just buy 1 more 4 gig stick to add to the one you have now, or as some suggest that it is best to use matching sticks of memory. I have never had a problem with mixing memory sticks of different brands.

Go to w w w .crucial. com/ maximum pc and run the memory tool.  If it comes back telling you you can run DDR 1600, then you should be good to go.  Otherwise, look up the qualified vendor list of memory for that laptop on Toshiba's website.

It should clock down without problem; your default ram is 10600.  Your laptop already comes with 6 GB Ram, why not upgrade it to a SSD instead?
