YOUR item# is different than mine so your vendor could also be different. Yes I did receive a charger, but also was suppose to get a dvd rw instead received a dvd rom. I also was suppose too get 4 gb of ram instead got 8 gb,which is a good trade off. The laptop is like new but as I said your item# is different.

why does this machine come with Windows 10? When the T420 was new/current, Windows 7 was the latest OS.

I have no idea, the one I ordered back in 2016 came installed with win7 as advertised. It could be part of the refurbishing or the models with win7 installed became sold out (phased out) and were replaced with win10.

Would I be able to replace the HDD with a standard 2.5" SSD?

Yes, I have.  You can remove the dvd drive, and by an adaptor (I paid $10) to add a second hdd.  I used that to clone my regular hard drive to my new ssd with the software most ssd manufacturers provide.  Then I put the ssd in place of the hdd, there is an adapter to raise it in the ssd box if needed.  I kept my old drive as the back up in case the ssd failed

How good of a gaming laptop would this be? for example WoW.

In this specific configuration, it would work, but I wouldn't expect any miraculous results.  You'd need to keep all the graphic settings and "special effects" to a minimum.  It's also painfully slow to boot and to launch just about everything (my perception of this may be heavily biased due to my own rig, which is significantly more powerful).

But it'd get the job done, I think.

Whatever you do, do NOT install Windows 10 on it.  I made the mistake of doing that, and it slowed to a snail's pace, and I eventually rolled it back because it took literally eight minutes to perform a "fast user switch" because two users who were both already logged in.

can I upgrade to windows 10 with this laptop?

I did, and I really don't like how it performs.  I'm not sure if it's the fact that it's an i5 CPU, or the fact that it's only running 4GB, or the fact that the OS is installed on an HDD instead of an SSD, or if Windows 10 is just that bad right now, but it takes FOREVER to boot, switch user accounts, and wake up from hibernation.  I may be spoiled, though, since my desktop PC is running 16GB and the OS is on an SSD!

I'm actually planning on nuking and paving it with Windows 7 again, because it worked like a dream with that installed.

So I'm having an issue where the right side of my space bar isn't working well, and it's driving me nuts. Anyone know how to fix it?

Sure, you'd just need to reformat with the x32 version of Windows 7, since it comes with x64 version comes pre-installed.
