Pros:
very fast & handles lots of drives & does 12gb/s sas drives.
you couple this with a few 6TB 12gb/s SAS drives and the speed will blow your mind and much better than SSD's. The intel raid web console allows multiple arrays and allows you to change drives in the array and the type of array. Do not buy if you cannot afford the 12gb/s sas drives.
Cons: very expensive. Also you have to pay a lot of attention to the harness you purchase and Newegg may not have it and you will have to buy elsewhere. Performance negates the high cost. You also need to buy the battery kit and I do not think Newegg stocks it.
Other Thoughts: I run two of these babies each with the battery kit. Performance is through the roof with say 4 ssd's in raid 0 or say the real use being several 6tb sas 12 gb/s enterprise drives in raid 0 or raid 5 and you can switch the raid config back and forth or try another like Raid 6. It is nice to have a C: drive of 24 TB! If you not need lots of space do not buy. Note that the top score for hard drive bench test on the Passmark web site is done with RS3DC080 and the 12 gb/s enterprise hard drives .

Pros: The speed at which this thing can access data is absolutely insane. I've got this connected through an RES3FV288 SAS expander to WD 12TB Gold SATA drives, and in a RAID6 it reads and writes at over 700 MB/s. Amazing considering RAID6 is usually slow, but not with this!
Cons: The cooling solution Intel put on this card is severely inadequate. I initially had it connected normally as it comes in an ATX case, but the chip temperatures exceeded 100C, obviously not acceptable. The manual says it needs 200 LFPM of airflow... ok apparently 3x 140mm case intake fans isn't good enough for that. I ultimately purchased a Noctua 40mm cooling fan (perfect size) and mounted it on the heatsink of this card and the expander, which brought the temps to around 55C. I was very impressed with how quiet the Noctua 40mm fan is at 4500 RPM, and barely makes a noise. Intel should have designed it with active cooling from the start.
Other Thoughts: I use this with the AXXRMFBU4 backup unit to unleash the full potential of the card, and I am not disappointed. except for the initial heat issues, the card is a winner.
