Pros: Worked ok while it worked.
Cons: Died almost exactly 3 years after installed - dropped drives while PC was on, then would only show drives in BIOS / show as bootable after PC was powered off for 15-20 mins before booting. Had similar quality issues w/ a cheaper brand, expected more from this as it was not even used as a raid card.
Pros: Low profile and simple. Historically a good brand.
Cons: I put a pair of these cards in my new build and had a lot of system instability. I've used HighPoint controller cards for several builds without issue. Support has changed in ten years. No help whatsoever other than to blame everything but their product. Anyway, I replaced them with another brand and all is well. I probably won't buy their products again after dealing with their tech support this time around.
Other Thoughts: Despite all of the trouble I would recommend a single card because a single card works flawlessly. But I'll leave it at that
Pros: At this point I have nothing good to say.
Cons: Raid management software will not install. contacted manufacture and got a canned answer with link to software. Installed and uninstalled multiple time with same Error "localhost7204" unable to connect. followed all recommendations and no success. went to customer support and same old s$#t. Nothing should be this difficult to make work. No out of the box software. I would not recommend this product, and I have owned other Highpoint controller cards.
Pros: Appears to work fine at first
Cons: Drops hard drives and can cause data corruption - resync and scrub of 8TB RAID array (after moving drives off this controller) not fun.
Other Thoughts:
Any heavy load on this controller - mostly experienced when moving large amounts of data / multiple simultaneous IO streams will cause 1 drive to be dropped, followed by controller failure. Appears to reset after reboot, but is of no consolation when having to resync a 8TB array.
Searched for firmware updates using this chipset and I found at least 1 manufacturer using this chip on their motherboard, that every successive firmware version eliminated more and more features - seemingly cutting back performance until the chip can handle the task. Trim support was gone and then limiting the card to 3Gb/s in firmware. Better than data corruption.
When I bought this controller it sat on my shelf for a while, so I believe I'm beyond any return period, but it has been removed from the machine. Same drives back on the motherboard (I got this as trying to run 5 drives to a board with 4 internal connectors) work without issue.
Pros: No real pros...
Cons:
Card ultimately failed under fedora 22. Was looking for just a JBOD solution as my motherboard only had 6 total sata slots. I wasn't even looking for massive speed but I did want reliability. I also was only going to use software raid under linux via mdadm. So it did setup and run for about 2 days. After that the controller would random drop disks and eventually wouldn't even start under linux.
It's a shame because it did work for a bit as expected but ultimately failed miserably.
Other Thoughts: I'm honestly not sure what controller to buy as most of the sub 100 SATA controllers use the same lame Marvell chipset. Not looking for hardware raid really, just JBOD.. who knew how hard this would be.
Pros: Relatively low price for RAID card
Cons: Set-up instructions not super helpful
Other Thoughts:
My previous review may have been a bit harsh; I finally got it set-up. The only real info contained in the instructions is that you hit CTRL+M to get into the RAID BIOS; that is where I had to configure it. The utility the instructions told me to use was not on the CD; The one that was didn't work. Downloaded the utility in the instructions, still didn't work.
I think 3 stars is fair given that the instructions might as well have said 'hit CTRL+M and figure it out yourself'
Pros:
Optional low-profile. Utilizing 6.0 Gb . Easy integration into my Intel Z 97
reliability of backup quality and many more rate benefits
Cons: Intel rapid storage (I 7 ) did have some difficulty on first initialization of raid. After installing an updated driver the system performed adequately.
Other Thoughts: I'm thinking about using a smaller form factor and utilizing this card with a server motherboard to make an external storage server for my home office.

Pros: Works perfectly for me with any recent Linux kernels.
Cons: This is NOT what I'd call a "RAID" adapter, since it's software RAID!!! I would NEVER use this card in place of a true hardware RAID controller! If you need true hardware RAID, spend the extra $$$ and get a higher-end board!!!
Other Thoughts: This board performs very well for SATA III JBOD use. I have several installed with various 1+ TB drives and use Linux kernel-based MD RAID. I've never had any problems at all--even with hot swap. I'm guessing users who have had problems may have Motherboard compatibility issues or something else going on....I'm buying more of these cards right now---that's why I looked at the reviews!
